Chapter Four
Fights A clay figure flew across the cabin and smashed into the wall just narrowly missing Spock’s head. Spock didn’t even flinch and his face remained expressionless with his hands clasped behind his back. “I warned you already about attempting to touch me!” She roared picking up another object ready to hurl it through the air. “What sort of fool has no sense of his self preservation?” She yelled. Spock was patient, and let her rant for another moment or two before he suddenly lunged out without warning and grabbed her arms with more speed and accuracy then she could anticipate to block or defend herself against. Even though she was stronger than any human male, she was not stronger then a Vulcan and certainly not stronger then Spock. They struggled for a moment before Spock picked her up by her arms slamming her hard against the wall and pinning her there. The young woman was angry, and wanted more than anything to rip his eyes out of his face it seemed. Another few moments passed as he was letting her fight and wear herself down before Spock leaned all his weight against her, pushing her against her sides to make sure they were properly pinned as well freeing one of his hands. Spock had no choice but to try and push his way into her mind and find out what this was, what was going on and try to sort it out. Find his Yanira and bring her back to him. He started to press his fingertips against her face; however she jerked her head away struggling as hard as she could to get his hands off of her. Unable to keep a firm hold on her this way, he began to lean away from her just a little and she took the opportunity to use her feet to kick herself from the wall causing them to both fall to the ground. Her hands instantly went for his face but he caught her wrists, and at once he rolled them over onto her back sitting on her stomach. He quickly pulled her arms down to her sides again and pinned her hands under his knees freeing both of his own this time as Spock leaned down over her. Then, he pressed his fingertips against her face and dove into her mind with such force; she gasped closing her eyes unable to keep him out. Spock kept his grip tight against her cheek and slowly as she stopped her struggling and trashing about, the room became silent and fell away. At last, the two Vulcan hybrids started to breathe together, their heartbeats starting to beat in unison, as their minds became one. The Vulcan found himself opening his eyes to find that he was someplace he had never been before. It looked like a very large industrial lab of some sort. Spock realized he was lying down and sat up before standing from the table that he had been on. When he turned he found that it had been Yanira that had been and was still lying there. Her eyes were open, but she did not make a single move or sound. Her hands and feet were strapped tight to the table; another strap was pulled tight across her chest, and one more across her neck to hold her in place. The amount of restraints that were used seemed somewhat extreme but also seemed to indicate that her captors were not ignorant to her capabilities. He stood back and waited, quietly watching. It wasn’t long before several individuals surrounded her and began to speak; “Nothing as affected her. She seems to show no fear, hides her pain as though it does not exist, and barely acknowledges us when we speak to her.” One said. “It is true. Not that we expected anything less from a Vulcan, but as we have established she is not full-blooded Vulcan. However, even though she is half human she has shown remarkable control and pain tolerance. Through the extraction procedure especially since she was kept awake for the entire surgery. Spock felt his own stomach turn when he heard this. What she had had to witness and endure. His eyes turned back to the young woman lying absolutely motionless on the table. He recognized that look in her eyes. She was in shock, only her subconscious was engaged to record this memory. “There are a number of other experiments and tests we wish to run. If she is trained so well in the Vulcan mind set despite her heritage, perhaps we should attempt mind alterations to see how she’ll respond. Start immediately, and keep everything well documented.” The men agreed and seemed to separate to begin their work. Suddenly, Spock found himself in her next memory that had been locked away. She was back in the liquid filled tank that she had been found in. It seemed as though scientists or new students were taking a tour, and she was on display as an exhibit. “This is our prize and currant project as she is our greatest discovery and achievement. You are very fortunate to be with us today. This is a young female Vulcan/Human hybrid. She is very rare specimen being the only one of her kind in existence because of strict Vulcan law regarding out worlders and cross breeding. She rare that her type was thought to be non-existent due to the strict exclusion laws and traditions of Vulcan prohibiting outsiders from entering their society at all. However, we were fortunate to find that both she and her mate are of the same hybrid structure. Both remarkable and unique in every way.” The one conducting the tour explained. “Has she had any offspring? “ Was one of the questions asked that was imprinted on her memory, he couldn’t hear the others. “Yes actually, two who did not survive testing, and their remains are else ware in another facility for further research and documentation.” Then the group