Dean stood in the basement with Bobby while he tried to figure out how to kill their captive leviathan. “Boy, you are some kind of stupid,” Bobby commented when Dean told him what was going on between him and Liam.
“I know,” Dean agreed. “And unbelievably lucky. I thank my lucky stars every morning I wake up and he’s still next to me.”
“You’d better. I have to admit, it makes me a little uncomfortable that he’s a he, but I also have to admit that he’s the best damn thing to ever happen to you. I see the difference. You drink less, you smile more… I’d say you’re somewhere near happy with him.”
“Oh yeah, he makes life suck a lot less. That’s why I don’t get what I did. I guess maybe I didn’t think I’d get caught, but I did, so...”
“It’s called self sabotage. You’ve been happy for four years now, so I guess something in your melon decided it was time to screw it all up. You’ve got a lot of ass kissing to do. The idjit took you back because God knows why, but you ain’t done grovelling yet, I’ll tell you that.”
“Yeah, he’s still going a little hot and cold on me. He was feeling affectionate this morning, so I guess that’s good. Anyway, enough about my mess, you got anything here?”
“Nope. None of the usual stuff works.”
“That is why it is time to think outside of the box,” Liam came down with a big box full of stuff. “I’m back from my little trip to the store.”
“And you should’ve heard the things they were saying about you,” Chet smirked from the chair. “You’re an idiot and Dean thinks he’s better off without you. He got himself a woman because that’s what he wants, not you.”
“You just shut up!” Dean snapped. “Babe, don’t listen to him. He’s just trying to cause trouble.”
Liam turned to look at him coldly. “I don’t like an audience while I play, so if you two don’t mind,” he made a little shooing motion with his hand.
Bobby grabbed Dean and led him upstairs. Sam was on the phone but he hung up with a sigh. “Everything okay?” Dean asked.
“Yeah. I just miss my son. I miss Natalie too, but the kid is like growing up without me. I was just talking to him on the phone so he wouldn’t forget who I am. He said he missed me. He can use simple sentences now.”
Dean patted his shoulder. “We’ll get you home soon. We just have to figure some stuff out. I miss that kid too.”
Liam came up a little while later with the box closed up. “Okay, so, sodium borate burns them.”
“Sodium borate?” Dean raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, it’s in cleaners.”
Dean poked at the box. “What’s in here?” he opened it and jumped back as he cried out. “That’s you! That’s your head!”
“Yeah, I touched him so he decided to try mind games. Now I need to go bury this somewhere.”
“Wait, how do we know you’re you and not…?”
Liam sighed and set the box down. Then he went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife to make a small cut on his arm. Red blood dripped out. “See. Red, not black.”
“Okay,” Dean nodded. “Good. Go bury the head if that’ll work. Did you find out how he found us?”
“They learned all your aliases from Cas, and they were watching for them. Probably time to quit using the usual names. They actually knew very little about me until I brushed against him and I guess he got a psychic link to my mind or something. Which, by the way, Dean, I want to talk to you when I get back.”
“Okay,” Dean looked a little nervous as Liam carried the box out the door.
Liam came back an hour later and motioned for Dean to follow him into the bedroom. He closed the door and sat on the bed. Dean watched him still nervous. “I had a little talk with myself. It was very weird, but possibly helpful.” He took his shirt off and showed his bare chest. “Do you honestly like what you see?”
Dean looked him over, not understanding where Liam was going with it. “Yeah, I do. Why?”
“Do you really?”
“Liam, yes. I really don’t understand it, but I love you.”
“That’s just it. That’s what bothers me. You don’t understand it. It was pretty women, then you decided you wanted to give me a try.”
“No. I...” Dean sat down beside him. “I know it was a drastic change, and that’s why I struggled so much with it. Now we know a cupid had something to do with that initial attraction.”
“And that pissed you off when you found out.”
“It pissed me off that I was manipulated. The end result was good.”
“To be perfectly honest it’s been in the back of my mind that maybe it wasn’t. I’m not sure you have it in you to be in a homosexual relationship. I have been completely invested, but have you?”
“Of course I have. Liam, you are good for me. Even Bobby can see it. I’m not an alcoholic anymore, I sleep better, I smile more. I’ve told you, I know I love the person that you are, crazy and all. You’re extremely smart, very caring… Above all else you’re a survivor. You survived your dad, and when you got turned into a vampire you figured that out too. You don’t usually ask for much, which is good because I don’t have much to give to be honest.”
“You certainly like the sex.”
“Well, yeah, I mean, come on. Who doesn’t like sex? I know you like it a lot too. But you said that after your birthday I was cut off until you were done being mad. Which, if you didn’t notice, I made your birthday sex mostly about you. I did everything I know you really like so it was as good for you as possible.”
