Three weeks passed. Every day Natalie had Liam go out to a field for target practice. Every day he got a little bit better. She only let him practice for two hours at a time though. The rest of the time was spent resting. He’d go for target practice after breakfast, then he’d take a pain pill and relax on the couch in front of the TV. He made very good use of the Netflix account Natalie had set up for him.
Dean called as often as he could. He would tell Liam about the cases they were working on, and Liam would tell him about how much better his target practice went that day. Dean was proud of him, and very happy he hadn’t put a toe out of line since the day he left.
Then one afternoon the Impala pulled up the driveway and out came Dean, John, and Bobby. Liam answered the door and his eyes went wide at the sight of John. “What’s going on?” he asked nervously.
“Sam’s gone,” Dean answered, deep worry in his voice.
“What? Gone?” Liam blinked. “What happened?”
“I don’t know,” Dean shook his head. “We stopped at a cafe the other night and I sent him in for food. Next thing I know the radio is going all funny. I looked up and nobody was inside anymore. I went in, and everyone who was in there was dead, except for Sam, he was just gone. I found sulfur on the door. You know what that means.”
“Demon,” Liam said the word out loud.
Dean nodded. “Look, I’m bringing everyone together on this. Don’t worry about Dad, he promised not to hurt you.” He looked around at all the men. “Guys, I don’t care about our personal feelings for one another right now. We can all agree we care for Sam, and we want to get him back.”
John and Bobby nodded in agreement. Natalie came in and they explained what happened to her. “I’m helping in any way I can,” she said looking determined.
They all stood in a circle on the porch. “Who knows what?” Dean asked.
“I know there hasn’t been a lick of demonic activity anywhere in the past month,” Bobby said.
“But, that doesn’t make any fucking sense!” Dean cried.
“I know, and it doesn’t help us any,” Bobby sighed.
“I know a bit more,” John offered. “Actually, a lot more.”
Dean stared at him expectantly. “Well, Dad, then spill! Share with the class for fucks sake!”
John sighed with his hands on his hips looking down. “I didn’t wanna say anything to you boys. I thought I could stop it before anything happened, but I guess not. Dean, Sam was chosen.”
“Chosen? Chosen for what, to join the fucking circus?”
“Something like that. The thing that killed your mother, it did the same to other families. Always on the child’s six month birthday. It’s got something big planned, I just don’t what. Whatever the hell it is, it looks like it’s starting now.”
“Gee, Dad, thanks for telling us before my brother disappeared into thin air!”
“I’ve seen this before,” Liam said. “Jason and I worked a case that started just like this. Some boss was starting an army and needed a commander. Twenty people disappeared, only a few at a time. They were pitted against each other until there was only one survivor, then it would start all over again.”
“What was that demon after?” John asked, his eyes narrowing.
“I don’t know,” Liam shook his head. “We found the demon and killed it. It was too powerful to capture and interrogate, or we would have.”
John raised an eyebrow. “If it was too powerful to trap and interrogate, how did you kill it?”
Liam went inside the house, grabbed the sword out of his bag, and went back out with it. “With this.”
John tried to snatch it, but Liam pulled it back. “That’s… Male a Daemonio...” John’s eyes were wide in surprise. “How the hell did you get that? I thought that was only legend or long lost.”
Liam shrugged. “Jason got his hands on it before he met me and wouldn’t share the details.”
“Would one of you like to fill the rest of us in?” Dean asked.
“Ancient Rome’s version of the Colt,” Liam said. “But much much older. Dean, this is why I left for Vermont that day. Alice came to me in a dream and told me I would need it. I’m betting this is what for.”
“Super,” Dean sighed. “Okay, so this has happened before. Do you know where these contests were taking place?”
“Cold Oak, South Dakota.”
“That’s something. Let’s go there.”
“I’m coming!” Natalie insisted. “Just give me a minute to gather some things.”
Liam grabbed his bag so he was ready to go. “If this pans out I might like you a little more,” John said to him.
Liam shot back a little glare. “I didn’t spit all that information out to gain your approval. I did it to help Sam, who, whether or not you believe it, I care about.”
Natalie came out with her bag and they all five piled in the car and they raced to South Dakota. Since Bobby was the only one who knew exactly where the ghost town was, he sat up front and navigated. It was dark when they pulled into a little clearing by a path that led into the woods. “I guess the rest of the way is on foot,” Bobby said as they got out.
