It was an early Monday morning when he first noticed the problem. When he first rolled off his bed in the hotel room, Sam hadn’t noticed any difference. After he finally focused on what he was doing in the bathroom, the tall hunter discovered his focus was a little blurry. A hard blink of his eyes and his gaze was focused again. Sam washed his face and didn’t think much of it.
The same thing happened on Tuesday and he mentioned it to his brother. Dean joked that all of the dedicated time in front of the computer screen was finally taking its toll.
“Jerk.”
“Bitch.”
He took a break from in front of his computer, opting to do his research the old fashioned way with books from the library. For the rest of the week, his vision blurred a little more here and there throughout the day. The brothers figured Sam was probably running on low for sleep. So they finished up their latest case and returned to the bunker.
This was all good until Saturday.
“DEAN!”
Dean dropped the empty cereal bowl into the sink and bolted out of the kitchen.
“Sammy!” Dean called.
He heard a crash and followed it to the closest bathroom near Sam’s room. Sam was standing in front of the bathroom sink, clutching the counter with white knuckles. Startled by his brother’s behavior, Dean placed a hand on Sam’s arm. Sam clutched his brother’s arm, his nails digging painfully into his flesh.
“D-Dean, I…I can’t see. I can’t see,” Sam whispered.
Dean caught his brother as his body gave out. He leaned his younger brother against him and helped him back to his bed. Once inside the room, he had the younger hunter sit down on the bed. Dean comforted his brother, trying to calm him down from his panicked state. Had it been anyone else, it would have been awkward, but for Sam, Dean was used to being the older, comforting brother.
Dean stood close letting his brother hug him and cry into his shirt. He ran a hand up and down the distraught male’s back. He knew what was upsetting his brother the most. Being blind could get a hunter killed. It took a while for him to calm his brother enough to get a proper look at his eyes. By then they had to wait for Sam’s pink, puffy eyes to go away. Dean made him lie down and rest.
While Sam rested, Dean snuck out of hearing range to call Castiel. He was frustrated when he heard the angel’s voicemail. He put his phone away and returned to his brother’s side. After allowing the younger male some time to rest, Dean took a good look at his eyes. He flashed a bright flashlight in his eyes and tried to get him to follow his finger.
Dean got more frustrated. Sam’s eyes reacted to the light, dilating and expanding when appropriate. He wasn’t able to follow Dean’s finger because he couldn’t so much as see the shadow. However, he was able to move his eyeballs all around. For all intent purposes, Sam’s eyes appeared normal.
“It’s okay. You’re going to be okay, Sam. We’re gonna get a hold of Cas and he’s going to fix this…whatever this is,” Dean vowed.
Sam gave him a weak nod. Dean left and brought him back some breakfast. He flipped open his phone and made another desperate call to the angel’s cell phone. Voicemail. Now he was really starting to get pissed. Sam was eating his breakfast quietly when he heard his brother swearing. He put his plate down on the bedside table and listened as Dean slammed his phone down.
“Sam, I’ll be right back.”
“Okay, Dean.”
Dean stormed out of the bunker and over to the car. He made himself ready before he tipped his head up towards the sky.
“O-kay, Cas. I don’t know what the fuck is going on with you, but you get your feathery ass down here now.”
He heard a familiar flapping sound before an even more familiar voice piped up.
“What a lovely invitation that was, Dean-o.”
Dean grinded his teeth down as he slowly turned around. Not only was the blasted archangel accompanying Castiel, but the little pipsqueak had the audacity to sit on his baby.
“Dean,” Castiel greeted with a slight smile twitch of the lips.
Dean’s only reply was to flick open a lighter and toss it to the ground. Taken by surprise by Dean’s actions, Castiel jumped up to sit on the hood beside Gabriel as a line of holy fire came alit in a large circle around the impala. Gabriel raised an eyebrow at him.
“Is this really necessary?”
Dean smirked.
“You bet your feathery ass it is. Where have you been?” Dean demanded, his gaze shooting to Castiel.
Gabriel rolled his eyes while Castiel did his typical head tilt.
“I needed you. Sam needed you,” Dean said.
All of the laughter suddenly left Gabriel’s face. In that moment, Dean saw the Archangel and not the Trickster. Slowly, Gabriel stood up from the impala and stepped as close to the flames as he dared.
“What’s wrong with Sam, Dean?” Gabriel demanded in a low growl.