“I noticed, and it was appreciated. What if I told you I was never going to have sex with you again?”
Dean sighed. “Then I would have to rethink our arrangement.”
“Is that so?” Liam raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah. We’re being honest here, right? I would still love you and want you around, but I ain’t no celibate monk. Plus, I know I really screwed up, but I think never again is a bit of an overreaction. So, is that what you’re telling me?”
“No, was just curious about your response. As you know, sometimes I feel like you just see me as a portable sex toy. Sometimes I feel like I don’t make a difference.”
“But you do. Not always a big one, but sometimes you know things or see things that make our jobs easier. Could we do it without you? Probably. But personally I really like having you around. Look, I know you got serious issues about being loved. I get it, I do. I have milder forms of the same issues. My dad said he loved me when he died, but while he was alive he didn’t often act like it. Now I know your dad was a freaking nightmare… But Liam, I try. When you do want something I try to give it to you. When Sam told me it was important to you that you and I go on a hunt without him we did that.”
“Sam told you about our conversation?”
“Yeah. He was trying to help. Point is, when I found out how important it really was to you I gave that to you. Before I went to hell we gave you Christmas. I know I only got you a bar of rose scented soap but… Hey, crappy gifts are my family tradition. I’ve noticed you haven’t used it either.”
“If I use it then it disappears and I don’t have it anymore.”
“Oh. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Anyway, why can’t things like that be enough?”
“You have a talent for doing things that hurt me. Other than that, I don’t know. Growing up I often wondered if my brother really loved me or if he just felt sorry for me.”
“I think he loved you. You are worthy of being loved, and we all love you in one way or another. Well, I think Bobby just kind of likes you, but you haven’t been around him all that much. But Sam and Natalie love you in a friend sort of way. I love you very much in ways I can’t put into words.”
“And I still want to believe you. I’ve been doing some thinking, and I think for now I’d like to go back to basics.”
“How basic?”
Liam laid back on the bed. “I want to go back to touch.”
Dean nodded and discarded his own shirt. He leaned forward and stroked Liam’s cheek with the back of his hand. “Can I kiss you?” Liam nodded so Dean moved to plant a tender kiss on his lips while a hand moved down his neck to his chest. Dean did like before and started tracing the outline of Liam’s muscles before grabbing a nipple and playing with it.
Liam gasped and whimpered when Dean started kissing his neck while his hand moved to his belly. Dean started to slide his hand under Liam’s waistband and Liam stopped him. “No, we’re not going there just yet.”
“Okay,” Dean nodded and moved to the foot of the bed. He took off Liam’s shoes and tossed them aside before rubbing the blond’s feet.
“Still like what you see and feel?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” Dean moved to sit back on the bed and lightly stroke the blond’s stomach again. “I find you very hot. You have very soft and sensitive skin. I love the person on the inside and the body on the outside. It’s all connected, so...”
“Well, I’m kinda tired now. Will you hold me while I take a nap?”
“Sure,” Dean lay down beside him and put an arm around him. “Feel a little better at least?”
“A little,” Liam nodded and closed his eyes. “The pain you inflicted on me isn’t gonna go away overnight, but it’s easing. I love you.”
“I love you too,” Dean stroked his hair. “Your hair is such a pretty color.”
“What would you think if I cut it short and/or dyed it?”
“I think you would look weird with short hair. Your features are kinda soft and look much better framed by hair. As for dying it, I just said I really like the color it is now. Blond suits you.”
Liam sighed. “You like my more feminine features, don’t you?”
“No. You have slightly feminine features, yes, but I like the entire package just the way it is. I can’t stop you from changing it, and I would still love you, I would just have to get used to it.”
Liam nuzzled a bit closer. “I really like your eyes and your lips.”
“Thanks,” Dean smiled and nibbled Liam’s ear.
Liam fell asleep and Dean lay with him until he needed to get up and go to the bathroom. When he came out Sheriff Jody Mills was at the table. “Hi there,” he smiled at her. “What brings you here?”
“Hi,” she smiled back. “Just decided to drop by and thank Bobby for rescuing me from whatever those things are. Thought maybe I’d cook you guys a meal and straighten up around here a bit.”
“That’s really nice of you,” Sam said. “But not necessary.”
“It’s the least I can do. Bobby’s house was burned down and you boys nearly got killed. Let me be nice here. Where’s the young blond guy?”
“He’s taking a nap,” Dean answered as he sat at the table. “He’s been our cook, but I guess he wouldn’t mind a night off.”
Liam came out a few minutes later. “Where’d you go?” he asked Dean.
“Babe, I had to pee. I held it for a while, but you know what they say, when you gotta go, you gotta go. You feel better?”
“Yeah. Not quite awake yet, but… Um, hi...” his attention turned to Jody.