Dean opened up the trunk and they each pulled out a gun, even Natalie. The five of them marched up the path. When they were getting close Dean started calling out for Sam. When they got to the town they saw him running toward them. Then suddenly a black guy in a military uniform ran up behind Sam with a knife. “Sam, look-” Dean started to yell.
A shot came from behind him and struck the soldier in the shoulder. The soldier fell, then got up and ran away. Dean turned to see Liam with his recently fired 9mm trained on the spot the soldier stood. “Liam, you told me you were improving, but damn...”
Liam shrugged. “I was aiming for his chest, but I’ll take it,” he said as he lowered the weapon.
“I told you those were some damn good hunting reflexes,” Bobby smiled.
Sam reached them and stood in front of Liam. “Liam, I think you just saved my life. Thanks, man,” he said as he hugged the blond. Then he turned to Natalie. “Natalie, what are you doing here?”
“I was worried about you, you big dope,” she said as she threw herself into his arms and kissed him. His eyes widened, but he pulled her close and kissed her back.
“How do you feel about having a mind reader in the family?” Dean said to John.
Sam pulled away from Natalie and looked at everyone standing there. “Here’s a group of people I never thought I’d see all in the same place at once.”
“They all came together for you, little brother,” Dean smiled as he too pulled Sam into a hug. “Feel special.”
“I do,” Sam said as he pulled back. “But Dean, Yellow Eyes, he-”
“We know,” Dean cut him off. “Dad told us some. Liam filled in the rest because something like this has happened before while he was with Jason. What we don’t know is what it’s after because last time they managed to kill the sucker before it did much of anything.”
“Is that how you found me?” Sam asked.
Liam nodded. “The last demon used this same place. Only when Jason and I got here, all we found were bodies. I’m glad we got here in time and found you alive.”
“Me too,” Sam smiled. “I don’t know what it wants either. It just said I was chosen along with a bunch of others, but there could only be one winner. It said something about getting an army soon, and it wanted me to lead them.”
“That’s about what we already knew,” Dean nodded.
“We need to get out of here,” Bobby said. “Let’s go back to my place and figure this mess out.”
They all turned to head back down the trail. John put his hand on Liam’s shoulder. “You saved my son’s life. I guess you’re really not so bad.”
“Awesome,” Liam sighed. “Does this mean you’re going to lighten up about your other son being in love with me? Cuz I’d really appreciate it if you stopped trying to kill me.”
“I still don’t like it,” John said sternly. “But you’ve proven yourself to be an asset.”
“Yeah, you don’t do too bad when you put your head in the game,” Dean smiled and pulled Liam close, grabbing his ass.
They all climbed back in the car. Sam had to sit in the back with Natalie on his lap. Dean drove to Bobby’s and they went inside. “Let’s all get some rest and take this up again in the morning,” Bobby said. “I think I’ve got an air mattress somewhere.”
“Liam and I claim the guest bedroom!” Dean called out. “What? I haven’t seen him in three weeks. I wanna cuddle my man in private.”
“If Natalie doesn’t mind, she and I can take the air mattress,” Sam said.
Natalie gave him a little smile. “No, I don’t mind.”
“I guess that leaves me with the couch,” John sighed.
Dean and Liam grabbed their bags and headed up to the bedroom. As soon as the door was closed behind them Dean turned to his mate, pinning him against the door and laying one hell of a kiss on him. “After not seeing you for three weeks and the last few days I’ve had, I want sex.”
“Is that why you brought me along?” Liam raised an eyebrow.
“Not entirely. I wanted to put you to the test, and you passed with flying colors. Not only did you know where my brother was, you were the only one quick enough to shoot that son of a bitch who tried to kill him. We owe his life to you, and I’ll never forget that. Getting to sleep with you is a bonus.”
Liam smiled and passionately kissed Dean. “Get out of those clothes and sit on the bed.”
Dean quickly did as told. Liam slipped out of his clothes and grabbed the lube bottle, climbing onto the bed by Dean. He squirted a generous amount of lube into his hand and reached out to stroke Dean’s half hard cock. “What are you doing?” Dean asked.
“Mixing things up a little.”
When Dean was fully hard and slicked up Liam raised himself so he was standing over Dean. Then he lowered himself down and impaled himself on his partner’s cock with his hands on his shoulders to keep him steady. He sat for a moment looking into Dean’s eyes. “A hunting partner you can screw at the end of the day really is the best isn’t it?” he smiled.
“Yes, it is,” Dean smirked and leaned in to kiss Liam again.
