The next morning, Brooke awoke before Jamie had the chance to rouse her. The brunette let out a yawn as she made her way to the bathroom to freshen up.
After her morning shower, Brooke got dressed for work. She couldn't help but chuckle when she heard Jamie's voice outside her door, urging her to wake up. "I'm already awake, Jamie," Brooke called out, exiting the bathroom.
"Oh, good," Jamie replied. "I truly dislike waking you." She stepped into the bathroom to shower.
Brooke descended the stairs with a laugh, grabbing a cup of coffee before she headed to work. "Hey, Athena," Brooke greeted the dog, who wagged her tail excitedly near her bowl. "Hungry?" Brooke asked, bending down to pat Athena before filling her bowl with food and water.
"There you go," she said with a smile, going to the sink. She grabbed her coffee cup from the strainer and poured herself a cup.
"So, hoping to see the man from yesterday?" Jamie asked, entering the kitchen.
Brooke playfully glared at the blonde. "No," she said, sipping her coffee. "He might not come to the dinner today." She left the kitchen to put on her boots and jacket.
"I'm sure he'll be there. Everyone goes to Mike's for breakfast or at least once a day," Jamie called from the kitchen.
Brooke slipped on her boots and let Athena out before they left for work. She didn't give Jamie an opportunity to tease her about Sam.
The brunette couldn't help but wonder what Sam was doing today, or if he had found what he was looking for. She smiled as she let Athena back in. "Be a good girl," she said, leaving the house and heading to Jamie's Trans Am.
( At the Hotel, Sam, Desirey and Dean)
Sam sat at the table, drinking coffee while reading the newspaper. He glanced up to see Dean sitting on a chair, waiting for the woman he'd found the previous night.
"Is she still asleep?" Sam asked.
Dean shook his head. "Yes, but she's a bit injured. I think she's resting." He watched the sleeping woman on the couch, then turned to Sam. "What about you? Still planning to visit your lady friend?"
Sam almost choked on his coffee. "I don't know. We agreed to leave once we're sure she's okay. We still have to find Dad."
Dean nodded, grinning. "No rush." He turned to the blonde, who was groaning. "Hey, she's waking up."
Sam walked over to see for himself as Dean spoke to her softly.
Desirey groaned as she slowly awoke. Two unfamiliar voices reached her ears. One, she had heard before but couldn't place. A gentle tap on her arm roused her.
"Wake up." Dean's voice urged. "Umm," the blonde mumbled, opening her eyes to find two men staring down at her. "What happened, and who are you?" she asked.
Dean smiled. "Welcome to reality, sleeping beauty." He ignored Sam's eye roll and introduced himself. "I'm Dean, and this is my brother, Sam."
"Do you recall the events from last night?" Sam inquired. Desirey furrowed her brow, trying to piece together the fragments of memory. "I'm not quite sure. But I do remember being out with my fiance."
Dean nodded. "You were attacked by werewolves. One of them killed your fiancé. You would be dead if I hadn't arrived." His eyes softened as he watched Desirey's eyes well up with tears. "I'm sorry, but it's true."
Sam left the hotel to get food, hoping to give Dean time to get answers from Desirey and that Dean wouldn't get attached to her.
Desirey watched Sam leave, trying to process everything. Adam was dead. She wouldn't see him again. She looked at Dean, who watched her with sympathy.
"Do you have any family nearby?" Dean asked. "We can contact them and let them know you're safe."
Desirey shook her head. "No, my only family was Adam and his parents. But I don't know what to tell them. I didn't even believe in werewolves," she said, acknowledging that she now had to accept the existence of the supernatural.
( At Mike's Dinner)
Brooke approached a man wearing a hood and greeted him with a smile, "Good morning, sir."
As the man turned to face her, Brooke recognized him and memories of her brother flooded her mind. She tried to maintain her composure, "May I take your order?" she asked.
The man grinned, "I'd like a special!" he exclaimed, handing her the menu. Brooke accepted it, her apprehension momentarily concealed, "I'll have it prepared promptly," she replied.
"No rush," the man said, leaning back in his seat and observing her as she headed towards the kitchen.
As Brooke entered the kitchen, a new customer arrived at the diner.
Sam entered the diner after securing a parking spot. He intended to order a quick bite for himself, Dean, and the woman they had encountered. He assumed they could offer her breakfast before sending her on her way. Sam checked his phone and saw a message from Dean informing him that the woman's name was Desirey and that she had no apparent connections.
Sam sighed, feeling sympathy for Desirey. However, he understood that they couldn't take her with them. Yet, he knew Dean would likely stay until they found suitable accommodations for her.
Sam observed Brooke emerge from the kitchen carrying a food tray. He watched attentively as she cautiously approached a man's table. "Here's your food, sir," Brooke announced before turning to take other orders. "Thanks," the man replied. The brunette nodded and then approached Sam at the entrance.
"Can I help you with anything?" Brooke asked Sam with a smile, shaking off her nervousness.
"Just three bagels and three cups of coffee," Sam replied with a smile.
The brunette nodded and headed to the counter where the pastries were kept. "Would you like cream cheese with them?" she asked as she bagged up three bagels and poured coffee into three to-go cups.
Sam approached the counter. "Of course, please add some," he said with a smile as he grabbed sugar from the box. "How are you doing?" he asked, glancing behind him to see that the man Brooke had been serving food to was gone. Sam didn't like the strange feeling he got from the man.
"I'm fine," Brooke replied with a smile. She added cream cheese, napkins, and plastic knives to the bag. "What about you?" she asked, closing the bag once Sam put the sugar packets inside.
Nodding, Sam handed her the payment for his meal. "Everything was fine, aside from my brother finding a random girl who we're trying to help."
"Oh, that's good," Brooke replied with a smile as she returned his change.
"Thank you," Sam said with a smile. "I'll return with Dean and the woman for lunch if that's okay."
Brooke nodded with a smile. "That's no problem. I'll see you then." She returned to cleaning the table where the mysterious man had sat.
Sam lingered at the counter before exiting the diner. He retrieved his phone and called Dean, informing him that they would be staying in town for a while longer.
Brooke watched Sam leave before resuming her conversation with an elderly couple about their order. Her cheerful demeanor had shifted to one of apprehension, but she concealed it.
Pushing the man from her thoughts, Brooke wondered why he had appeared. She had not informed anyone of his existence.
