Disclaimer: I do not own "Sherlock" as that belongs to the BBC. I make no money from this! |
Author’s Note – Thank you to everyone who has waited patiently for the next chapter. I really do have to learn to balance my muses better, and there was also the issue with real life problems. At least I’m trying to update, which is good – right? Another thank you goes to those who have read and reviewed this story.
Any mistakes I make, I apologize for. I’ve never been to the UK, though I badly want to, and all my information has been researched via search engines. Disclaimer – I do not own “Sherlock” nor do I make any money from this story. I’m just having fun with it!Chapter Four – Getting StartedJohn opened the door to reveal Mycroft’s assistant, and she entered the building once he gestured for her to do so. She said nothing as she followed him up to the flat, nodding at Lestrade’s greeting.“Mr. Holmes has arrangements made for you,” the woman began as the physician took his seat. “First off, here are your papers for the moment. Identification, maps, passports, tickets to Swansea, and as well as mobiles for you to use. A number to reach him has been programmed into them as well as a number to reach me.”John took the packet, looking the information over. He had been given a new military ID, still the same rank but a different name to accompany his face. A new NHS card had been issued too, and the physician pulled everything out of his wallet that had his name on it and handed it to Mycroft’s assistant to hold for him.Anthea took both his ID and the detective’s, storing it safely within the case she carried, and watched as the pair loaded their new cards into their wallets. Money was handed off to them, tucked away in their wallets as well as special pockets inside the backpacks.“This key is for a locker in Swansea,” she advised as she handed it to John. “Inside of the locker will be ammunition as well as the weapons you’ll need for this operation. Should anything become lost, just let us know. Once the operation is complete and you find you need to move out of England, signal myself or Mr. Holmes and then place the weapons into a locker. An agent will be waiting to take the key and give you a new one for the destination.”John nodded, pinning the key inside of his pocket so he wouldn’t lose it. He was grateful for Mycroft’s assistance with this, putting aside his anger for the moment. He and Greg would very desperately need the man’s ability to supply them as well as hand them information they needed.
“Thank you, Anthea,” he said to her. “I’ll make sure one of us keeps in touch with either you or Mycroft during this trip.”“We’ll be looking for your calls,” she answered. “You will also be informed of any movements reported in regards to young Mr. Holmes; it will be either through a call or a trusted messenger who has the password.”Greg and John nodded, getting everything settled as she spoke. The detective was contemplating the information she was giving them, not finding anything to question her about as it looked as if Mycroft had everything under control for the time being. He appreciated that, knowing this would take a lot of strain and worry off of their shoulders.“Right, I think we can head out then,” John said, shrugging into his jacket before picking up his backpack. “Anthea, lock up behind us please,” he asked her, handing her his keys. “Also, please look in on Mrs. Hudson.”“I’ll see to it personally,” she assured him, knowing of the regard both John and young Mr. Holmes held for their landlady. “Thank you,” he said softly. “She’s taken Sherlock’s death hard and will not deal well with my going on this trip. I don’t like the idea of her being left alone, especially at her age.”“I’ll make time to spend with her at least once a week,” the personal assistant promised. “If not me, then Mr. Holmes will look in on her. Either way, she’ll not be left alone.”“I appreciate that, Anthea,” he replied, then headed for the door. He heard Greg’s footsteps, telling him that he was being closely followed. John stepped out onto the sidewalk, drawing in a slow breath of air. It felt strange knowing he was leaving on a mission, but it was also a good thing too. He’d been stagnating since Sherlock’s dive off of the roof of Bart’s, and the knowledge he was finally doing something to help boosted his spirits.“Tube or taxi?”“I think tube,” he answered, heading towards the entrance near his home. “Less chance of becoming too noticeable and gives us time to get into the right mindset for this.”“Right,” Greg replied, falling into step beside his friend. “So, this trip should be interesting. I’ve never been there before.”“Neither have I,” John said with a wry smile. “Fortunately, we’ve got maps so we won’t get too lost while on this trip.”“Mobiles should have some form of GPS on them,” the detective replied, fishing his out to check out the features. Even though they were temporary ones, Mycroft had ensured that they would have everything they could possibly need on these mobiles.“Great, more gadgets to try to figure out,” the smaller male grumped. It was common knowledge that he and technology tended to be at odds with each other. Medical and military items weren’t too bad, but normal technology seemed determined to stymie him at the best of times.Greg laughed a bit, tucking his mobile away as he did so. He had been privy to a few of the teasing sessions Sherlock had put John through when the man had accidentally locked himself out of his own mobile and computer. The reactions between the two had been rather cute and very funny to watch.“Laugh it up,” the doctor pouted, knowing he was being teased. “Let’s see how you do in my part of the world when it comes to our trip.”“Oh I don’t doubt I’ll be lost for a while,” the silver haired male teased. “But I’m a quick study for the most part so I won’t be too far behind.”“Or so you think,” the former captain replied. “I’ve got years on you for this one, mate.”“Yeah, I know but doesn’t that mean I should be able to keep up with you since we’re not too far apart in age?”John smacked his friend on the arm, knowing that was a poke at his age. Greg laughed, ducking a bit to get out of his range.“Oi, watch the mouth, mate,” the doctor warned. “You know what they say about payback.”“It’s a bitch, I know,” the taller one replied with a grin. “But I can give it out just as easily so keep that in mind.”They went into the tube entrance, using the Oyster cards that Anthea had given them earlier to pay for the journey to the train station. The two got onto the right train and settled for the journey, sitting beside each other. This part of the trip was taken in silence as the occupants of the train were rather noisy for this time of day, and neither man wanted to compete with the cacophony to make themselves heard.Once at their destination, the pair exited the tube and headed towards the train station. It didn’t take long before they had found their seats, getting comfortable after stowing their bags. “First order of business once we get there,” John began, settling himself comfortably on his seat. “We’ll need to find a place to stay until we’re finished looking around.”“Sounds like a plan,” Greg agreed, keeping to the role they were now playing. “Hopefully, there’ll be interesting sights to see while we’re there.”“Should be,” the doctor agreed. “I’ve heard it’s got a uniqueness to it so this trip shouldn’t be a dull one at all. We might find a few nice souvenirs to pick up while we’re there.”The detective nodded, body rocking when the train started to pull away from the platform. Within moments, the lurching had stopped and he leaned back in his seat.“And we’re on our way,” he said, running fingers through his hair. “Let’s hope this proves to be a successful trip.”Dark blue eyes turned from his friend to the window, a wistful expression on his face for a moment as he thought on the words Lestrade had said as well as contemplating the reason for this trip. A knot of anxiety and excitement twisted in his stomach, and it was a knot he was very familiar with. He’d experienced it many times in his past.John sighed, resting his elbow on the arm of the chair and leaning his head on his fist as he continued watching the scenery pass. Sensing his mood, Greg said nothing and looked out of the window as well. Both men were focused on their goal, hoping that they would make it in time.Sherlock, be careful. We’re coming for you.Author’s End Note – It’s short, I know but I needed a chapter to help get them from Baker Street to the train and get information out as well. I hope you guys enjoyed it! Please let me know what you thought of it, and thank you for reading. See you next chapter! ~LaranWhile AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