Liam started moving himself up and down, angling Dean’s cock so it hit the right spot. Dean moaned into his mouth and put his hands on his sides, fingers digging into soft flesh. Liam reached to start stroking himself and Dean grabbed a handful of hair and yanked Liam’s head back to expose the front of is throat. He liked up the front of the blond’s neck before starting to suck on the side just where Liam liked it. Liam whimpered and started fucking himself a little faster. “God, I love you,” Dean breathed.
Liam claimed Dean’s mouth again, holding him close. Dean grabbed Liam and flipped them around, slamming him into the bed on his back and really pounding into him. Liam cried out in pleasure and closed his eyes. “Open them,” Dean demanded.
When Liam opened his eyes Dean was staring right into them. Those green eyes glazed over in pleasure never looked away and minutes later Dean slammed hard into him as his orgasm hit him. Liam wasn’t far behind, crying out as the intense pleasure washed over him in waves and white hot goo spilled out between them.
Dean collapsed on the bed panting heavily, pulling Liam close. “I love looking into those eyes,” Dean said as he kissed his mate tenderly. “They say eyes are the windows to the soul, and yours is so beautiful.”
Liam smiled and ran a hand through Dean’s hair. Before he could say anything there was a knock at the door and the door opened as John stepped in. “Oh, Jesus...”
“Dad...” Dean growled as they both scrambled to get under the covers. “What do you want? This sure as hell better not be some kind of crazy mood swing.”
“It’s not, I just wanted to talk. And I did knock this time.”
“But you didn’t give us a chance to tell you to wait a minute,” Dean sighed as he grabbed his dirty boxers off the floor and started cleaning up Liam’s mess. “What did you want to talk about? Lucky for you we’re both in good moods now.”
“The two of you.” He raised his hand to stop Dean from saying whatever he was about to. “Just let me speak my mind, then you can comment. I had a real problem when I first walked I in on you two. I was enraged at the thought of you doing something like that with a vampire. You know me, the job is always cut and dried. I really thought he was just playing you for some reason, so I took him from you, and I treated him very poorly.”
“That’s a fucking understatement,” Dean growled. “You tortured him.”
“Let me finish. I realize now I was wrong. Liam, there must have been something different about you for you to truly want to be human again. At least part of what happened was my fault, and I’m sorry. And Liam, me trying to kill you after you were human, that was nothing personal. I was trying to save my son’s soul.”
“We know that, Dad, but trying to take away what I loved too much to let go of in the first place, that was a stupid move. It’s a really bad situation, I know, but if he wasn’t here and Sam had died tonight, I probably would’ve done the same thing for him. There are very few people in this world who I love and that love me. I can’t deal with losing any of them. As much as I don’t wanna die, if it becomes them or me, I’ll choose me every time.”
John gave his son a small smile. “Dean, if Sam had died tonight you’d have to get in line behind me for that. I get how you feel. I don’t always show it, but I love you boys more than anything. I know it’s not an easy life I’ve led you into, and I do want you both to be happy. I can’t say it sits well with me that you’ve chosen to find happiness with another man...”
“I didn’t choose it,” Dean sighed. “It just happened like that. Because I’ve always wanted to be just like you I fought it hard at first. But then I said fuck it, if there’s a chance for a little happiness I need to grab onto it for dear life. I took the plunge and I don’t regret it.”
John nodded. “I’m glad you’re happy. I came in here to say I’m going to try and be happy for you. As much as I hate that it’s a man, I can’t deny you’ve got yourself a good one. Jason Walker was a legend in his time, and I’m sure he trained you well, Liam. The way you shot that son of a bitch who was after Sam before any of us could react, those were some good instincts and reaction time. Something like that only comes from years of hunting with the best, and your old lover was definitely the best. I think this was meant to be.”
“Thanks,” Liam gave John a little nod. It seemed things were going to be okay after all. He reached for his phone and started playing ‘I’ll Stand by You’ by The Pretenders.
“You fucking brat!” Dean laughed and pulled Liam in for a kiss. “Dad, could you leave us now,” Dean pulled away just long enough to speak. “I feel round two coming on.”
John gave a disgusted look. “How you two can do what you do… where you do it...”
“You should give it a try sometime,” Liam smirked. “A prostate is a wonderful thing.”
“No thanks,” John said as he turned and walked out the door, closing it behind him. “I’d rather be celibate.”
When he got downstairs Sam and Natalie were on the air mattress making out. “God, is there something in the water?” John shook his head and lowered himself on the couch.