left, walking away and on to the next exhibit. Spock stood there alone in her memory, looking up at her as she floated almost lifelessly in the chamber. How could anyone be so cruel as to treat her like a thing, instead of an intelligent and beautiful being? Treated as though she was nothing but someone’s science project. Even as a scientist himself, he found the entire situation disgusting and morally reprehensible. It was a perversion of science, and cruel in unspeakable ways. Spock decided to go back further in her memories, and open doors that seemed to have been closed and locked away from her. Their small human wedding ceremony on the Enterprise, the ceremonies she had participated in on Vulcan, the happy life that she had found living with his parents, recalling her name and the knowledge that she was half human, half Vulcan like he was. It was all he was able to accomplish before the mind link started to break. Within an instant they were back in his quarters, his fingers still pressed against her face. She was breathing erratically, and when her eyes opened there was a pained look in them. It was all flooding back in at one time. He removed his hand from her face and carefully released her as Yanira rolled to her side gasping for air. Spock was trying to catch his breath as well. It had taken a lot of energy, and was very hard on them both. Regaining his composure, he looked down at the gasping girl who was clutching her head in pain and distress; it was no doubt difficult to try and absorb all of this information at once. Spock kneeled beside her, and took her shoulders helping her to straighten up so that she could perhaps breathe easier. Yanira placed her hands on the floor and pushed herself up, as her breath slowly returned to normal. Finally, her eyes turned towards him looking into his. “Yanira?” He asked, wondering if the mind meld had any positive affect as to her true identity. Her eyes starred at him, as big as orbs. “Oh . . . Spock.” She said as her eyes closed and sorrow began to overtake her. With the memory of what had happened and the loss of their son fresh in her mind her sadness was definitely warranted. Spock pulled her against him holding her tight and letting her cry. If nothing else, she was finally allowed to express and experience the grief for their loss. Thank God he had still been able to reach her. Precautions “Spock, don’t you think this is a little extreme? It would be just as easy to confine her to quarters and place guards on the door.” Captain Kirk said looking at his first in command. “And who the hell is, Headra? Did she expand on that at all? “No, Jim.” Spock said. “Until her emotions are once again under her control, I believe this is the best way to keep both her and the crew safe, Captain. She understands and has willingly submitted to incarceration. No force or demand was necessary.” He explained. “It’s damn heartless of you, Spock. After all she’s been through; you’re going to put her through even more.” Bones said disagreeing but not interfering. “You yourself have born witness to her strength doctor. While she grieves and struggles to regain her memories and person that she had been before she is not in any sort of control of her emotions or actions.” He warned, “She will be ‘an unknown number’ to use your words.” Kirk quietly listened to all his first officer had to say, before he started to pace slightly considering the situation. It seemed with this particular young woman it was never an easy choice to make. “Of course you intend to continue your ongoing session with her until her serve grieving has passed.” “Without question.” Spock answered. “Doctor McCoy, you also intend to continue your monitoring of the young woman’s health? With regular examinations and monitoring of her condition?” Kirk asked. “Yes. The physical torment of what Spock described might have residual effects. I don’t know what else they might have done to her that she can’t recall, Jim. I’d rather not have something sneak up on us.” Bones said. “Well, if no one objects to her confinement in the brig including Yanira, then I see no reason not to keep her there if you think that’s what is best, Spock. At least until we get some actual criminals, then I would rather not have an innocent civilian sharing such company.” Kirk decided. “Agreed.” Spock responded. Session 4 Spock and Yanira kneeled across from each other looking into one another's eyes. “You have been diligent in your meditations, have you discovered any new memories Yanira?” He asked. “More than I ever wished to. However, I doubt there is more to remember. From what I have been able to recall I do not wish to remember any more.” It was clear that she didn’t want him to aid in opening any more locked doors in her mind. “Then perhaps I could ask you questions directly instead of touching your mind.” He suggested. Yanira nodded. “Who is Headra?” He asked simply wanting to know if she knew where the personality she was brought on board with came from. Yanira was quiet for a moment, before she answered. “It was my mother’s name.” She said digging into her memory, perhaps as far back as she could go, “She was Vulcan, proud and strong. I remember very little of her.” She whispered trying to remember more. “I remember her voice, how she held herself when she walked.” It seemed she didn’t have any direct memory to draw from, just small bits and pieces. Spock wasn’t entirely sure what to make of this new information. When she regained consciousness as