I felt the warm sunlight wash over me. I waited. Nothing happened. I shakily opened my eyes. I was still whole. I hadn’t exploded in the sunlight. I heard Sam’s shout and footsteps crunching over dead leaves and twigs. I saw Sam standing naked a few feet from me. His expression was stunned, pained and confused. I looked over myself. I was completely fine…even with the sunlight on me. Sam rushed to me and gently grabbed my shoulders. “Are you alright?” he demanded nervously also looking me over. “Yeah I’m fine,” I said in disbelief. I shakily got to my feet, unsure of why I didn’t evaporate when the sunlight hit me. Sam pulled me close in a tight embrace. As Sam’s arms encircled me, a familiar flash went across my vision. The forest vanished. I was back in the room where Sam was being held captive by the werewolves. I saw Eric. He had his fangs in my neck. I saw him do the ritual of turning someone. Eric looked up at Sam, his fangs ruby stained. “She needs more blood. She lost too much. My blood alone won’t be able to save her,” Eric was saying. I saw Sam offer his wrist out immediately. “Then take the rest from me,” he said without hesitation. Eric looked at him gravely. “The amount might kill you,” Eric said warily. “Take it Eric,” Sam said shortly. Eric nodded. Eric grabbed Sam’s wrist and sank his fangs into Sam’s wrist. I watched as Eric gently placed Sam’s wrist over my lips. The vision vanished. I was standing in Sam’s arms. I slowly looked up at Sam. “You. You gave me some of your blood along with Eric’s,” Sam’s expression faltered. “How did you know that?” he asked quietly. “I had a vision Sam. Even if I’m a vampire, I’m still getting the visions,” I said as he gently released me from his embrace. Sam sighed. “I didn’t want you to know incase I had died doing it. I wasn’t concerned with my safety at that point,” his blue eyes pierced mine. Emotions flooded me. Anger, love, warmth. I felt tears forming in my eyes. “Oh Sam,” I said quietly as I felt them streak down my cheeks. “I wish I’d met you instead of David 3 years ago. I don’t know what I did to deserve such a wonderful guy.” Sam’s face reflected emotions. He stepped closer and gently cupped my face. He kissed me softly and passionately. When we were done, we were breathless. “And I don’t know why you chose me to love when you could’ve had anyone else,” he said closing his eyes. “Like who?” I said enjoying his closeness. “Jason? Sam, bless him I love him to death, but I know his reputation. I don’t think so. Eric? Um…ew? I know he has a thing for Sookie. No Sam Merlotte. We were meant to be together. ” Sam chuckled. He wrapped his arm around me and we began heading back to the trailer. I stepped up into the trailer. I glanced to the bedroom. Emma was still out cold. Sam grabbed a pair of jeans and a blue plaid shirt. “Well,” Sam said slowly. “I think working at the bar might freak a few people out, being they’d never seen a vampire able to be in daylight before.” I grinned at him wickedly. Emma woke up a short time later. Sookie dropped off some clothes for Emma that were her’s when she was little. They’d been in her grandmother’s house’s attic. They fit Emma perfectly. She was shocked when she saw me, but was happy and hugged me again tightly. We took Emma to the bar. Sam plopped her down in a corner booth, close to the bar so he could keep a close eye on her. Lafayette cooked her up a grilled cheese, fries and an ice cream sundae. She was happily eating away. Just as Sam predicted, people were a little shocked when they saw me working normally during the daylight hours. I had pulled my blond hair up into a ponytail. Lafayette winked at me. “Girlfriend, boyfriend there has certainly taken a shine to that little girl,” he said in a knowing tone. I managed a smile but it faltered. “Yeah I know. I just wish I was able to have kids with Sam,” I said quietly. Lafayette put a hand over mine. “Honey, Sam was not thinking of that when he asked Eric to turn you. He was only interested in having you back in his life. That meant more to him than anything else,” I smiled at Lafayette and gently kissed him on the forehead. I felt him tense. “I’m not going to bite you Lafayette,” I said softly. He nodded. “I know. It’s just hard to forget,” He went back to work. I turned around and bumped into Sookie. “Oh sorry Sook,” I said softly. “It’s ok,” Sookie said brightly. She began talking with Lafayette. Sam was busy restocking the shelves behind the bar with bottles of Vodka and other liquors. I checked on Emma. She was digging into her ice cream now. As I rounded table 