“What?” Sam shrugged. “We were just kissing.”
“Yeah, but I was up with your brother and Liam, and romance is in the air it seems. Though, they’re doing a lot more than kissing… again...”
Sam laughed. “Them doing that is why we got separate rooms on the road, Dad. I can’t blame them really, if I had a willing partner and some privacy...”
“I really don’t wanna know. Just get some sleep. We’ve got work to do in the morning.”
Sam shrugged and he and Natalie made themselves comfortable snuggled up against each other and tried to sleep.
In the morning Natalie got up and made breakfast for everyone. They ate and then stood around a map on the kitchen table. “Okay, now what do we know?” Dean asked.
“Demonic activity shot way the hell up last night,” Bobby said. “Lightning storms, cattle deaths, it’s fucking everywhere, except here,” he pointed to a spot in southern Wyoming. “It’s almost like they’re gathered around that spot.”
“We gotta find out what’s there,” Sam said. “I’m on it.” He hopped right on Bobby’s ancient computer and started doing research. They waited for him to come back. “Okay, so there’s five churches in that area all built by Samuel Colt that are connected by railway lines.”
John grabbed a map of Wyoming and laid it out. “Mark them on the map.”
Sam drew little dots where each church was and John took the marker and connected the dots to make a pentagram. “Looks like he was trying to keep them out of there,” Bobby said.
“Or keep something in,” Liam commented. “Iron rail lines laid out like that would do it.”
“Sam, did you find out what was in the center?” Dean asked.
“Yeah, it’s just an old cowboy cemetery. I don’t know what they would want there.”
“I don’t know either,” Liam shook his head. “But now we know why the demon needs a human for its army.”
“Yeah,” Sam sighed. “A demon can’t cross those rail lines. A human can get in there and get whatever it is. If Jake survived that shoulder shot...”
“Then it’s settled,” Dean nodded. “We go there and find out what the hell is so important. Yellow Eyes might even show his ugly face. Dad, you’ve got the Colt, right?”
“About that,” John frowned. “About a week ago three demons got the drop on me, and they took it. I barely managed to get out of that scrape alive.”
“Great!” Dean through his hands up.
“I’ve still got the sword,” Liam pointed out. “It’ll be trickier, but not impossible.”
“Good, give it to me,” John ordered.
“Oh, hell no! That thing is nearly two thousand years old. I swore to Jason as he was dying that I would take good care of it. It’s not leaving my sight.”
“Dad, it’s his sword, we’ll just have to trust him with it,” Dean said when John growled.
They gathered their things and Dean, Sam, Natalie, and Liam got in the Impala while John and Bobby got into Bobby’s old beat up van. The cemetery was deserted when they got there. There was an ominous looking crypt with iron doors and a lock in the center. They each took a gun and stood hiding behind tombstones and waited.
About an hour passed when Jake walked right up to the stone crypt, a bandage on his shoulder and the Colt in hand. “Hey, Jake,” Sam stepped out from behind the tombstone, gun in hand pointed at Jake.
Everyone else stepped out too. “You again,” Jake gave Sam a little smirk. “And you,” he looked to Liam. “I’ve got you to thank for the bullet in my shoulder.”
Liam snorted. “Yeah, well, if you don’t walk away like a good bitch next time it’ll be your head.”
“Nice sword,” Jake motioned to the weapon sheathed in Liam’s belt. “Won’t do you much good, but it looks pretty.” He grinned evilly and looked at Natalie. “Hey lady, do me a favor and put that gun to your head.”
Natalie’s hand shook, but she pressed the barrel to her temple. “Ava was right,” Jake laughed. “Once you give in to it, there are all sorts of Jedi mind tricks you can learn.”
“Let her go!” Sam shouted and cocked his gun.
“You’ll be mopping up skull before you can get a shot off. Everyone put your guns down, except you sweetheart.”
All the men lowered their guns to the ground. Jake turned and put the Colt barrel into a little hole in the door and the lock started spinning. Dean grabbed Natalie and pulled the gun away from her head while Sam picked his gun up and shot Jake three times in the back. Jake fell to the ground and Sam moved to stand over him. “Please… don’t...” Jake begged.
“You son of a bitch!” Sam shouted and shot Jake twice more in the heart.
Then all eyes turned to crypt as the lock stopped spinning and the pieces lined up to form a pentacle. “Oh, god,” John groaned.
“What is it?” Natalie asked.
“It’s hell!” Bobby shouted. “Take cover!”