“Hi. Sorry, but I took your job for the night. You like spaghetti?”
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Liam grabbed a soda and went to sit on the couch. He took a drink and his eyes bugged out and he swallowed quick and started choking with some soda spilling out of his mouth.
Dean jumped up and started patting his back. “Whoa there! Babe, you can’t swallow and breathe at the same time. You okay?”
“Yeah,” Liam nodded and started breathing again. He got up and got a napkin to clean himself up a little.
Dinner was finished and they all sat around the table quietly eating. “You guys can talk shop, it’s okay,” Jodi assured them.
Sam shrugged. “Not much to talk about really. These things, we only just today figured out how to hurt them. We don’t know what they’re doing. All we know is that they want to kill us. I can’t go home to my family because it would put them in danger. It all just really sucks.”
“You have a family?” Jodi asked.
“Yeah,” Sam nodded. “I have a girlfriend and a son. He’s twenty months old now, and I haven’t seen him in almost two months.”
“That does suck,” Jodi agreed.
Liam finished and took his plate to the sink. “I’m going for a walk,” he said as he headed for the door.
“Okay, just be careful and don’t go far,” Dean said as he took his plate to the sink.
Two hours later Dean was glancing at the clock and pacing. “I think I’m gonna go look for him. He’s been gone way too long.” Dean went to the door and when he reached for the door handle it opened and Liam came in. “There you are! I was getting worried you weren’t coming back.”
Liam shrugged. “Sorry, was just doing some thinking.”
“That must’ve been a lot of thinking. Care to share what’s on your mind?”
“Stuff. Can I have another word with you in private?”
“Two talks in one day. This is serious,” Dean followed him into the bedroom.
Liam turned when the door was closed. “I need to know why.”
“Why what?” Dean asked as he sat on the bed.
“Why did you pick up that woman?”
Dean sighed. “This is what you spent two hours thinking about? I… I think I was slipping back into old habits. Bobby said it’s self sabotage, and he’s probably right. I have a low opinion of myself and I don’t think I deserve you. I don’t think I deserve to be happy like I have been with you.”
Liam nodded. “I get that I think. My mind keeps telling me I don’t deserve to be loved. You keep telling me I do. I think we both need a little self esteem inflation. But really, do you think we’re good for each other?”
“Yeah, I do. The last four years have been better than I could have ever imagined. You’ve pretty much turned me into a different and better person. Why wouldn’t we be good for each other?”
“You ran your mouth at cupid and hurt me. You had a dream about Lisa and hurt me. You picked up a woman and really hurt me. When your issues pop up it isn’t good for me.”
“And for each of those things I’m sorry. The dream I couldn’t really help, but I don’t like hurting you. I think every couple hurts each other sometimes though. Look at Sam and Natalie. Sam cheated on her like an idiot a while back. Then remember when we had to leave in the middle of the night because tensions got kinda high and she stomped on his feelings? Friction between two people happens. Before I met you and it was just me and Sam all the time I used to fight with him. I still loved him, and we worked things out, sometimes after some time apart. I see this as just a really big bump in the road. I’m sure we’ll fight again in the future. That doesn’t mean we’re not good for each other. It just means we’re two individual human beings.”
Liam nodded. “Okay, I get that. Opening yourself up means you get hurt sometimes. I guess it is stupid to expect smooth sailing all the time.”
“It would be nice, but it’s unrealistic. But keep in mind even on those occasions I want to choke you, I still love you.”
Liam nodded and pulled Dean in for a kiss that quickly turned heated. Liam broke contact to take off his shirt and Dean followed suit. The rest of their clothes followed and fell into a pile on the floor. Dean started nibbling the front of Liam’s throat while a hand explored his body.
Dean got up to dig in Liam’s bag for the lube, squirting some into his hand and stroking his hard cock with it. Then he climbed on the bed and slowly entered Liam while gazing into his eyes. Dean leaned down to kiss him while rocking his hips back and forth. Liam moaned and started exploring Dean’s strong back with his hands.
Dean reached to start stroking Liam’s cock while moving his mouth to just under the blond’s jaw causing Liam to whimper. Liam found one of Dean’s nipples and started to play with it, making him moan. Dean picked up the pace, his ragged breathing in Liam’s ear before he nibbled on the sensitive earlobe.
Liam pushed back into him and bit his shoulder just hard enough to cause slight pain. Liam tensed up before he came all over Dean’s hand and himself with a soft cry. Dean reclaimed his lover’s mouth and moaned as his own climax hit. Then he collapsed beside Liam, still inside him while panting heavily. “I really love you,” he breathed and stroked Liam’s hair.
“I love you too,” Liam gazed into Dean’s eyes and kissed him again before lying back and falling asleep. Dean pulled out of his lover and cleaned up their mess before snuggling close and falling asleep himself.
