The next day we set about loading up for the journey, thankfully we worked out that I could still fit my bike beside Merle’s without taking my saddle bags off. I was helping Daryl load the bike’s onto the back of the truck while Anna was putting my petrol in her tank. “There!” said in triumph once the bike’s where loaded and strapped on. “Oh erm....” I said looking around as I realised that I was now standing on the back of the truck blocked in by the bikes. “Just jump off.” Daryl said moving round to the side of the truck and watching me. “Oh erm... Ok.”I said as I placed one foot on the raised edge of the back before jumping down, but managed to land badly and stumbled into Daryl who had grabbed me to stop from falling. “Sorry.” I said Righting myself. “Bloody weak ankles.” I mumbled blushing like hell and avoiding his glaze. “You alright?” he asked a small hint of amusement in his voice. “Yer I’m fine... just yer...” I answered stepping out of his grip and throwing my bag in the passenger side seat of the truck.
Once everything was loaded we gathered around as Shane briefed the group for the journey “alright everyone, listen up. Those of you with CBs we’re gonna be on channel 40. Let’s keep the chatter down ok? Now you got a problem, don’t have CBs, can’t get a signal, anything at all. You’re gonna hit your horn one time, that will stop the caravan. Any questions?” Morales hesitantly spoke up “we’re err... we’re not going.” Maranda continued “we have family in Birmingham. We wanna be with our people.” Shane looked worried as he said “you’re on your own, you won’t have anyone to watch your back.” Morales answered “we’ll take that chance. I gotta do what’s best for my family.” Rick looked him in the eye as he asked “you sure?” Morales nodded as he said “we talked about it, we’re sure.” “Alright...” Rick said before shifting his gaze to Shane “Shane.” “Yer.” Shane said taking out a gun and some ammo “box is half full.” he said as he and Rick gave them to Morales. People said their goodbyes to Morales and his family before Shane called out “come on! Let’s go! Move out!” I jumped in the truck with Daryl. Anna was on her bike behind us as we all set off in a convoy.
As we drove along I watched the scenery go past the passenger window for a long while I was silent just appreciating how green and beautiful it was. Then I turned to Daryl saying “you’re lucky, you know.” “Really? How’d you come up with that?” he said and scoffed not taking his eyes away from the road. “You grew up surrounded by so much green... I would have loved that... you don’t get much wilderness and stuff where I’m from... but we used to have a small woods by where I grew up... I spent most of my time in there trying to get lost... just for a little while...” I trailed off smiling and went back to looking out the window as I remembered the amount of times I went off the path and explore but would always end up coming up at a fence or another path. “And did you?” he asked surprising me. “Did I what?” I asked puzzled looking at him. “Get lost?” he said shooting me a look. “Oh no...” I laughed “it was too small to get lost in... even from the deepest part you could still hear traffic... but I did end up knowing it like the back of my hand.” I smiled at him. We let the conversation drift away.
A little while later the convoy started to stop. Daryl frowned out the window. “What’s wrong?” I asked looking to him “probably that damm hose.” He answered getting out the truck “back in a few.” And then he walked to the front of the convoy as Anna pulled up beside my window. “What’s happening?” she asked once level with my window. “Daryl recons it’s the hose on the RV... he’s gone to check.” Anna took off her bike lid. “Fairy muff.” She said a cheeky grin starting to form on her face. “So... how’s the ride going?” she asked taking a quick look to make sure Daryl wasn’t within ear shot. “Fine...” I said grinning, I was wondering how long it would take before she asked. “So you gotten over your little slip this morning then?” she mocked. I hid my face with my hand still smiling as I answered “no!” I laughed again “I swear I wanted the ground to swallow me up, my bloody damsel ankles playing up. If I ever get chased I’m just gonna walk fast otherwise I’ll be that dumb bitch who trips over thin air.” Me and Anna both laughed the idea of that because we both knew it was true. We carried on talking light-heartedly until Daryl came back. “Everything alright?” Anna asked “the hose is sorted but Jim’s asked to be left here.” He replied. We walked to the front of the convoy in time to see Shane and Rick rest Jim against a tree on the bank at the side of the road. We all took turns saying our goodbyes to Jim. Daryl went before me not saying anything just nodding to him. Anna came with me to say just a simple goodbye to Jim adding that we would have liked to know him better. Then we all got back into our vehicles and after a few moments we set off again.