Dean grabbed the Colt and they scattered to hide behind tombstones just before the doors burst open and a giant black cloud flew out. Then individual trails of black smoke started flying out heading off in different directions. “We gotta get the gate closed!” Bobby shouted. He ran up to grab one door while Liam and Natalie took the other and started pushing for all they were worth.
The yellow eyed demon appeared behind them. “Hello, boys,” it grinned.
Dean moved to point the Colt at it but it held out it’s hand and the gun flew right to it. “Children shouldn’t play with guns,” it smirked as Dean went flying and his head hit a tombstone, stunning him.
“Dean!” Sam shouted and tried to run over to his brother, but was pinned against a tree.
“Let them go!” John demanded.
“Or you’ll do what? Really, John, you’ve been such a pain in my ass that I think I should repay you by making you watch me kill your sons.”
Sam’s back arched as his he started screaming in pain, struggling to breathe. “Stop!” John shouted. Blood started trickling out of Sam’s mouth. “They have nothing to do with this! It’s me you want!”
Dean had regained his senses and lunged to take the Colt back. He grabbed it and fired the shot, but a second before the bullet hit the demon smoked out of the body and straight into John. John’s eyes turned yellow and he laughed. “Damn, you’re fast kid, but not quite fast enough. Uh oh, now what are you gonna do? I’ve got Daddy.”
Dean’s hand shook while he kept the gun pointed at his father. “Get out of him you coward!”
The demon laughed again. “This is pathetic! I swear, you three… Dean, you even sold your own soul for a former vampire,” he looked over his shoulder at Liam who was still pushing on the door with Natalie. “If I were to go over there and snap his neck, would you shoot me then? Knowing you, probably not. Love makes you weak, that’s just a fact. As long as I’m in this meat suit you two won’t touch me because that would mean killing your dear old daddy.”
Suddenly the demon jerked and the tip of a blade poked through the side of John’s chest. Those yellow eyes went wide and there was a little flash of light before John’s body went limp. Liam was standing behind him with the sword, blood now on the blade. “Liam, what the fuck did you just do!” Dean shouted as he lowered the Colt and rushed over to his father.
John was himself again, still alive and gasping for breath. “He… did what needed to be done.”
Natalie and Bobby got the gate closed, and they too rushed over along with Sam. “I aimed for a lung and missed any major blood vessels,” Liam said. “It killed the demon, and it gives you time to get him to a hospital.”
“Okay,” Dean nodded. “You did good. You heard him, Dad, let’s get you up and find the nearest hospital.”
Dean moved to help John up, but John pushed him away and shook his head. “No, Dean.”
“Dad, what the hell? We can save you!”
“Dean,” John coughed and a little blood appeared in the corner of his mouth. “I’m old, and I’m tired.”
“You’re not that old, Dad,” Sam said as he knelt behind his father and held him. “Let us take you to a hospital. The longer you argue the more time we lose.”
“I said no!” John growled. “It’s been a hard life, and it’s taken its toll. Now that the thing that killed my Mary is dead, I can rest in peace finally.”
“Dad, you’re talking crazy,” Dean said kneeling by him with a tear spilling down his cheek. “Liam figured out how to kill Yellow Eyes and spare you. This family can have a happy ending for once, why are you trying to ruin that?”
“I’m being realistic, son. We only have a few minutes, can we please not argue? You want a happy ending, let’s just be a family for a moment.”
“Dad, please...” Sam begged.
John reached up to put a hand on Sam’s cheek. “Sammy, I want you to know I’ve always been proud of you, even when you ran off to college. I know we had a huge fight about it and didn’t speak for a long time, but what you don’t know is I checked up on you every so often. I love you, Sammy. I know I wasn’t a good father, but I did the best I could.”
“I know you did,” Sam nodded, a tear sliding down his cheek. “I love you too.”
“And Dean, I know I put a lot on you. I made you grow up too fast, and sometimes I was a little too hard on you, but I’ve always been proud of you too. I really am glad you found someone, because you deserve it. You both do. Hold fast to the little things, because that’s what will get you through. I love you, Dean.”
“And I love you, Dad.”
“Liam,” he looked up to the blond. “You’ve got smarts, and you’ve got balls. I think I do like you,” he smiled. “You look after my son, and you love him. The same goes for you, Natalie, is it? My boys deserve all the love they can get.”
Liam placed a hand on John’s shoulder. “Dean will get all the love I’ve got.”