Headra, she had plenty of negative things to say about a half human, half Vulcan hybrid. How could those words be something her mother would have said? Spock silently decided he needed to take a look into her records and past when he had the opportunity. For now, he decided it would be best to move on. “Your training in the Celass Colony. Why were you taught such extensive combat techniques? They seem inconsistent and unnecessary to your primary function.” He inquired. “Escorts are also to serve as body guards to our masters. Many of the men who bought our contracts were often wealthy or of great importance or high-ranking individuals. There would be no one closer to them, especially in their most vulnerable states. They would need to be protected when in their most intimate moments. Sometimes our contracts were simply purchased for our bodyguard qualities, even by women.” She explained. “Fascinating,” He said, “When you told me that you were taught to provide for your masters every need, I did not realize how far those services extended.” He arched a brow, “Fascinating.” He repeated. After a moment, Spock returned his attentions to Yanira, “You have made remarkable progress under the circumstances. Do you believe you have regained control and are able to return to my quarters?” He questioned. “No.” She answered turning her eyes downward. Spock arched his brow again when he heard her answer. “Why?” He asked. “I seem to be able to control my emotions, in almost any situation, with any memory except one.” She said unable to lift her eyes to look at him. He didn’t exactly need it to be spelled out. It was something that had been on his mind as well. “The loss of our children.” He stated. When he did a powerful sense of anguish flooded both of them so much so that they felt it equally, sharing in their loss together for the first time. Spock pulled her closer and the two Vulcan’s rested their foreheads together. Using what power they had to ease each other’s pain. Sick Bay Blues Yanira sat at the computer in the sickbay office and sighed as she entered yet another log entry. McCoy heard her and walked over, “Slow going is it?” He asked with a smile. “Doctor McCoy,” She began turning towards him away from the computer. “It has been nearly 9 hours since I began to write down everything I could remember about my abduction. How much more information could you need? I have left out no detail even colors, scents and shapes that I can recall.” “Don’t give up.” He said, “I know it’s a lot of work, and working as quickly as you and Spock do, I have a feeling we’ll have a full database on the whole incident. Maybe even two.” He said with a smile. “The more you can remember, the greater the chance we can keep this from happening to someone else.” “But it has happened to me twice now, Doctor McCoy. I have been taken against my will twice, and my . . .” She paused a moment closing her eyes, “And my children taken from me.” She opened her eyes looking up at him. “And these tragedies are not mine alone.” Bones knew that, he knew that she and Spock had shared the loss, “What could be done to stop them now that could not be done before?” She asked. “For one thing, we have a great deal more information than we had from the first time you were taken thanks to the memories that you and Spock have been able to pull up. Evidence is showing that perhaps whoever took you the first time, didn’t take you the second. These monsters could have branches all over the universe, and as you can imagine, it is definitely not something that Star Fleet isn’t going to condone or let go running around abducting and torturing people. Especially since its one of their own officers that are being targeted.” Bones explained. Yanira sighed as she turned her attention back to the screen, digging deep trying to find anything she had left out of the rather detailed and extensive report. Bones half smiled and started to reach out to pat her shoulder, but thought better of it and pulled his hand back. As a doctor and a surgeon, he would need it to save lives. History Search While Yanira was in the sickbay recounting everything that she could down to the last molecule, Spock took the opportunity to look up her records. He had them all sent directly from Vulcan and the Celass colony into his possession and was now reading through it. The Vulcan Science officer rubbed his chin slightly resting his head against his hand reading on and on. Was there nothing that wasn’t a horror in Yanira’s life? How could a child have gone through such torment and still grown up as lovely and as sweet as she? It did not take long for him to decide it was better that she didn’t remember more about her so called ‘family’ and it was even better that neither parent was still living. Her mother was a Vulcan Priestess. With many of the same gifts that her daughter now possessed but Yanira was determined to suppress them and keep them hidden, rather than use them. Her mother was quite the opposite. She was very proud, and she was extremely vain. A fault that many Vulcan women suffered from, even though logic was what ruled their society. ‘Headra’ was a dignitary who traveled visiting different Vulcan colonies and that been established on a wide variety of planets throughout the known galaxy. Often taken as passenger on Star Ship cruisers and other Star Fleet transports for security instead of a Vulcan ship or convoy of her own. Yet there were times when Star Fleet transportation was not available, and other means of