Jack held his breath, as he hurriedly searched for a sign the Doctor hadn't died on him. He finally found his hearts beating, but it was weaker then usual. His breathing seemed shallow. A couple of times, even harsh. He knew the Doctor was hurt, but he usually bounced back rather quickly if it didn't kill him. Very carefully, very gently he scooped the Doctor up into his arms. To his surprise the Doctor weighed more than he thought.
“Alright beautiful, does this guy have a bed or some place we can lay him down?” A noise came from behind him, turning he watched in amazement as an entire corridor shifted. It vanished within seconds, soon a room appeared. The door had a couple of strange markings on it. Adjusting the Doctors head against his shoulder, his breathing tickled Jacks neck. The feeling of carrying the Doctor like this, brought a strange smile to Jacks face. He pulled him a little tighter to his own body. He had seen the Doctor in a state before, and vulnerable was never one of them. If he had gotten that way, it had been over something brave, or gallant. Even so, it was not something he wanted anyone to see. The Doctor was really good at hiding things, emotions, personal problems, and of course pain. He hated looking weak, hated being pitied, and hated needing help when it came to his personal demons. Help to save the world was fine. Help because he couldn't handle something bothering him emotionally, good luck. Unless you were a pretty little blond, you may or may not have just gotten glimpses. The Doctor had walls as thick as his head sometimes. Don't forget the army of anger and stubbornness to back it up if the first defense failed. Jack shook his head,
“Your such a beautiful idiot, you know that?”
Entering the room, being mindful not to bash the poor Gallifreyan against a frame, Jack was surprised. The room was not as big as the others, but it had almost the same layout. The furnishings were simple, dark, and not like anything Jack had ever seen. The bed was massive. It has been covered in more modern fabrics, but its frame was breath taking. Very gently he eased the weary Time Lord into bed. The older male gave a small moan, but never awoke. Jack sat on the edge of the bed, staring upon his old friends features.
Even like this, the Captain still got butterflies. Every time he got anywhere near him, saw him, thought of him. Everything about him made Jack feel an ache of desire. He felt like the room showed a personal, almost intimate side of the Doctor that never got past more than a joke between friends, or a fiery kiss. He wondered how many, if any of the companions were ever in this room. He wondered if the Doctor ever had intimate moments, if he made love, pleasure. Surely he must at some point or another. A heat seemed to form under his collar at the thought. He remembered when he was still mortal, kissing the Doctor goodbye. What a rush it had been, he still could feel those lips if he thought about it enough. As he rose from the bed, Jack then noticed carvings along the bed frame. The posts on the corners seemed to swirl with writings in a language Jack had seen all over the TARDIS. That was when he noted to himself, all the odd furniture had the same patterns. A warm feeling crept into the back of Jacks mind, it made him feel so alone, so heart broken like never before. He realized it was the TARDIS projecting those feelings. Almost as if making him guide his hand along the wood again, he saw it. The image had been carved more recently then the others, how long ago though was uncertain. Regardless, the Doctor had added her to every piece by the same odd language symbols.
“This is from...” Jack pulled his hand away from a chest of drawers, “This is from.. his home?” The realization hit him in the chest. It felt like being pierced by an arrow dead center to his heart. The Doctor had surrounded himself with the TARDIS' help of things from before the Time War. He remembered Rose telling him once that the Doctor had a large family, followed by a wife, children, grand child etc. He wondered what else might lie inside the room, it's places. The thought though made him remember Steven, his daughter, Ianto, Jack, the others. Jack felt queasy, his stomach burned painfully. The whole room suddenly felt suffocating. He had to get out of there, now.
Sucking in slow deep breaths in the TARDIS door way, Jack tried to make the sick feeling disappear. He wished the Doctor was there to offer comfort, words, touch, anything. He wished he could bury his face in the Doctors embrace. He longed to feel those lips again, that strange feeling he had gotten from it. No one could ever give him the feelings that kiss did, not in an entire lifetime. Jack closed his eyes and leaned against the door.
“My room still here beautiful?” He murmured, “I could really use a shower and a place to wallow in my misery”
