Part VI
Rated: NC-17
When Carter woke up he found that he was in a cold sweat, he wondered why everything was feeling so real even though he couldn’t do anything to help Abby. His neck ached and he brought a hand up to rub it gently finding that there was a burning wound on the soft flesh. He winced slightly and forced himself to get up and go into the bathroom to clean up. He went to the sink and splashed some cold water onto his face and then looked in the mirror, he looked like hell. He slowly brushed his teeth and then combed his hair and left the bathroom to go into the kitchen. When he got there he made a pot of coffee and poured himself a cup and then sat down at the table. Scott Senate, he didn’t know why that name was in his dreams, he didn’t know why that name haunted his every move, but he had to find out more. He got up and walked into the other room where he kept the computer. He sat down at it and turned it on, maybe he would be able to locate this guy on the internet.
When Abby woke up she was laying in a bed in a room with a large window that over looked a field. She groaned and rubbed at her neck, the last thing she remembered was a large shock running through her body. She was dressed in a plain white nightgown and her hair was in a pony tail, she sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed. She noticed there was a table across from the bed and on it there was some food. She got up and walked to the table slowly, that’s when she saw the envelope. She picked it up and looked at it, her name was written in black ink on the outside so she opened it. She turned it upside down and dumped out the contents. What fell out was a note and a picture…it was a picture of Carter. She took in a sharp breath and picked up the picture and fell to her knees, tears welled up in her eyes and then started to stream down her face. She began to entertain thoughts that she might never see him again, thoughts that she would die alone without ever hearing his voice. She slowly brought herself back up onto the bed where she curled up with the picture and cried herself to sleep.
“Scott Senate…3715 Morgan Drive…” Carter read the information that his computer was giving him. The name had bothered him for long enough, now he finally knew something about the guy. He finished off his coffee which was cold by now and stood up, he was going to Morgan Drive and he was going to find his Abby. Just as he was getting his coat to put on the phone rang, he stood there for a moment debating weather or not he wanted to get it. Finally on the third ring he grabbed it and put it to his ear, “Hello?”
“John honey it’s Kem.” The voice on the other side of the phone said, he sighed loudly and stomped his foot she was the last person he wanted to talk to right now. He pulled his coat closed, keeping the phone pressed between his shoulder and his ear, and headed towards the front door. He was going to have to cut this conversation short, “I wanted to know how you were doing.”
“Fine just fine,” He replied it was a lie but she was in Africa and there was no way she was going to know about his trouble with Abby, “Look I’m a little busy could I call you back?” He got down and slipped on his boots and pulled a scarf from the coat rack. He hoped that this address was the real deal and that it would lead him to Scott because if it didn’t he wasn’t exactly what he should do next.
“Have you heard from your friend Abby yet?”
“No.”
“Oh well I do hope she’s okay.”
“Yes I’m sure she’ll be fine.” He snapped into the phone, she was wasting his time, he fidgeted with his keys for a moment as he debated hanging the phone up, “Kem I really have to go.” With that he hung up the phone and set it on the table which they kept under the coat rack. He then opened the door and stepped outside just as the phone started to ring again. He rolled his eyes and shut the door, locking it behind him, he didn’t have time for pleasantries, he was going to find his one true love.
When Abby woke up again Scott was standing over her just staring. She cried out in surprise when she saw him and pulled herself up so she was sitting on her knees. The picture was still in her hands and she was clutching it tightly to her chest. He was holding the plate of food from the table, she hadn’t eaten it yet and he didn’t seem to happy about that. It was just a sandwich and a diet coke but after seeing the picture of Carter it made her homesick and she didn’t feel like eating.
“Go away.” She said and then laid back down, he didn’t like that answer, so he grabbed her by her ponytail and pulled her back up so she was sitting again, “I don’t want to eat.” He picked up the sandwich and shoved it towards her face, when she turned away from him he backhanded her as hard as he could and she fell back.
“I’m going to leave and when I come back I expect this food to be gone.” He set the sandwich back down on the plate, then he set the plate on the bed and left the room slamming the door behind him. Abby sat there with one hand on the picture and one hand on her face. Slowly she reached for the sandwich and picked it up and took a bite. She took in a deep breath and chewed, if she was going to survive this she was going to have to eat. She looked at the picture again and smiled, yes she would see Carter again, yes she would hear his voice, and when she did she would tell him that she loved him.
Carter pulled up to the house on Morgan Drive and parked his car in the street outside. He got out of the car and headed up to the red door. He knocked on it three times, waited for a few moments, and then knocked again. The second time the door opened just a crack and he took a look inside. He couldn’t see anything suspicious but it was a rather large house so he decided to step inside. He didn’t get this far not to do anything about it. Inside the foyer things seemed normal, there was a coat hanging up by the door and a mirror on the wall next to it.
