Piper sat at the kitchen table, her head resting in her hand, playing idly with a piece of string. She was still thinking about Chris. Actually her thoughts were alternating from Chris to Paige’s stalker and then back to Chris, and then to Leo and Wyatt and then back to Chris again – which didn’t really help, considering the fact that she wasn’t able to concentrate on anything else other than Chris.
Things were especially bad when Phoebe came strolling into kitchen, asking her, "What are you doing?"
Piper tried to hide her blush. "Um, nothing," she felt the heat rise in her face. "Was just…trying to pass my time somehow." By thinking about Chris, she added silently. Was it her imagination or did Phoebe just smile knowingly?
Phoebe got out a bottle of lemon juice from the fridge and took a swig. "Oh, that’s ," s," she said, "I was so thirsty."
Piper nodded, not knowing what to say. "Um…how is Paige doing?" she asked finally.
"Oh, she’s upstairs in the bath, trying to calm herself down," Phoebe shrugged. "I think she feels better now that Chris is doing something to help us."
Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris…
Why wouldn’t he leave her alone?
"Where’s Wyatt?" asked Phoebe.
"Oh, uh, Wyatt’s gone with Leo," Piper nodded with a little smile.
"Aw, do you miss him?"
"Not really, it’s actually nice to have some time to myselII just wish I had something more to do than think about Chris.
Piper got to her feet. "Well," she said, "I think I’ll go out for a walk now. Call me if you need hinghing, ok?"
"Sure thing," Phoebe grinned.
Chris had never really liked going to the Elders. Their whole white robes and responsibility creeped him out and he hadn’t been very fond of them in the future, either. Unfortunately when Wyatt turned evil, he killed many of the elders and the outcome was so ugly that Chris didn’t even want to think about it.
But it was all right, wasn’t it? After all, he’d come to the past to change things.
The Elders, as usual (at least in his opinion), knew nothing about this Bruce character, so many other things, for that matter and he quietly slipped out of their presence, trying to avoid Leo in particular.
It didn’t work
"Hey, Chris!" Leo had a smile on his face. Should he consider than bizarre? "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, you know, the usual," Chris shrugged, trying to be friendly. He still didn’t feel very comfortable around his would-be wife’s ex-husband.
"Is anything wrong?" Leo folded his arms across his chest and looked at the young whitelighter questioningly.
"Weluot;uot; Chris had no desire to talk to him right now but he didn’t have a choice. "Paige went out on a date with a guy last night and this guy told her that he knows she’s a witch."
"This is not good. Did you find out anything about him?"
"Well, the Elders didn’t seem to know anything about him but I’m gonna go and check the records now."
"No, thanks, I got it." Chris orbed out before Leo could say anything more.
The records room was surrounded with a brilliant blue light that suddenly made him feel very peaceful. He began to search the scrolls. Bruce, eh? Had Paige mentioned a last name? Oh, yes she had, when she’d been talking about him a few days ago! Lennox. Bruce Lennox. Why was that name so familiar to him?
He realized why when he found the name on a page. Bruce Lennox was a witch himself, a good one…and he couldn’t suppress a laugh. Paige would be engaged to Lennox in two years’ time. But there was bad news as well. If Bruce and Paige had already met, that meant that the evident danger was already here…and he would have to move fast.