Leaving Jim had left us all in a sombre mood so I just looked out the window until I fell asleep. I woke up to Daryl gently shaking my shoulder he waited till I opened my eyes before he spoke “we’re here.” We grabbed our bags and headed for the entrance with the others, taking our weapons to hand as we went. It was already getting dark and my adrenaline was picking up as it occurred to me that if we were left out here we’d be in big trouble. It looked like a war zone, bodies lying everywhere, we had to walk between more than a few. The sound of flies buzzing was the only sound that filled the air and the smell was overpowering. Once we reached the door Shane started to bang on the shutters. “There’s no-one here” T-Dog said voicing my own thoughts. “Then why are the shutters down?” Rick asked. “Walkers!” Daryl called, we turned to see him shoot a zombie through the head before turning on Rick yelling “you led us to a graveyard!” “He made a call!” Shane yelled back. “It was the wrong damm call!” Daryl yelled back at him. Shane shoved Daryl back yelling “just shut up, shut up!” before turning to Rick and calmly saying “Rick this is a dead end.” Some of the group had started to get upset or panic by this point. “Where we gonna go?” Carol asked. Shane was still talking to Rick “do you hear me? No blame.” “She’s right, we can’t be this close to the city after dark.” Laurie said looking to Rick for answers. “Fort Benning, Rick. Still an option.” Shane suggested. “On what? No fuel. No food. That’s a hundred miles.” Andrea argued. “A hundred and twenty five. I checked a map.” Glenn added. “We need answers tonight. Now.” Laure said. “We’ll think of something.” Rick said trying to stay calm. Shane started herding people back towards the cars. Daryl put his hand on my lower back as we started to head for the truck mumbling “this was a damm stupid idea to begin with.” I just nodded in agreement as Shane was saying to Rick “come on, let’s go.” We’d only took a few steps when we heard Rick say “the camera. It moved.” We stopped as Dale said “You imaged it.” “It moved... it moved” Rick mumbled to himself. “It’s dead man. It’s an automated device. It’s gear, okay? They’re just winding down” Shane tried to persuade him. Rick started to bang on the shutters again saying “I know you’re in there. I know you can hear me. Please we’re desperate. Please help us. We have women and children. No food. Hardly any gas left. We have nowhere else to go. Please! If you don’t let us in you’re killing us!” “Come on buddy, let’s go” Shane said pulling on Rick and signalling the rest to head back to the cars. “Please help us! You’re killing us! You’re killing us! You’re killing us!” Rick was yelling as Shane pulled him away. Suddenly we heard movement from the shutters and they started to rise reviling a blinding white light in the darkness.
We quickly but cautiously entered the building “Daryl, you cover the back.” Shane called. “Hello?... Hello?” Rick called to the room before adding to the group “watch those doors.” “Watch for walkers” Dale added. “Hello?” Rick called out again. We heard a gun get cocked and turned to see where it came from. We saw a man wearing a white t-shirt with short blond hair and he was pointing the gun at us. “Anybody infected?” he called to us. Rick answered “one of our group was. He didn’t make it.” “Why are you here? What do you want?” the man asked moving closer. “A chance.” Rick answered. “That’s asking an awful lot these days.” The man said not unkindly. “I know.” Rick said sympathetically. The man took a few moments as he weighed up our group before he spoke again “you all submit to a blood test. That’s the price of admission.” He stated. “We can do that.” Rick answered. “You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once this door closes, it stays closed.” he said lowering his gun and coming closer still. A few of the group ran to retrieve our stuff. Once every one was back the man headed for the panel on the wall saying “Vi, seal the main entrance. Kill the power up here.” Rick walked over to the man holding out his hand to shake stating his name. “Dr. Edwin Jenner.” He replied shaking Rick’s hand.
“Follow me.” Jenner said walking away. We ended up getting into an elevator, myself, Daryl and Anna where at the back. It was a bit of a tight fit with all of us and Anna had masterfully managed to put me between her and Daryl with a wink. “Sorry... I... erm...” I mumbled as I was pushed against Daryl. My face started to blush as I felt his body against mine and something that was close to his crotch pressing against my stomach. It’s properly just his belt I repeated in my mind. I sneaked a quick look up at him and saw for a few seconds the look of shock on his face before he looked away towards Jenner and asking “doctors always go around packing heat like that?” “There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough.” Jenner answered before adding to Carl “except you. I’ll have to keep my eye on you.” Jenner joked. No-one really said anything else until we had gotten out of the lift and where walking along a corridor. “Are we underground?” Carol asked. “Are you claustrophobic?” Jenner inquired. “A little.” Carol replied. “Try not to think about it.” Jenner said.