“His eyes have been bothering him, but we thought he just needed sleep. He woke up this morning and he can’t see. He’s blind.”
/……/
Sam kept as still as possible while his head was gently turned this way and that. Dean had come in with Castiel and Gabriel in tow. Neither angel had spoken, but Castiel’s coat flapped when he walked and Gabriel smelled like freshly fallen rain. Gabriel’s hands were gentle yet strong as they passed across his forehead.
Sam could feel tingles running through his body like when Castiel would touch his forehead and heal him. However, he could tell the healing wasn’t working. He heard Gabriel turn his head and say something to Castiel in Enochian. He heard the flapping sound that came with the disappearance of an angel.
“Gabriel?” Sam asked.
“It’s okay, kiddo. Cas just took Dean away on a little vacation while I look you over,” Gabriel told him.
Sam swallowed nervously.
“What do you need me to do?” Sam mumbled.
Gabriel leaned down so he could whisper to Sam. The hunter bit his bottom lip but nodded. Sam felt Gabriel step back before Sam scooted back and laid down. He stretched out his limbs but kept his arms down by his side. He felt Gabriel climb onto the bed.
“Just relax, Sammy. Gonna take a look at you,” Gabriel whispered in reassurances.
No matter how much warning he got, Sam still couldn’t be prepared for the pain that laced through his body when Gabriel dug his hand into him. He gritted his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut as he rode out the pain. The best way to see what was going on was for Gabriel to check out his soul and this was the only way to do it. Finally, unable to weather the pain any longer, Sam lost consciousness.
Even though his full focus was on taking a look at Sam’ soul, Gabriel knew when Sam fell unconscious. A trickle of guilt crept into his heart for causing so much pain in his hunter. That’s right. Like Castiel with Dean, Gabriel had claimed Sam Winchester as his hunter. Even if his brothers ever escaped the cage, he would fight to his last dying breath before he let either one get a fingernail on Sam.
He couldn’t hold back a grimace as he pulled his hand out. Sam let out a small whimper as he did. It was worse than he thought. It was a lasting curse leftover from Sam saying yes to Lucifer. Even though Lucifer hadn’t been in place for long, the damage had been done. It didn’t start until after Gabriel retrieved Sam’s soul and he and Castiel carefully placed it back inside Sam. It was so miniscule that Gabriel couldn’t have seen it until almost too late.
However, Gabriel knew what he needed to do. He knew a surefire way of restoring Sam’s sight and erasing the leftover traces of his brother.
[Castiel.]
His brother answered him a second later.
[Brother?]
[I need you to keep Dean well away from here.]
There was a small pause.
[Gabriel?]
[Trust me on this, Cassie. This is Luci’s doing. I have to burn away his leftover fragments in Sam.]
Gabriel knew Castiel was aware of what that meant. Of what it would take to help Sam.
[I will keep Dean away.]
Gabriel smiled.
[Thank you, Cas.]
Gabriel didn’t have a lot of time before Lucifer’s doings would take hold of Sam and he would be permanently blind. Gabriel put his fingers up to Sam’s forehead. Sam jolted awake. His eyes flew open and darted all around.
“Gabriel?”
“I’m here,” Gabriel said, squeezing Sam’s arm after he sat up.
The archangel watched as Sam’s tongue slipped out to wet his lips.
“Did you find out what’s wrong with my eyes?” Sam asked.
“I did, Sammy, and I know how to fix it,” Gabriel answered.
Swallowing deeply, Sam asked him what it would take to fix it. Gabriel laid it out in plain words for him. He waited for Sam to think over what he had told him. It didn’t take him long before he spoke again.
“Let’s do it,” Sam said.
Gabriel narrowed his gaze. A dark look – the look of an Archangel – descended over his
“This is various serious, Winchester. We go down this path and there will be no going back.”
Sam turned his head and Gabriel would swear that man could see into his very soul in that moment.
“Read my mind.”
Taking a leaf out of his brother’s book, Gabriel tilted his head.
“Thought you didn’t like me doing that,” Gabriel said.
Sam repeated the command. Gabriel lifted the filter between him and Sam. Suddenly, he understood. The feelings he had been hiding behind all the pranks and the teasing were reciprocated. Sam felt the same way.
Sam’s yelp of surprise was muffled by Gabriel’s mouth covering his own. He fell back onto the bed with his clothes suddenly vanished. Sam groaned as his mouth exploded with energy never felt before by the hunter. The archangel was clearly very skilled in the art of making out. His hands roamed every inch of Sam’s body, stroking over sensitive areas which lead to more pleasurable sounds from the hunter.