travel where arranged. Yanira’s father was a human civilian Captain on a freighter that delivered Dylithm crystals from mines to places where they would be purchased, once again mostly dealings with Starfleet. It was when this man and Headra crossed paths. Unfortunately, this was not exactly a beautiful love affair that one might imagine their parents encounter would consist of that would result in their creation. Instead, the Captain turned out to be a overbearing self important disgusting man completely devoid of all morals or a conscious, who hated the attitude that Headra carried with her person. He was a sexist, misogynistic, cretin who did not deserve the air he breathed. Even though Headra was able to sense feelings of others that she tended to ignore, and see into the future quite clearly, she did not have such visions until they were too far away from any kind of help to be had, and it was too late. When she was ‘delivered’ to the planet of the next colony that she had been traveling to, she had been severely beaten and raped. Not long after, it was discovered that she was with child, and being a priestess, it was forbidden to have such procedures that would consist of cutting into the body or any unnatural action done to her person. It was sacred temple, and even minor surgery could not desecrate her body by opening it unnaturally. She was forced to have the child, a daughter, Yanira. From the moment she was born her mother despised and loathed her. For various reasons most of all that she was the half human and her appearance only furthered the distaste, as she looked so human, the creature who had attacked and violated her. Both of her parents died before she turned four in human years. Her mother contracted an illness that would have been easily cured had she been able to let doctors do a simple surgery. Yet with her role as a priestess she quickly perished leaving Yanira alone without family. Her ‘father’ was declared a criminal when he knowingly sold tainted and stolen goods to Star Fleet, and his ship was destroyed in an attempt to flee his arrest. Spock frowned as he continued to read looking for reasons why Yanira hadn’t been cared for properly, being the daughter of a highly respected priestess. As he dug a bit further into the fragmented documents, he found that Headra denied Yanira as her daughter long before her death. Depriving Yanira of her mother’s titles and property resulting in her being sent to an orphanage as a simple unknown with no name and no family. He couldn’t read anymore. It was all . . . horribly distasteful and frustrating. Reading all of this he found Yanira to be more of an enigma then before. How could she turn out so well despite the horrid origins of her beginning? Serek had been somewhat disappointed with Spock when he was born; he was so human to his eyes. Yet as he grew Serek couldn’t hide from Amanda how proud of Spock he was. Even though he seemed to hide it from his son extremely well. Even in Spock’s beginning his parents did love each other and desired to be together, mated for life. And his father denied him nothing. Yanira was strong, beautiful, and intelligent. Yet her parents did not seem to be the most pleasant or the best individuals. Afflicted with selfishness, vanity, and only out for themselves in every way never thinking of anyone else. But here she was struggling to be better the best she could be for him. Not allowing her former life to dictate who she was now despite how it always seemed to lurk over her shoulder. Spock turned off the computer screen and sat there with his hands folded, lost in thought. He closed his eyes, pulling up the memories from her mind that they had discovered together when he was attempting to aid her recovery from her last ordeal. Transmissions from Home Yanira sat in front of a monitor and listened intently, as she looked at Serek’s image. “I am pleased that you were found unharmed.” He said, “I knew that if the Enterprise and its crew were sent to retrieve you, you would be found and returned to us in the briefest time.” She couldn’t help but feel a little happy and relieved to speak to her Father-In-Law who had been a source of guidance and knowledge. However she had to suppress the smile she felt inside so she wouldn’t disappoint him with showing emotion. “I am sorry for your loss. We all share in your pain, and grieve for him.” Serek expressed. “Thank you, Serek.” She said, “All I have been able to do is to give all help and information I can to Star Fleet so they can put a stop to this horrid travesty of abuse and destruction of sentient beings.” What she couldn’t hide, was the mixed feeling of anger and pain she felt with the subject. Instead of making an open display, she simply turned her eyes down not able to look at Serek. “Your anger is well placed Yanira and not unwarranted, but you must control it and not allow it to control you. The Vulcan council has demanded Star Fleet allow us to lead the investigation in this matter to stop this criminal activity. Murder of an unborn child of Vulcan, is not taken lightly.” He explained. She nodded again, and quickly stuffed any feelings she had back down so that she could continue this call. “Is your wife at home? May I speak with her?” Yanira asked. “Unfortunately she is not. She will be disappointed to have missed your communication.” He said. Yanira nodded again. “Would you like to speak with Spock? He is only in the next room.” She offered. “There is no need for me to speak with him; I