“Hello? Scott?” He called but there was no answer, usually he would have felt weird just walking into someone’s house but for some reason there was a little voice inside of him telling him to go in and look. He stepped in further and saw the kitchen off to the side, it was completely empty. “Hello? Anyone? Abby?” There was still no answer so he decided to go up the stairs. He made his way slowly to the top where there was two doors. He opened the first one he saw and it lead into a bedroom, what he saw in there made his jaw drop. The walls were covered with pictures of Abby, some were of her leaving work, some of them were of her leaving her apartment. He saw some with her getting out of her car, walking down the street, having a bite to eat, and working at the hospital. Carter felt sick to his stomach, he knew now that he had definitely found his lead to Abby. He reached into his coat pocket for his cell phone, he would call the police and once they were involved he would get Abby back. Before he could even open the phone he heard a noise behind him. He turned to look but there was nothing there, he stepped into the hallway but he still didn’t see anything. He shrugged slightly and started to dial the police, but then he wondered how he was going to explain to them that he had just “stumbled” onto all these pictures. He thought for another moment then decided that he would fake a story when it came down to it but before he could even put the phone to his ear he was attacked from behind and passed out.
“I brought you breakfast.” Abby said as she set the tray down on his lap, he was laying in bed and already he could tell that today was going to be a good day. She made him pancakes and eggs and brought him coffee along with the morning paper. He smiled at her, he didn’t know what he would do without her sometimes. Her smiling face really kept him going through the hard times, why had he ever chosen Kem over her? He picked up the paper and opened it to check his stocks. He did this religiously even though it didn’t really matter to him if they did good or bad, he just wanted to be with Abby.
“Thank you.” He replied and then set the paper down on the tray, she quickly burrowed under the covers next to him and then snuggled up close, “What would I do without you?” He picked up the fork with one hand and he put his other arm around her. That’s when he noticed the second fork, she had made enough for both of them and was planning to sneak some off of his plate. He laughed slightly and grabbed the other fork before she could get to it.
“Hey!”
“Calm down now…” he said with a smile on his face, he carefully used the side of the fork to cut off a piece of pancake and then he brought it to her mouth. She smiled and blew on it gently before taking it in and chewing it, it was very good. “Good?” She nodded happily and he fed her another bite. He then cut off a piece for himself but before he could get it into her mouth she dove in front of him and nabbed it. He looked at her with puppy dog eyes, then he moved the tray aside and tackled her. They both started to laugh and he leaned in to kiss her. They joined in a passionate kiss and he pulled back and looked at her, the sun shining in her hair and the smile in her eyes almost made him want to cry…and then it was gone.
Suddenly he was standing in a room with a bed and a huge window that over looked a field. He walked over to the window and looked out, over the grass and past the trees he could make out a road. He turned around and saw Abby, she was sitting on the bed with her knees pulled up to her chest. Her hair was up in a ponytail and she was in a plain white night gown. In her hand she was clutching something, a piece of paper or a picture. He approached her slowly, he was afraid that if he got to close she might vanish like in all of his other visions. When he got close enough he saw the picture she was clutching was one of him, and tears were streaming down her face.
“You are so close Carter…” She whispered but she didn’t turn to look at him she kept her gaze at the wall in front of her, “You are so close don’t give up now.” He reached to put a hand on her shoulder but before he could she was gone and he was back in the dark room. He cried out in anger and frustration, how could he be so close if he kept losing her…
When he woke up he was laying on the floor of the bedroom where he had discovered all of the pictures of Abby. They were all gone now, some one had been in the room, some one had taken the pictures down. He knew that who ever has attacked him from behind was the man who had Abby, he was very close and yet he was so far away. She slowly pulled himself into a sitting position, the back of his head was throbbing and it caused spots to dance in front of his eyes. He knew that he should go to the hospital and get things checked out but he wasn’t going to give up, he wasn’t going to stop looking. That’s when he noticed what was on the floor next to him. Apparently when he fell he had fallen on a picture of Abby, one that the man had missed in his frenzy of taking them down. He picked up the picture, it was one of her standing in county and she was talking to him. He took the picture and held it close to his chest, there had to be something else in the room…something that would lead him to her. He got up and started to go through the dresser that sat in the room across from the bed. He pulled out drawers and dumped out clothing. He went through pockets, unzipped jackets, and shook out shirts. Finally when he thought that all hope was lost a letter fell from a jacket pocket.
“2686 Samara Parkway…” He read from the envelope, it might be a stretch but he had to go there maybe that’s where she was. He hated to picture her all curled up on the bed clutching a picture of him, that drove him to want to find her even more. He slipped the picture of Abby into his pocket and left the house, this time he was sure that he would find Abby.
Abby sat on the bed wondering when Scott was going to come back. She had tried to open the door a few times but it wouldn’t budge and she didn’t think she had enough energy in her to try and knock it down. She also considered the window as an escape option but she was on the second floor, she knew she would survive the fall but if she broke her leg then she wouldn’t be able to get away. She sighed and started to pace back and fourth, he said he would be back and she had finished the food, so what was he waiting for? Suddenly the door opened and Scott stood there breathing hard, he looked like he was angry but at the same time he looked incredibly horny. He walked over to her and pulled her into a rough kiss, which she resisted but this time he didn’t care. He grabbed her by the hair and forced her back on the bed and pushed her night gown up. She cried out and tried to get him to stop but it was no use. Soon he was pounding into her body in long hard thrusts, he was being more violent then usual and she wondered why.