When it started getting hard for Sam to breathe, Gabriel pulled away and moved down to his neck. Sam threw his head back with a groan. Gabriel showed his appreciation by biting down softly and sucking a deep mark into the skin. Sam whimpered in protest when his groin rubbed against an equally hard member through a thin pair of pants. A familiar chuckle lifted up to his ear before Gabriel sucked a small mark behind it.
“Gotta tell me what you want, Sammy,” Gabriel teased.
“You. Naked.”
The growl was strained and soft, but Gabriel heard it clear as day. A sharp snap and Gabriel was just as naked as his hunter. They moved under the sheets where the two exchanged more kisses, nips on the skin, and stroking across all territory.
“Fuck. Fuck, Gabe.”
His hands slipped down to tangle in the archangel’s hair as he swallowed around his cock. He tried to thrust up, but something was holding down his hips; Gabriel was cheating by using a tiny bit of Grace to do it. Gabriel slipped a hand under to cradle and softly roll testicles. He licked every inch of the swollen member like it was the tastiest lollipop in the world. He sucked with earnest, swallowing the member deep.
Sam was babbling incoherently by now. Sweat glistened on his body as his back arched in pleasure. Gabriel knew he was short on time and that he would have more time later to play. A quiet snap and Sam nearly came off the bed when a wet finger slid in & struck his prostate. He cried out in pleasure as the finger turned into two.
Gabriel made sure Sam felt nothing, but pleasure. He wouldn’t allow the hunter to feel an inch of pain. At least not while he was in control. He finished stretching Sam before releasing his mouthful. Gabriel leaned over his soon-to-be lover, whispering for consent once again. He wanted to make absolute certain that Sam was for this.
“Do it.”
Gabriel smiled.
“It’ll be my pleasure, Sammy,” Gabriel whispered in a husky voice.
When Gabriel finally slid into Sam, they both felt as if a missing puzzle piece had slid into place. Gabriel softly shook, but stayed still. He had to calm his rapidly beating heart and wanted to give Sam time to adjust. All the sudden, Gabriel let out a yelp of his own when tight, hot walls squeezed his member. He shot an annoyed look at Sam, who was grinning up at him.
“Well, if that’s the way you want to play it,” Gabriel smirked.
Sam’s grin melted into a loud groan when Gabriel slipped out until the only tip was in and then dove in hard. The thrust struck his prostate dead on. The archangel was almost punishing him in striking the small gland on every thrust. They both knew when they were getting close. The only reason Sam hadn’t come yet was Gabriel’s Grace again.
Need to do this right, Gabriel thought.
And he could feel it coming on, too.
“Sammy. Sammy, fuck. Need…close your eyes. Damn. Close ‘em, Sammy,” Gabriel groaned.
Listening to him, Sam closed his eyes and squeezed them shut. It took two more powerful thrusts and Gabriel’s Grace releasing Sam for both to come hard. Sam’s body shook violently with the power of them coming simultaneously. He thought he heard a ripping noise before losing consciousness.
Pulling out of his mate, Gabriel smoothed Sam’s hair out of his face. He shifted as his wings stretched out across the expanse of the room. The ripping sound Sam had heard had been Gabriel’s wings shooting out of his body’s back. He pressed two fingers to Sam’s forehead and smiled. He laid down and pulled the hunter into his arms.
His hunter.
/……/
Dean popped his head into the bathroom where Sam was brushing his teeth. He flashed a big old grin at his younger brother.
“Hey, Sam. Got a case in Texas. Your bag still in the same place in your room?” Dean asked.
Sam nodded while picking up a glass of water. Dean disappeared out of the doorway as Sam swished the water around in his mouth.
“Sam!”
Sam spat his toothpaste out in the sink.
“What?” he called back.
“You sure nothing happened between you and the douche angel?”
Sam frowned at the mirror. Why would Dean bring that up? It had been two weeks since Gabriel had restored his sight.
“Yea! Why?”
“Because you got a large burn on your ceiling that looks a lot like wings to me!”
Sam slapped a hand to his face. He silently cursed the little archangel as he left the bathroom to try and explain this thing to Dean. It was a good thing Dean couldn’t see his angel’s mark where it was. Then again his brother’s eyes had no business looking at that particular location on his younger brother.