know that you will pass on the report of what is happening.” He expressed. “Live long, and prosper my daughter.” Serek said giving her the Vulcan salute. Yanira returned it immediately. “We await your return.” Then the transmission ended and Serek’s image faded from the screen. Yanira felt disappointed that Serek had not wanted to speak to Spock. The only one who felt the loss of her son as deeply as she did was Spock, as it was his child. Yet the relationship between Serek and Spock remained strained. In truth, Spock wouldn’t even visit his parent’s home as often as he did now that Yanira lived with them. Before they were wed, it would be several years between visits or even communication. Even then it was usually his mother who contacted him. Spock had been asleep and Yanira thought it best not to wake him. He was having as much difficulty sleeping as she was since she had come aboard. The telepathic link that they shared now, made it very easy to slip into each other’s dreams. Sometimes it was pleasant, but other times it was an absolute nightmare. Standing from the computer, she slowly walked to the door looking in on Spock who was still asleep. She quietly watched him for a few minutes not being able to help but admire him. He really was a handsome man even if sometimes he frustrated and confused her. From the first day she arrived, he had begun to try and change her. Go against her training, and everything she had been raised to know and believe. He did offer her a better life, individuality, and a better way but it was difficult. As she gazed at her sleeping husband her heart sank. Two times she had been pregnant with his child and two times it was ripped away from her. She was never even given the chance to defend and protect the lives she was entrusted with. Given the chance she would have, at all cost. However these beings did not fight fair or honorably. Instead they gave her drugs, used restraints and other means that left her unconscious and helpless. When she awoke, her baby was gone like it never was. Being used as a laboratory specimen instead of a living, breathing, and individual being didn’t seem to end and it went against everything Spock had tried to teach her. When she was on Vulcan, strict precautions were even taken to keep her safe. She was guarded as the daughter of the ambassador and the wife of Spock who had become somewhat of a legend on Vulcan. The mystery was how someone was able to get near the premises much less take her off without anyone knowing until after she was abducted. Something was not adding up correctly. “I have been thinking the same thing.” Yanira heard Spock say. He opened his eyes and sat up, “It may be possible that someone on Vulcan gave you over to those criminals. Sending the guards away or they simply looked away themselves.” He said, “I have already requested a full scale investigation of those connected with our family. Someone pretending to be other then they seem to be.” Yanira sighed and rubbed her eyes with her hand. Spock arched a brow as he watched her, “Vulcan has always been safe for me.” She said, “Unpleasant at times perhaps, but it was safe. All Vulcan’s looked out for other Vulcan’s. Even a half-breed like me was protected from outsiders and off-worlders.” Her eyes closed as she rested her head against the door way, “I cannot believe that another Vulcan would betray us in such a way.” “Try not to dwell on these thoughts, until we return to Vulcan. Investigations are already underway. It will not be long before the perpetrators are discovered. Then perhaps we will get the answers we seek, and can put an end to this ring of terror.” He said. He moved over a bit and pulled the blanket back inviting her to bed. She gave a simple nod, and turned the light in their quarters out before joining him and trying to rest and to put her concerns out of her head for now. Analysis “I have to admit, Spock. Considering her education while growing up, she certainly could have made a great historian had she been trained for it. In fact if she’s still looking for a new profession I think that might be a good place to start.” McCoy said handing his report to Captain Kirk. “I think the description and details she gave us would have added up to a full novel if we had it printed and bound.” “You asked for every detail she could recall, Doctor. She simply gave you what you asked for.” Spock said not needing to look at the report having witnessed it first hand through her eyes. Captain Kirk’s face was stern as he looked through it not liking what he read anymore than any other decent person would. It made him angry on many levels that eugenics were of such interest to these ‘scientists’ that it was perfectly acceptable for them to abduct and torture young women like Yanira and when they felt like it. It was disgusting and inhuman. Not even the Klingon’s would do such things and they were barbarians. “Have this entire file sent to Star Fleet command and the Vulcan high council immediately. Hopefully with this wealth of new information that Yanira has provided us the hunt for these monsters should be short and their punishment administered quickly.” Captain Kirk said. Spock had been quiet for a few moments and this caught Kirk’s attention. Usually he could tell when Spock was conflicted about something, it was usually written on his face when he hadn’t meant it to be. The Captain just starred at Spock until he acknowledged him. “I apologize for my drifting, Captain.” Spock said as soon as he