We ended up in a large round room, with a couple of computers and a huge screen. “Vi, bring up the lights in the big room.” Jenner said as we entered the room. “Welcome to zone 5.” He said addressing the group. “Where is everybody? The other doctors, the staff?” Rick asked. “I’m it. It’s just me here.” Jenner answered. “What about the person you were speaking with? Vi?” Laurie asked. Jenner gave a small smile before he said “Vi, say hello to our guests. Tell them welcome.” A female automated voice played through the room “hello guests. Welcome.” “I’m all that’s left. I’m sorry.” Jenner finished sadly. After that we headed to a different room for the blood tests. They were over quickly and surprisingly I didn’t faint. Then we headed to what I could have only guessed to be the kitchen/dining area, were Jenner was kind enough to share his food with us and even shared some wine and spirits.
The addition of alcohol lifted our spirits somewhat and pretty soon we were joking around, leading to Carl getting to try wine for the first time. “There you are, young lad.” Dale said placing a plastic glass in front of Carl. We all waited to see what his reaction would be. “Eww!” he said after a sip placing the glass back on the table as the rest of just started laughing. “That’s my boy.” Laurie was saying pouring the wine into her own glass. “That tastes nasty.” Carl complained. “Well just stick to sour pop there, bud.” Shane said to him. “Not you Glenn!” Daryl said causing Glenn to give a worried “what?” “Keep drinking, little man. I want to see how red your face can get.” Daryl said laughing. “Hey you keep drinking, I want to see if you can keep up with us.” Anna said to Daryl. “Hell yer I can!” Daryl said “I could easily out drink you two.” He finished taking another swig from his bottle of southern comfort. “You sure about that?” I said with a mischievous smile before downing the last third of our own bottle of southern comfort and slamming it down on the table in Victory while Anna burst out with laughter, I joined her when I saw the looks of shock on Glenn and Daryl’s faces. “It seems to me we haven’t thanked our host properly.” Rick said standing up. “He is more than just our host.” T-Dog said raising his glass. “Here here!” Dale agreed just before Daryl said “here’s to you, doc, booyah!” leading to a few more booyahs from others including myself and Anna though our giggles. As the laughter died down Shane spoke “So when are you gonna tell us what happened here doc? All the... the other doctors that were supposed to be figuring out what happened. Where are they?” “We’re celebrating, Shane. Don’t need to do this now.” Rick scolded. Shane carried on talking “whoa, wait a second. This is why we’re here right? This was your move... supposed to find all the answers. Instead we... we found him. Found one man. Why?” “Well, when things got bad a lot of people just left, went off to be with their families and when things got worse, When the military got overrun, the rest bolted.” Jenner answered. “Every last one?” Shane asked. “No, many couldn’t face walking out the door. They...opted out. There was a rash of suicides. That was a bad time.” Jenner finished. “You didn’t leave. Why?” Andrea asked. “I just kept working. Hoping to do some good.” Jenner explained. “Dude, you are such a buzz kill, man.” Glenn directed at Shane. None of us where really in the mood to carry one celebrating as a group anymore so Jenner showed us to where we’d be spending the night, explaining about the power and hot showers.
After I got showered and dressed into a pair of jeans and a tight white tank top then I headed back down to the kitchen and grabbed another two bottles of southern comfort. “Hey!” I called to Anna when I arrived back in our room “you mind if I just pop out for a while tonight?” I asked her trying to sound as casual as possible. “Pop out where?” she asked even though she clearly already knew the answer. “Oh just to see Daryl... I’m guessing he could use the company.” I said biting my bottom lip to stop myself from grinning. Anna just laughed as she said “go on then!” I handed her one of the bottles I’d taken “thank you! Oh and if you tell anyone your dead!” I joked as I exited the room.