9, a hand reached out and grabbed my wrist. “Hey honey, my burger’s rare. I asked for well done. Get the order right next time,” a man snapped as he shoved the burger at me. I took it and looked into his eyes. They were pitch black. I swallowed and hurried over to Sam. “Sam I think we have a problem,” I said. Sam came over to the bar and I motioned to the guy. “Oh shit no,” He said swallowing. “We killed Mary Anne, the first Maenad to come into Bon Temps. Please tell me there isn’t another one hell bent on sacrificing me.” Sookie came over at that point. We motioned to the guy. She cringed. “Oh crap no,” She said sighing. “Looks like we’ve got another maenad in Bon Temps.” “Who is it Sookie? Someone in this bar?” Sam asked. I could see Sookie concentrating as she let her eyes roam over everyone in the bar. “Yeah,” Sookie said. “Look at table 3.” Our eyes moved onto a young woman with shoulder length brunette colored hair. She was eating a burger, fries, and a steak. Sookie continued to study her. After a few moments, she turned back to us. “Well it isn’t Sam she’s after. It’s a pure hearted virgin,” Sookie said. “Well thank the Lord that the ship sailed on that Sam huh?” Lafayette asked smirking. Sam playfully went to swat him but he ducked out of range. Something in my gut was telling me Emma. “It’s Emma she’s after,” I said quietly. Immediately, Sam went over to Emma and gently scooped her up in his arms. He placed her on top of the bar. Her legs dangled against it. She was sitting facing Sam. He put two hands on either side of her on the bar. At that moment the woman got up and began approaching us. Sam tensed as did Sookie and I. “Hello,” she said smoothly. “I’m Lorie Manson. I was wondering if either of you knew a great place to stay here in Bon Temps? I’m just passing through.” “There’s a place down on Ainten Road,” Sookie replied indifferently. “Oh great thank you so much,” Lorie replied. She spied Emma. “Who is this cutie?” Emma turned to look at Lorie and immediately clung to Sam. Sam wound an arm around her protectively. “She doesn’t like strangers,” Sam said watching Lorie. “Oh that’s alright. Thanks for your help,” Lorie said smiling as she turned and left the bar. “Hey! Where the fuck is my burger!?” the guy cried angrily from the table. “Yeah and the salad we ordered!” table 4 yelled. Chaos started to erupt in the bar. “Take Emma to your trailer,” I instructed Sam. He nodded and scooped her up. He left the bar. Everyone got up out of their seats and began approaching Sookie and I. “Where is the little brat, Sookie?” asked Terry Bellefleur. His eyes were entirely black. “I don’t know who you’re talking about,” Sookie replied curtly. Arlene laughed and grabbed my throat. “The little brat you and Sam Merlotte took in. Our God wants her as a sacrifice. She’d be just perfect!” I felt my fangs slide down. I hissed at Arlene. She burst out laughing. “Oh! This little vampire wants to play!” I jerked Arlene’s hand from my throat. “Back off all of you,” I snarled and bared my fangs at them. I heard Sookie cry out and turned as Andy Bellefleur hit her over the head with a bottle. She collapsed unconscious. Then they advanced on me. “Hmm. We can’t throw her out in the sunlight so how can we ensure that she doesn’t interrupt our God’s second coming?” Arlene mused. Wicked grins formed on their faces as Andy pulled out a long silver chain and wrapped it around my throat. I felt a searing burning sensation and I collapsed. Laughing hysterically, they all headed out of the bar toward Sam’s trailer. I hissed and struggled to remove the chain. I managed to move in a way that it started to slide off my neck. Finally free of the chain, I went over to Sookie. I gently, but urgently shook her. She let out a low moan and opened her eyes. “Oh god Sam!” she cried and leapt to her feet. She and I tore out of the bar. We arrived at Sam’s trailer. It was ablaze on fire. Flames shot out of the windows. Smoke rose to the sky, dark and deadly. “SAM!” I screamed and went to lunge for it, but Sookie grabbed me. “You can’t Liz! He’s gone!” Sookie cried, her voice cracking as tears began forming in her eyes. “No, SAM!” I screamed again. I dropped to my knees and hugged myself. Tears swelled in my eyes. Sookie dropped down next to me and pressed her face into my shoulder. She began sobbing too. “We got the little brat! Our God will be so pleased!” I heard Arlene’s voice cry from a section in the woods that was a clearing. Rage filled my body as I leapt to my feet and ran right for the clearing. Emma was gagged and tied to a wooden