realized. “It seems something is on your mind and you can’t decide if it’s worth mentioning or not, Mr. Spock.” The Captain suggested. His Science Officer sighed not wanting to say his thoughts a loud. “Throughout history, there have been scientists that have resorted to . . . shall we say, severely unethical practices. The result of these indiscretions has been remedies to many diseases that were assumed terminal with no known treatment or cure, and the development of medications to treat a number of illnesses and diseases that had no treatments before.” Both Kirk and Bones starred at Spock in disbelief. It almost sounded as if he was defending these methods that had been employed against his own family. “Are you insane?” Bones said starring at the Vulcan wide eyed. “These people stole and tortured your wife and murdered your children!” He exclaimed, “Are you actually going sit there and sympathize with these monsters!!!” He yelled. “Of course not, Doctor. I am simply pointing out the fact that such means made the men who used them heroes in following decades. I do not sympathize with Yanira’s abductors in the slightest. I am explaining what their rationality behind her selection for such experimentation and abduction undoubtedly was.” Spock answered. “The fact that you would know and understand the rationally behind these things is disturbing enough Mr. Spock.” Captain Kirk said looking at the Vulcan. Spock arched his brow not quite understanding their reactions to his words. “That young girl may never sleep well again, Spock. Terrified that when she closes her eyes she might open them to some strange place where she is being poked, prodded, cut open and unmercifully experimented on.” Bones ranted in Yanira’s defense. “Being married to someone like you must be a nightmare and a half! If you’re going to sympathize with anyone, then sympathize with her for Christ’s sake!” “Doctor, once again you insist on apply human standards, beliefs and customs to non-human species. Also, I believe that you may be forgetting that she was not the only one who lost a child.” His words quieted both Bones and the Captain which was perhaps his intention in the first place. “We did not have time to find the remains of our offspring, and the knowledge that he is on display somewhere observed as a specimen is an unsettling thought that we attempt to put out of our minds since nothing can be done.” Kirk sighed a bit embarrassed, and regretting his words earlier. It was difficult to relate to Spock and Yanira, for too many reasons to list. No one was quite in their situation, and no one could understand completely what they were going through as much as they could. “We’ll find them Spock.” The Captain finally said. Spock just arched a brow before looking through a few files. His emotions were hidden not wishing to display them. Strange Transmissions Yanira was sitting at the computer console in Mr. Spock’s quarters returning to her studies of what available information there was in the ships data banks. It was always exciting to read their files since most of the history was through the eyes of Humans. Not exactly the case on Vulcan. History was written through logical and unbiased eyes on their planet. It was Spock’s shift and he was currently on the bridge and would not be back for several hours. Engrossed in her studies, the image on the screen started to experience some sort of interference and began to distort and frizz as another image seemed to appear instead of the file she had been reading. It was very grainy, and the signal seemed weak. Yet the face she saw seemed oddly familiar, although she couldn’t recall when she had seen it. “Yanira.” Her eyes went wide when the image called her by name, and she frowned leaning forward an typing in a few commands to get her other screen back. But the control console was completely unresponsive. “This is the second time you have escaped us.” She froze and looked at the image again when she heard what the image said. Now she was extremely aware that this was one of her abductors. “I did not escape you.” She answered, “The first time you sold me into slavery, the second I was rescued by Star Fleet.” She said in a cold tone. “The force that even now is tracking you down, to stop your kidnapping and murdering of innocent victims.” “Are you certain that is what they are doing?” Yanira didn’t understand the question put to her, “It won’t be long before you are back in our possession again you belong to us. This is what you are for. ” The image said. “What is my purpose to you?” She asked wondering what their answer would be. “You are a subject of study a specimen to help us understand. To understand Mr. Spock and his genetic traits better.” It said. Now Yanira was feeling both anger and overwhelming anxiousness, “My purpose is to serve my master, to serve my husband. That was always my purpose and always will be. You do not factor into the life that Spock has made for me.” She said, “And the children you have stolen from my body were his children, his offspring. I may mean nothing to anyone in this entire universe, but those children belonged to his family, his father’s family. It is unforgivable what you have done.” Her eyes were like fire and she wished this person was in her reach. “Your erratic emotions are one of the many reasons we chose you. It may prove that a half human, half Vulcan like Mr. Spock is more unstable than first thought. However, it cannot be proved nor disproved without having you in our possession