Chapter Four
Don didn’t know how Sam did it. But somehow, Sam had trained his
little bastard of a dog to attack Don at command. Normally, Dean was a sweet
and affectionate puppy, but once Sam said the word ‘dickwad,’
it suddenly became, what Sam had fondly termed as ‘rambo
Dean.’ And even though Sam seemed to think it was terribly funny, Don was not
amused. It irritated him to no end that every time Don tried to enter the cage
to spend some time with the boy, the dog would begin yipping away, trying to
bite Don if he came within centimetres of its master. It had gotten so bad that
Don had threatened to take the mongrel away if Sam couldn’t control it. But
deep down, Don knew it to be an empty threat that he would never act on. After
all, considering how ferociously Sam had defended it, taking the pup away would
ultimately do more harm than good.
“How’d you manage to get the dog to do that?” Don had asked one
night, when Sam was in a good enough mood to consent to Don’s presence.
“I asked it to.”
“You asked the dog to bite
me? And the dog did it?” Don’s voice had been dripped in a sarcasm more
commonly associated with Sam’s manner of speaking.
“Yeah. You see,
this demon called Curupira asked me to look after her
animals and in return gave me the power to speak with them. And I travel the
land with my trusty tiger called Ruh, two rodents
called Kodo and Podo and a
hawk called Sharak. And my best friends are called
Tao and Arina and my worst enemies are Zad and Voden.” (*A/N Beastmaster reference)
It was obvious that Sam was trying to inflame Don, but it never
ceased to amaze him how the boy could sprout such arrant nonsense with such a
straight face on. But Don was proud of himself for not having risen to Sam’s
bait, this time silently counting to twenty before he dared to utter another
word.
Don had known ever since the ‘chocolate incident’ that he had
overestimated things, that it would not be as easy as he had previously
anticipated. At first, Don had rationalised that everybody wanted to be loved.
So Sam would have been no different. In fact, Don had believed that Sam would
want love more than anything after being on his own for so long. And for that,
Sam would accept a lot. But considering how easily Sam had managed to turn
Don’s good intentions around, to make Don seem like the bad guy when he was
really only trying to help the boy, it was time for a new tack. Don would start
over with Sam, try to mitigate the damage he’d already
caused. Now if only Sam would let Don close enough to do that…

“Want some breakfast?”
Sam and Dean looked up from their game, watching
wearily as Don entered the cage, balancing a tray of bacon, sausage, eggs and a
bowl of assorted fruits.
“Stay,” Sam told the dog sternly when it looked
ready to charge at the source of the wonderful aromas.
The dog whined expectantly but otherwise obeyed.
With a quick scratch behind the ears, Sam stood and helped Don carry the tray
back to the table.
“I thought that maybe we could start over,” Don
said matter-of-factly as they both sat down, piling Sam’s plate with bacon and
eggs for him before passing it to him.
“Did you now?” Sam deadpanned as he fed Dean
some bacon from his plate, smiling indulgently as the dog wolfed down the bacon
and thumped its tail on the ground.
Don declined to answer, instead spearing a
sausage with his fork and raising it to his mouth, licking it around the tip
and then the length several times before sliding in and out of his mouth,
sucking noisily. Don repeated the motion several times, his free hand sliding
down his own chest to lightly cup his bulge.
“I love these marinated sausages. The best part
is sucking the sauce, the flavour… hmmmmm!”
Don opened his eyes, noting with amusement that
Sam’s face now resembled a ripe tomato as he squirmed uncomfortably in his
chair.
“Something the matter?” Don asked innocently.
Sam rose from the couch haughtily, taking a few
steps backwards before tripping over his own feet.
Well,
well. Don 1, Sam 0 Don thought
with satisfaction. The boy with the heart
of ice isn’t so immune to me after
all.
He dropped his sausage back on the plate, moving
towards Sam and straddling him. “You are beautiful,” Don declared before
cupping Sam’s face and kissing him gently on the lips.
Sam made a disgusted noise, placing his hands on
Don’s chest as he tried to push Don away from him. Don caught Sam’s hands,
pulling Sam closer until they were forehead to forehead, noses bumping. “I’ve
been an ass. I admit it. But give me a chance. Start over?”
“Listen you dickw-”
Before Sam could finish that word, Don smashed
his lips against Sam’s, muffling the remainder of the word.
“I’m sorry,”
Don said against Sam’s lips. “Please?”
Don noted with satisfaction as the boy’s
breathing increased and he was sure that if he placed his hand over the boy’s
chest, he would feel Sam’s heart racing. This
was what he was good at – direct and straight to the point seduction. No
more wishy washy, light hearted, ‘give me a hug’ wooing. And considering the
trembling in Sam’s hands, Don could tell that he had finally found the boy’s
Achilles Heel.
Sam’s animosity and sarcasm was a smokescreen,
to keep people away from him. But because that front had worked so well, nobody
knew that with a little persistence and patience, that screen could be pushed
aside. Don had thought that showing
the boy the tenderness and love that he had been lacking for so long would be
the best way to break down those emotional barriers.
It wasn’t often that Don was proven wrong. But
he was man enough to admit it. And now his new tactic was working perfectly. A
little physical closeness here and sexual innuendo there, and the boy was instantly uncomfortable, unable to maintain or hide
behind his stoic mask. In Don’s opinion, it would make the chase all the more
enjoyable. He would conquer both Sam’s fear (and Don was certain that Sam was
afraid, albeit hiding it very well) and his body, playing it like a finely tuned
instrument as he brought them to pleasure and beyond. It was a goal worth
waiting for.
“Let’s be civil?” Don kept his voice soft, as if
Sam had the power to choose, to halt their game then and there when in reality
he was merely the puppet to Don’s puppet master.
Sam arched an eyebrow. “Civil?” he drawled,
trying and failing to achieve his normal, highly sarcastic tone. “That’s a new
one.”
Don contained his smirk. “Yes, civil. So I’m
going to insist you refrain from provoking me. I want you to be pleasant. And in return, I will-”
“You want me to be pleasant? You, who kidnapped
me, kept me here? On the pretext of helping me?” Sam said incredulously, trying unsuccessfully
to back away from the intense gaze looking upon him.
“I saw how beautiful you were, but you… You have no idea, no clue of your own beauty. And that just made me want you
more. I just want to get to know you. Show you that I’m a good guy. What more
can I do to convince you?”
“Die,” Sam replied without hesitation.
“Excuse me?”
“You can prove that you
love me by dying. Of course, if you did that, I wouldn’t be able to reciprocate
that love, but hey, unrequited love is still love.”
Sam took advantage of Don’s surprise, pushing the older man off him
and stooping quickly to pick up the dog before retreating into the bathroom
again, slamming the door shut.
“Sure, go hide in the bathroom again!” Don yelled after Sam, feeling
annoyed as he picked himself up from the floor.
“I will!” Sam retorted, his voice muffled by the wooden door in between
them.
Damn. Don 1, Sam 1.
