Chapter 6—I Chose You
I don’t know when Pan finally got off of me. At some point we had both fallen asleep, his arm around me protectively. A rapist and a cuddler. I woke up the next morning to birds chirping and the sounds of the boys in the camp waking up.
Pan wasn’t awake, or at least I didn’t think he was, and he had rolled over his arm no longer around me. With the exception of my restrained hands…I was free.
Pushing all thoughts of what Pan might do to me if he caught me again I decided to once again try to escape. Pan had left the dagger on the ground and I quietly picked it up, awkwardly freeing my arms.
I didn’t run, I attempted to sneak quietly out of the camp before doing that. I made it out of Pan’s camp and started running toward the beach.
All of a sudden my chest began to ache. Too much running, I thought. I stopped to rest but the pain didn’t subside, it got worse. A throbbing pain shot through my body, originating at my heart. I fell over, writhing in agony.
Through my pain-blurred vision I saw Pan hovering over me. He knew everything that happened on his island, I was stupid to think I was so clever.
“Hurts doesn’t it?” There was that stupid smirk again. I could barely think straight, let alone answer him. “That’s what happens when you try to run, if you had gotten much farther it would have given out completely.” He picked me up and threw me over his shoulder, taking me back to camp. When we got within the area that he claimed as his own the pain subsided.
“You can only leave if I’m with you. Security measures to prevent you from running. Obviously not put in place in vain.”
He didn’t retie me. He didn’t have to, we both knew I wouldn’t try to run again. The pain I had felt was beyond excruciating, and I didn’t know if Pan would always come to my rescue.
“How did I get here?” I asked him. I was sitting on a log beside the remains of the fire from last night. I was so confused. I would be starting school today if I hadn’t shown up here.
Pan smiled, “Well the traditional route is second star to the right, and straight on ‘till morning.”
He wasn’t funny, and I didn’t laugh.
“And I’m sure that’s how he brought you.” he sat next to me and began kissing my neck. “My shadow brought you here.” He murmured into my ear.
“But why?” I asked him, trying to conceal the tingle running down my spine from his kisses.
“Because I wanted you. I chose you.”
He was still kissing my neck when Felix cleared his throat in front of us.
“Peter, something is happening on the water. The mermaids are in fits.”
“Thank you Felix, watch her please.” Pan left to see what was happening.
Felix glared at me, apparently unhappy with his semi-permanent role as my guard.
“So Pan wanted you huh? He chose you. That’s not good for you.” He said.
“And why is that?” I asked, afraid of the answer.
“Because Pan always gets what he wants, and last night was just the beginning of what he wants.” For the first time since I met him, Felix smiled.
This was definitely not going to be good for me.
