A sharp cry escaped Erin's lips as she felt an unknown hand brush against her, panic surging through her like wildfire. “Get away from me!” she screamed, her heart racing like a drum in her chest as she pushed against her unseen assailant.
“Stop!… Leave me alone…” Fear laced her cries as she struggled to open her eyes, yearning to identify the figure but finding only darkness, her chest tight and her head throbbing like a storm of pain.
Maggie gnawed at her lip, her heart splintering as she witnessed Erin struggle against the shadows of her tormentors. "Lindsay, it’s just us. You’re safe," Rhodes attempted to soothe the female detective they had all come to cherish as a friend.
Yet, in this harrowing moment, someone had inflicted such deep pain upon Erin that she recoiled from the very notion of help, even from those who cared for her.
“No… Stay away from me…” Erin wailed, her mind trapped in the nightmare of Tawny's house, haunted by memories of Henley looming over her.
“Erin, open your eyes for me,” Rhodes urged, his voice a lifeline that cut through her haze of confusion. The familiarity of his tone began to soothe her frayed nerves.
As if peeling back the layers of a suffocating dream, Erin gradually pried her eyes open, revealing the sterile sanctuary of a hospital room at Med. Panic coursed through her when two large figures hovered above, setting her body trembling with fear.
“Take it easy, Erin,” April murmured, weaving through Will and Rhodes, who instinctively retreated upon sensing the terror dancing in Erin’s eyes, their hearts ablaze with fury for the man who had instilled such dread within her.
As Will and Rhodes stepped back, Erin's breathing began to steady, a calming tide washing over her. Guilt washed over the brunette, an unwelcome companion, particularly since she trusted they meant no harm.
“I’m… sorry… I…” she stammered, her words trailing off like whispers in the wind, igniting a softening of Will and Rhodes' expressions.
“I’m sorry… I don’t…” Erin’s gaze flitted to April, who enveloped her in a gentle embrace. “It’s okay, Erin,” the dark-skinned woman murmured, her hand gliding soothingly across the brunette’s back.
“This isn’t on you; Will and Conner understand,” she reassured softly, cultivating a safe haven of words.
Erin nestled deeper into April’s warmth, her sobs emerging like scattered raindrops as haunting memories of Henley’s betrayal crashed over her.
April fought back tears of her own, unaccustomed to witnessing the resolute detective so utterly disheartened.
Meeting Maggie’s gaze, April turned back to Rhodes and Will, sensing the tension coiling within Erin.
“Perhaps it’s wise for you two to confer with Hank and the others,” Maggie suggested, reading the urgency reflected in April’s eyes.
“Reveal the truth,” Maggie urged, prompting a frown from Will. “But she requires…” he started, only to be interrupted by Rhodes. “Let’s move on; there’s nothing we can do at this moment, Will,” he stated, casting a glance at Erin.
“She doesn’t need us crowding around her right now.” With that, he left the room, Will trailing behind, shutting the door softly as their hearts shattered with each anguished cry from Erin.
“This monster had better face justice!” Will exclaimed, his fist tightening, consumed by thoughts of what he would do if it were Natalie.
“I have faith that Voight will go to great lengths to make him pay for his actions,” Rhodes replied, equally furious but aware that Erin didn’t need anyone else’s rage intimidating her at the moment.
He held a protective regard for the female detective, akin to that of a younger sister, his hands balled into fists as they navigated down the corridor towards the waiting room.
( back in the waiting room with Justin, Voight and the others)
Justin found himself trapped in a restless tango, pacing the confines of the waiting room like a caged beast. Hours dripped by, six to be exact, as he strained to hear news about Erin, the burden of unease weighing heavily on his mind like a storm cloud overhead.
With raven locks tousled by anxiety, he exhaled a deep sigh, contemplating a return to the precinct, where throwing himself at the mercy of Henley felt like a tempting gamble. A dark wish flickered in his heart; he would have preferred a bullet to the head over the agonizing ambiguity that gripped him now.
Leaning against the wall, he surrendered his forehead to its cool surface, eyes narrowed, ignited in a blaze of blame that flickered across his thoughts.
His gaze sharpened on the plain wall, fury directing its arrows toward Jay—who should have been there with her, yet the freckled detective had remained absent.
His ire also found its way to Sergeant Platt, whose careless negligence allowed Erin to venture out alone without signaling Voight and the team, a decision that felt akin to leaving a candle burning in a room filled with gasoline.
Shaking his head, he felt the futility of his frustration seep in; after all, none of them had foreseen the shadows that would descend upon this fate.
Justin simmered with fury at Erin for neglecting to take backup, a fundamental duty of every officer. Yet, his true ire was reserved for Henley; he harbored a deep hatred for the man’s actions. With a forceful shove, he rejected the hand that grazed his back, craving solitude, undisturbed.
“Justin,” Voight interjected, retracting his arm as his son brusquely dismissed him. “Rhodes and Will have arrived with updates.” This pulled Justin’s focus, urging him to abandon his stance against the wall and quicken his stride toward the two doctors.
As he waited, a cloud of concern enveloped his thoughts about Erin, plunging the waiting room into a heavy silence that stoked his anger. He shot an intense gaze at Will and Rhodes, demanding answers about Erin, his heartbeat roaring like a tempest as rage surged within him.
Will and Rhodes’ words floated in distant echoes, their explanations drowned by the cacophony in his mind. He felt his father's hand settle on his shoulder. “Did you catch that?” Voight inquired.
Justin turned to his father, brows knitted in confusion, unable to grasp the words that swirled around him.