cross. She was sobbing hysterically. The entire town danced around the cross. A fire pyre was burning in the center of it. Some of the town were engaged in sexual activity, but others were drinking and laughing. Lorie was standing in front of Emma. I burst through the crowd and stood at the edge of the ring that was around Emma on the cross. My eyes were narrowed. “Get the fuck away from her you bitch,” I snarled, baring my fangs at Lorie. Lorie slowly turned around. “Oh welcome,” she said cheerfully. “You’re going to be among the precious few that witnesses our God come to earth.” I went to take a step toward her, but I felt strong arms pin them behind me. “Easy there Liz,” I heard Jason Stackhouse’s’ silky voice in my ear. “This will be amazing! It’s too bad Sam isn’t here to witness it.” I jerked violently in Jason’s grasp as the rage bubbled up again. I felt angry tears forming in my eyes. Sam was dead. I looked at Emma. She was crying hysterically as Arlene approached her with a long dagger. Lorie took it from her and poised it above Emma’s heart. Emma began screaming more, but it was muffled by the gag. I struggled against Jason’s grip, but it was no use. I turned and sank my fangs into Jason’s wrist. He cried out and his grip around my arm loosened. I went to lunge for Emma when Jason recovered and grabbed me again. At that same time, Lorie plunged the knife into Emma’s chest. Sookie and I screamed at the same time. Emma’s body went limp against the ropes around her wrist. Her eyes fluttered closed. Blood flowed from the wound. Lorie slowly pulled the knife out of Emma’s chest and laughed. “Our God comes!” she cried raising the knife. Everyone cheered. Sookie was limp in her captor’s grip, her head hung low. I could hear her sobbing. Blind rage began filling my body. As I blinked and looked around, I could see she’d erected some kind of rotten meat statue. It looked as though it had taken a few days to erect. Lorie turned to me. “And she will be our second sacrifice. Vampire blood is very powerful,” Lorie said as she approached me. I hissed and wanted to badly to sink my fangs into her throat. Over Lorie’s shoulder, I saw a white bull approaching. Several members of the crowd began quieting down. Lorie spied the white bull and bowed. “My Lord. There will be a vampire blood in your honor. I’ve already sacrificed a pure virgin,” She gushed motioning to Emma’s lifeless body on the cross. I saw the bull stomp angrily. Lorie took that as a sign of impatience. Lorie turned and smirked at me. She plunged the dagger into my chest. In the same instant, I heard the thundering of hooves. I saw Lorie’s expression of shock and surprise. The knife hilt protruded from my chest. SOOKIE I recognized Sam as the Bull. He’d charged Lorie. One of his long horns pushed through her back, and the tip poked through her chest. He violently shook his head. The horn pushed up into her chest cavity more. She was smiling. A few moments later, Sam had appeared in his human form, nude with his hand into Lorie’s chest. He pulled her heart out, as he’d done to Mary Anne. Lorie dropped dead. The rest of the town’s eyes returned to normal. The person holding me released me. I rushed over to Liz. She was looking at me. I picked up Sam’s thoughts. Oh God Liz! He spied her and came over. “Oh God,” he said cupping her face in his hands. I sensed Bill behind me. I turned and hugged him. “Can you help Liz?” I sobbed into his chest. Bill exhaled loudly. “She will have to drink from either you or Sam. I cannot bite. She has to bite on her own.” Sam immediately held out his wrist to Bill. Bill nodded He gently pulled out the knife, causing Liz to collapse to her knees in a heap. Sam sank with her with his arms around her. Her head rested against his shoulder, in the crook of his arm. “Bite me Liz,” he whispered to her. Liz’s fangs slid down and she sank them into Sam’s wrist. We watched as she drank. Sam winced, but he didn’t move. Suddenly, Liz’s body began convulsing. “What’s going on?” Sam demanded watching Liz anxiously and nervously. Liz collapsed on the ground, not moving. Sam hovered above Liz. Bill went to her as well. I watched anxiously and worriedly. I saw Bill put two fingers to Liz’s neck. He slowly raised his eyes to mine. “Liz has a pulse,” he said slowly. I could see confusion and shock on his face. Sam remained hovered above Liz, cupping her face in his hands. “Oh God Liz wake up please,” Sam pleaded pressing his forehead against Liz’s. “I—I don’t understand,” I said slowly. “What does that mean?” Bill looked from Sam to me. “She’s alive,”