“Same here,” Natalie nodded. “Liam and I have only known your boys for a short time, but we love them. They’re special.”
“They are,” John agreed. “A man couldn’t ask for better sons. Boys, come here and just let me hold you for a minute.”
Both of them were crying as they huddled together and let John wrap his arms around them. They stayed like that for several minutes, no one saying anything. Then John started shaking and gasping for breath. After a minute he was gone. Liam knelt down beside Dean and wrapped his arms around him. “I’m so sorry. I thought if-”
“Don’t,” Dean shook his head. “I’m not mad at you. You did what had to be done, what I didn’t have the stones to do. And you did it in such a way that we got to say goodbye. I’m proud of you. First you saved Sam’s life with quick action, then you killed Yellow Eyes. You really came through for us. Keep doing that.”
“I didn’t want to kill your dad. He may have done some awful things to me, but he thought they were in your best interest.”
“I know,” Dean nodded. “But Yellow Eyes would’ve never let him go. You spared him that nightmare.”
“Rest in peace, John Winchester,” Bobby sighed. “What do you boys want to do?”
“I think Dad would want to be cremated,” Dean said.
“We can do that,” Bobby nodded. “Let’s take him back to my place.”
Sam and Dean carefully loaded John’s body into Bobby’s van and they all drove back in silence. It was very early in the morning when they got the funeral pyre built in Bobby’s yard and laid John out on it. With a heavy sigh Dean lit and stood back. He held tight to Liam while Sam pulled Natalie close and they watched it burn. “I have a thought,” Liam said when the flames started dying out. “Why don’t we put his ashes in something and bury him beside Jason. That way two great hunters can rest together.”
“You know, I kind of like that idea,” Dean kissed Liam’s cheek. “If you don’t think Jason would mind.”
“No, I don’t think he would.”
“Bobby, do you have anything we can put him in?”
“I think I do,” Bobby nodded and headed into the house.
“What did you put Jason’s ashes in?”
“An empty coffee can of his favorite brand of coffee.”
“That works,” Dean nodded. Bobby came back out with a large glass jar and handed it to Dean. “Thanks.”
Dean and Liam knelt down and started scraping the hot ashes into the jar. When they got most of them Dean stood and screwed the lid back on. “Come on, babe. Let’s go get some sleep. We’ll leave in the morning.”
“Yeah, we can drop Natalie home on the way,” Sam said.
“No,” Natalie shook her head. “I want to be with you when you bury your dad. Then we can go to my house and you two can take some time to grieve.”
“Okay, we’ll do that,” Sam nodded and kissed Natalie’s forehead.
They all went to bed and Sam and Dean both cuddled their significant others close for comfort. Natalie made a simple breakfast in the morning, then they all got ready to get back on the road. Nearly a day later the four of them headed into the Vermont woods. Liam led them to the spot, and Dean raised an eyebrow. “A pink rose bush?”
Liam shrugged. “We both really liked roses. I thought it was the perfect grave marker, even if it does look a little out of place.”
“I think it’s a beautiful place,” Natalie gave a little smile.
“Yeah, it is,” Sam agreed. “Very peaceful. What’s that?” he pointed to the dug up ground on the north side of the bush.
“Oh, that? That’s where the sword was buried. Don’t give me that look. You can’t see them, but there are powerful protective charms hidden in the trees in a ring around here. I even put a layer of very thin and delicate bottles of holy water over it that would break when anyone tried to dig it up. It was still where I left it, so it was safe.”
“Where’s Jason?” Dean asked.
“Right here,” Liam knelt down and patted a spot on the south side. “Maybe put your dad on the east side, give him a view of the sunrise?”
“That’s a nice thought,” Dean gave a little smile and started digging on the east side. “How deep do you think I should make it?”
Liam shrugged. “Up to you, love. Jason is only like two feet down.”
Dean nodded and dug a hole about two feet down. Then he took the jar and lovingly placed it in that hole. “Goodbye, Dad,” he said with a heavy sigh.
“Goodbye,” Sam sniffed. “We love you.”
Sam took the shovel from his brother and started the task of filling the hole back up. Then they stood there a moment, the only sound the birds in the trees. “Come on,” Natalie took Sam’s hand and started leading him out of the woods. “Let’s go home now.”
“Home?” Sam raised an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Natalie nodded. “Mi casa es su casa.”
Sam looked to Dean and shrugged. “I think we have a home now.”
Dean gave a little smile as he wrapped an arm around Liam’s waist and started walking. “Can’t beat that.”