“Your friend…came looking…for you…” He breathed as he thrust into her, “But I…took care…of him…he won’t…find us…here.” He then sped up and got even more rough, she bit her lip and let tears fall freely from her eyes. Carter was looking for her, and that made her happy, but then he said that he had taken care of him and that made her worried. Was Carter dead? Was he hurt? Was he laying somewhere injured and not able to get any help? She started to cry for him, this time she was absolutely sure that things were hopeless.
As Carter was driving he suddenly got the feeling that his heart was shattering into a million pieces. He let the tears come freely now, he was all alone in the car and it didn’t matter if he was crying no one would see him. He could almost feel the picture in his front pocket, and no matter how hopeless things felt he knew that he was getting close and he couldn’t give up. Finally he found the address, it was on an old mailbox at the end of a long driveway but it was there. He pulled onto the dirt road and began the trek up to the house…Abby had to be there…she just had to be…
When Scott was done with her he slapped her and then left the room. She pulled her knees up to her chest and in a position that was all too familiar she laid down and started to cry. She cried tears of sorrow, tears of morning, tears of desperation. Some one had to find her soon, they just had to…she would love for it to be Carter to come and rescue her but at this point she didn’t care who it was. She started to pray, which was something she never did, and she prayed hard she told god that she would do anything for help…and help came. She heard the sound of a car and she looked up from her pillow and out of the window. Coming up the dirt road towards the house was a car…it was CARTER’S car. She jumped to her feet and ran to the window…it was him in the driver’s seat. She breathed a sigh of relief and thanked god for helping her, now it was just a matter of time.
Carter got out of the car and ran up to the door, he could tell he was close now, this had to be where Abby was. He banged on the door with his fist, then he waited a few moments and pounded on the door again. A man came and answered it, he was tall with dark hair and rather muscular forearms.
“Scott?”
“Oh shit.” He slammed the door and locked it twice and ran into the living room where his gun was sitting on the table. He grabbed it and shoved the clip in and bounded up towards the bedroom. On the outside Carter knew this was the place but now he was locked out.
“ABBY?” He called as loud as he could at the windows on the upper floor, even though he couldn’t see her he had a feeling she could hear him, “ABBY I’M COMING!” He tried kicking the door in but it was dead bolted. He growled and went to his car, he popped the trunk and found a tire iron. He rarely ever changed his own tires, whenever he got a flat he just called triple A, but for some reason…maybe fate…there was a tire iron in the back of the car. He grabbed it and ran to the front window which he smashed open and then climbed in. With the weapon in his hand he made his way towards the stairs, he was careful that no one was behind him, he wasn’t going to be knocked out again.
“CARTER!” Abby’s voice screamed from the upstairs and this time he was positive that it wasn’t just a dream, “CARTER UP HERE!”
“SHUT IT BITCH!” Scott’s voice followed her screams and there was a loud slam and the sound of a body falling.
“ABBY!” He raced up the stairs and into the first door on the right he was sure the noise was coming from there. Inside Scott was standing above Abby, she was on the floor holding her face, her nose was bleeding and so was her lip it was clear that he had hit her pretty hard. He had the gun aimed at her head, she was in a daze so she didn’t realize the gravity of the situation just yet.
“Take one more step and I shoot her.” Scott got down and grabbed Abby by the arm and pulled her to her feet. She groaned and looked at Carter and smiled slightly.
“You came.”
“Yes I did.” He smiled back at her and took in a deep breath, he had to get that gun away from her.
“SHUT UP!” Scott jammed the gun into Abby’s head and pulled her closer to him, “Get out of here and I won’t kill her.”
“I’ll call the cops…” Carter replied, “They’ll be here so fast…”
“Then I’ll shoot you.” He moved the gun from Abby’s head and aimed it at his…at least now she was out of danger.
“You can do what you want to me just let her go.” he put his hand up and took another step forward but the gun just went back to Abby’s head. Scott made a face like he was thinking about it, Abby looked at him, pleading with her eyes for him not to do something stupid. He looked at the both of them, his hand was shaking and he looked like he might drop the gun and get the hell out of there.
“Do you love her?”
“What?”
“Do you LOVE her?” Scott repeated his lower lip trembled like he was about to cry, maybe there really was something behind all of him that loved Abby too.
“I love her more then I love anything or anyone in the world.” He replied, “I went through hell these past few days and I did everything in my power to find her and I would do it again, just please let her go.” Scott took a step back and shoved Abby forward, she stepped slowly away from him and Carter pulled her into his arms. Scott watched them for a moment and then put the gun to his own head and pulled the trigger. Abby screamed and jumped more into his arms but he held her close as he watched the body fall to the floor. He guessed that if Scott couldn’t have her he didn’t want to be with anyone else. Abby buried her face into Carter’s chest and started to sob, she was so relieved that he had rescued her and now they could all just go home.
