Chapter Five

The next day quite a crowd had mingled around the dark grey DB7 that always sat pride of place at the front of the huge workshop that was used to display all of the vehicles both classic and new that Kristien had in her collection. Kristien wandered down from the main house with Special Agent Redwood. As she drew near all the other agents all nudged each other and cleared a path and started to disperse. The DB7 showed signs of a hell of a battle, including 50mm armour piercing calibre bullet holes, various dents, scratches. The DB7 now looked more at home in a junk yard than in a collection of expensive sports cars. It sat on a low loader ready for Aston Martin to come and collect it.

“You found out who the hell did all of this?” Kristien did not hide her pissed off voice from any one, she was furious that Hawke had been in serious danger. She dug her hands deep into Hawke’s fleece that she was wearing. She wanted to know about the post mortem on the remains of the car. Kristien had reviewed Airwolf’s recording of the crash and had counted that the DB7 had rolled over 6 times at a speed of over eighty miles an hour, creating the same G force that astronauts had in the take off in the Space Shuttle. She was glad that Hawke was as fit as he was and a Pilot, she was sure if an average person would have fared badly in the car wreck, possibly fatally.

Redwood viewed the damage personally with Carsten who just raised his eyebrows! There remained one agent who was checking out the car who had just finished up taking photographs and had various bags with tiny bits of forensic items for analysis. He was trying to slip away from Kristien when she spotted him.

“Davidson, what have you found?” Kristien asked him.

“Well from the looks of it the bullets are American, but the ballistics will tell us more.” Davidson replied sheepishly.

“What the fuck?” Kristien looked concerned. “Trace everything, I want a report in two hours gentlemen.” Kristien demanded. “And get onto Aston Martin, I want a new one building, same specs.” Kristien told them looking at the wreck, it had held up well.

“How’s Hawke?” Carsten asked hoping to divert Kristien’s attention.

“He’ll live thankfully, but if he wasn’t in this and just a normal DB7 he would be on a cloud round about now.” Kristien replied calming down. “What mission was he doing for the FIRM?”

“Something to do with Stavilav and the Minotaur.” Carsten told her.

“I want to know everything.” Kristien requested. “Get it for me, from any channel.”

“Of course.” Carsten replied knowing she meant keep out of the FIRMs way. “And Kristien.” Carsten spoke gently to her. “Don’t disappear like that again.” Carsten kept his rebuke tiny.

Kristien started to walk off. “If I had waited for you guys, String would be dead.” Kristien paused and turned to look at Carsten. “Please find out what is going on, String is keeping secrets from me and I don’t like that.”

Kristien walked into the Lodge kitchen and felt a sharp pain. She held onto the huge oak kitchen table and took some deep breaths. Alfred came from the pantry and nearly dropped the tray he was carrying on seeing Kristien struggling to stand.

“Miss Kristien.” Alfred put down the tray and ran round the table to her. He held onto her rubbing her back.

“It will pass, Alfred.” Kristien managed to say in between breaths.

“You have done far too much, far too much.” Alfred told her. “You need to rest, Miss Kristien.” Alfred continued to rub Kristien’s back for several minutes. Kristien managed to slowly stand up reasonably straight and she forced a weak smile on her face, but Alfred saw through the smile. “Come along, let’s put you up into bed.”

Alfred helped her upstairs and back to her bedroom which she shared with Hawke. She paused knowing String was in bed resting after the horrific car crash the day before, although he wasn’t badly injured he did look like a truck had run him over. “Alfred I am fine now.” Kristien told him. “I can manage.”

Alfred knew that if he helped her to the bed then Hawke would know that she was suffering probably due to her unscheduled trip out in Airwolf. Alfred opened the bedroom door and Kristien walked in and made her way over to the bed. Hawke laid with just a sheet covering his waist. His chest was badly bruised where the seatbelt had saved his life restraining him when the DB7 rolled several times. The laceration on his head was neatly stitched by her. Kristien removed her clothes and put on one of Hawke’s shirts and got into bed and put her feet on the headboard.