I snuck down the hall way and quietly rapped on the door to Daryl’s room. There were a few moments of silence before I heard him say “come in.” I slipped into the room. “Hey... I... erm... I... brought you this!” I stammered before holding out the bottle to him feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. Daryl just gave a small laugh as he walked over to me and closed the door then he took the bottle from me before leaning against the closed door and taking a swing from it. “Oh I erm...” I stuttered not knowing what to do. “Don’t you want to join me?” he asked looking a little unsure now and took another drink from the bottle. “No! I mean yes... I mean... yes I’d love to.” I answered letting out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in and giving him a reassuring smile. “That is if you want me to join you?” I asked him nervously. “yer.” He said while watching me, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed before handing me the bottle and leading me by the hand to the couch that was in the room. I took a drink once we’d sat down. “So...” I said trying to think of something to say. “Yer?” Daryl asked taking the bottle from me. “Erm... I was kind of just stalling till I could think of something to say.” I said with a laugh. “And did you think of anything?” he asked, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “No... well yes but none of it matters... oh god! I think this apocalypse had turned me into a light-weight.” I said though giggles. “I don’t think you’ the only one.” Daryl said with a small laugh taking another drink. “Well I did down a third of a bottle more than you!” I said turning towards him and reaching for the bottle, Daryl held it away from me. “Then let me catch up!” he said before taking a couple of gulps from the bottle. “Hey! Save me some!” I joked as I reached for the bottle again but Daryl let go too fast and I spilt some on my top. “Fuck’s sake.” I laughed trying to wipe if off adding “it’s my own fault for wearing a white top.” I stopped laughing when I saw Daryl was trying his hardest not to stare at my chest. “Daryl?” I asked, his gaze snapped to my face and a slight blush crept into his cheeks. “Have you got a top I can borrow? Just to save me goin back to my room... you can have it back tomorrow.” I asked feeling the heat rising in my own cheeks. “Erm... yer.” He said reaching for one and handing it to me “sorry it’s not clean...” he added. I just smiled as I said “that’s fine.” I stood up adding “but you’ll have to close your eyes coz it’s soaked though to the skin.” Before removing my top and bra, I was just about to put on Daryl’s t-shirt when I felt his hands come up my sides and his breath on my neck. I let Daryl’s top fall from my hands as my breathing became heavier and I started to feel that familiar ache between my legs. “I’ll stop if you want.” He whispered in my ear with just a hint of nervousness. “No....” I said breathlessly, leaning against him and feeling the budge in his pants press against my lower back as his hands rose to my breasts and rubbed his thumbs over my hard nipples. “You sure?” Daryl asked his voice husky and had a slight quiver to it. I turned in his arms until I was facing him. “I’m sure...I want you, Daryl.” I answered looking him in the eyes before leaning up and meeting his lips with my own.
The kiss quickly became urgent, Daryl meeting my need with his own, his hand cupping the cheeks if my bum as I entwined my fingers through his hair pulling him closer. “Oh god...” I moaned with my head back in pleasure as he broke off the kiss to make his own trail of kisses, nips and sucks down my neck. He gave a slight growl as I dug my nails into his hips to pull him closer as I let out yet another moan. He stepped back and guided me to lie down in the couch. I set about removing my jeans and panties as I watched him switch out the light and then do the same with his pants and boxers before he came back and positioned himself above me. I could feel his hard cock brush against my stomach when he continued the kiss with hunger. “Yes?” he broke off the kiss to ask me once he’s positioned the tip of his cock at my opening, there was a vulnerable look in his eyes as he asked. “Yes.” I moaned pulling him back into the kiss. With a gentle thrust he entered me making both of us let out a small moan. He started off slowly gradually building up his speed, faster and faster, harder and harder, until my head was spinning and I knew I was close to cumming. “Oh...Daryl...don’t stop...I’m so close...” I moaned out gripping his shoulders like they were a life raft, the only thing stopping me from drowning. My moans were becoming more frequent and louder even though I was trying to hold them in. Then with one last moan I came shuddering. Within a few seconds I heard Daryl let out a small moan as with one final thrust he came inside me. I let myself smile as Daryl planted one last kiss on my lips before lying beside me. “Wow...” I said breathlessly as I rested my head on his chest still smiling. “Yer...” Daryl said sounding out of breath, wrapping his arms around me before adding “stay here tonight.” It seemed like we was trying to make it an order but couldn’t get rid of the hint of vulnerability that gave him away. “Ok.” I said placing a kiss on his chest just at that moment realising that he hadn’t taken his top off. So that’s how we fell asleep, entwined in one together in nothing but a top between us with Daryl’s seed slowly seeping out of me through the night.