to test. True, we did make it so that your emotions were a bit closer to the surface so that you would be able to feel them, and react to them more easily . . .” The figure said. Her eyes went wide, “YOU did this to me!” She roared into the screen. “Come to us, Yanira. You’re ours and you will never escape us. How many more must suffer before you accept what you are?” The voice said. “Yanira?” She jumped when she heard a voice call her name from behind her. She turned to see Spock standing at the door. He had opened the door and come in and she hadn’t heard it. Turning back to the screen, she found herself starring at the historical records she had been viewing before the image had appeared. She looked it over, and quickly typed in a few commands trying to recall what she had just seen, but it was to no avail. “Are you alright?” He asked closing the door of their quarters. Yanira continued to pound away at the keyboard trying to get something, to get anything to come up to might prove she had seen what she had seen. But there was nothing. She stopped typing and looked down at the keyboard in defeat, “Yes. I must have drifted off while I was working. You startled me awake.” She said not knowing what was going on. “You have not been sleeping well. You are certainly in need of more rest.” He said looking at her face. “Perhaps Doctor McCoy should make an examination to see if there is any physical reason for your difficulties.” He suggested. She turned off the computer screen and shook her head slightly, “No I am fine.” She insisted folding her hands in her lap. Spock looked at her another moment arching a brow, not knowing why her behavior seemed so despondent, but deciding not to press the issue. He turned and walking into the next room. Relatives Yanira was on the communications dead having received a transmission from Vulcan, from her mother-in-law. It was the first time since she had been rescued that she had the opportunity to speak with her. Amanda was quite concerned about them both. “I am very sorry for you both.” She said sincerely, “About everything that has happened. I can’t imagine what you are going through.” Amanda expressed. “We are doing what we can here to find those who did this. Serek has personally gone to Star Fleet in order to ensure they are doing everything that is in their power to solve this.” “I know and I am very grateful to him and to you.” Yanira said hating that everyone seemed to want to talk about the one thing she would like to dwell on. “Thank you.” She said softly. “How is Spock?” She asked, “Is he holding up alright since they found you?” She asked. “He is a Vulcan.” She answered, “He does not show it emotionally for any humans to see.” She said honestly. “But he does feel grief?” Which she felt was a somewhat foolish question, but she wanted to know if it was something he was trying to hold in. It would make him very difficult to be someone for Yanira to gain support from. “Yes. When we are alone, we both grieve together.” She said softly knowing she could tell her mother in low about such things, “It cannot be helped. But I fear it would be worse were we not able to share our pain with each other.” Amanda nodded, “Yes. I know. Serek and I were devastated to hear of your loss. Its our loss as well. We are thankful that you were rescued.” “I know you were looking forward to Grandchildren and I’m ashamed that I was unable to protect our child more than I can ever express.” She said turning her eyes downcast. “It’s not your fault, Yanira.” Amanda said, “How could you fight those you couldn’t even see? From what has been described to us, you had no chance to defend yourself. I know you did everything you could, but you were simply outnumbered, and the attack was unanticipated.” “As a mother, it was my duty to defend the unborn life inside of me at all costs.” Yanira said, “And I did not do that, twice.” Her eyes remained down, as her emotions were starting to ebb over to where she could not keep them inside another moment. It wouldn’t be the first time she slipped around Amanda, as Amanda had a tendency to encourage her to show her emotions. “You cannot control everything that happens in the Universe Yanira. Good and Evil are simply the roots and fabric of our existence. Both Serek and Spock will tell you that. There are those who are evil that will attack good, unprovoked for their own personal gain. This is what has happened to you and Spock. But you must not let it over take you, or defeat you. Both you and Spock are strong, and together I know that there is nothing you cannot overcome.” Amanda explained. Several moments passed, before tears started to well in Yanira’s eyes, “Mother . . .” She began taking a ragged breath, before her tear filled eyes turned up towards the screen, “I cannot bare to go through this again.” She said honestly her voice starting to shake. “The heartache is too much and as a Vulcan emotion is uncivilized. If one feels them, one must keep them to themselves at all costs.” She looked down again, “I fear that I cannot do this, were I to find myself with child again. I would bring shame and dishonor to Serek and Spock.” Amanda listened, and could understand. “Yanira,” She said gently, “You have heard the saying, “Time heals all wounds”? Perhaps that is not exactly accurate, but time certainly has a way of dulling the pain. I think that you and Spock will one day wish to try again. All hope is not lost.” She assured her. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