Hawke stirred and looked over to where Kristien was laying.

“I hope you are really upside down otherwise I reckon that I hit my head harder than I thought.” Hawke smiled at her.

“Me? I am the right way up.” Kristien giggled.

Hawke tried to join in the giggles but the bruising to his chest hurt. “Ouch, don’t make me laugh.” He told her and he moved his hand over to her and stroked her face gently.

Kristien smiled at Hawke enjoying the tender moment between them. “Does it hurt a lot? I can get you some more pain relief.”

“Nah, its ok, I can cope, you’ve done enough already.” Hawke told her and he caressed her cheek again. “How are you holding up?”

“We’re fine.” Kristien placed her hand on to her small bump. “Mind telling me who was after you yesterday?”

“I have no idea.” Hawke slowly got up and walked to the bathroom, he so desperately wanted to touch her, to make love to her despite his aches and pains, but he felt so guilty. He looked back at Kristien and her new position to ease her growing bump. “Thank you.” He told her and he walked into the bath room to splash water on to his face.

He leant up against the sink and splashed water on to his face. It felt refreshing and cleansed his skin. He looked into the mirror and watched his reflection for a moment. He still felt terribly guilty and walked over to the showers and switched them on, making sure the temperature was only luke warm. He stood underneath the shower heads allowing the luke warm water to gently wash over his aching body. He did not know how long he had spent in the shower, time seemed to pass so slowly. He finally stepped out and picked up a soft white towel and started to dry off his wet body. He grimaced when he touched the bruising from the seatbelt so stopped drying himself. He wandered back with the towel to the bedroom. Kristien had managed to fall asleep in the time that he had taken to shower. He looked at her, still laid upside down in bed, but her legs had come down from the headboard. Hawke gently laid down next to her, his hand gently went over to his shirt that she was wearing. He allowed his hand to caress her body. He undid her shirt and moved it aside, showing him her naked body underneath. At first he just gazed at her body intently, watching her breathing, watching her breasts gently move with her breathing, his eyes wandered down to her pregnant bump, he could see the baby moving, he looked further down and looked at the small snatch of hair which covered her folds of skin between her legs, that gave him so much pleasure every single time every time he entered her. Normally by this time, gazing upon Kristien’s naked body he would have an impressive erection, one you could easily hang a towel from, but he lay absorbing her beautiful body engorging on his guilt. Hawke quietly sobbed to himself knowing he had to try to find the courage to tell her how stupid he had been.

Kristien made a small groan in her sleep and her hand went down to her pregnant stomach and held it. Her faced grimaced in her sleep and then she woke up and sighed heavily, knowing she had been woken by pain again. Her eyes opened fully and she looked at Hawke, still wet from his shower. She could see that he had quietly sobbed about something that was troubling him. Kristien looked at her naked body and his, she was still half asleep but she did notice that his sexual desire towards her was strangely absent. Kristien pushed herself up and leant across his naked body and reached for a small bottle of arnica that was on the bedside table. Kristien felt his damp body on hers and gently knelt down and picked up the towel and carefully allowed the towel to gently dry his bruised chest. She then allowed a few drops of arnica onto his body and she gently allowed her fingers to work in the arnica to all of the fresh bruising. Hawke took deep relaxing breaths as Kristien worked her fingers tenderly over his bruised body. Kristien spent around thirty minutes working on Hawke’s damaged body. Happy that her task had been performed satisfactorily she lay next to him and placed her hand in his, whilst Hawke slept.

Kristien had felt Hawke’s guilt and pain from the day it appeared. Kristien was used to Hawke’s fluctuating emotions, from brooding and wallowing in self pity to happiness. He could go from either in a blink of an eye, so nothing was different.

But Kristien knew he was keeping something important from her.
