(Open inside the Earthling building, looking at the wall on the side towards the staging area. It starts to slide up, revealing Vertag and his minions.)
Vertag: Come in, come in. Watch your step.
(Camera dips to show a clearly marked avenue through the tents, lined with Marine guards holding grenade launchers. The giants walk along the path to find a wide open area at the back. The projector truck is in the middle of the area. Vertag gestures to spread the minions around in a half circle around the projector. Tettskin is the last giant through the wall, he closes it.)
Vertag: Now, you're in here to see something the humans have. (to the truck) Please?
(Camera swivels to watch the back wall as the projector fires up. The display is the infra-red and whatever else view of the Earthling building from overhead. The giant agents slowly come to realize they're looking at themselves. One or two wave arms to see the images mirror the movements.)
Stogga: That's...us. Right now. Real time.
Vertag: Exactly. They have units in position watching six businesses that are holding human hostages. And four other buildings that have a human reserve. (The display cycles through similar views of several giant buildings. Little arrows on the screen pulse to show the locations of humans.)
Tettskin: That's..some powerful intel you've got there.
Vertag: It really is. Now, you're all going to be in charge of invading one of these sites. There will be some backup SID agents for you, and you'll be paired with human Marines. I'm showing you this because I need you to understand. You're in charge, but if the human officer with you says 'don't go through that door, bad things will happen...'
Tettskin: Figure they're in a position to know what they're talking about.
Vertag: Exactly.
Minion1: How much SID support will we have, did you say?
Vertag: I didn't say. Dordell has found me sixty agents that I can have for the operation.
Stogga: Sixty...(glances at his coworkers) Seventy agents on one raid? Isn't that overkill?
Tettskin: There's no such thing. There's the bare minimum, and everything after that's just further into the comfort zone.
Minion2: Unless... We're not doing this in ten different raids, are we?
Vertag: No. For security purposes, I want to hit all ten sites at the same time. So that's ten operations. You all get six of Dordell's men.
Tettskin: Where will you be?
Vertag: (Nods to the screen) Monitoring the raids I'm worried about. If you don't hear me in your earplug, you're doing okay.
Stogga: How long do we have to study our targets? (points to the display that's still cycling through buildings)
Vertag: Until the op.
Minion3: When is the op?
Vertag: (glances at his watch) Um...now?
(Spin to show the front wall rolling up again. Ten vans are in the staging area, each with a knot of six SID agents waiting impatiently at the open doors)
Vertag: Get going. You'll get your addresses from the human communicators. There's a platoon at each site and a commando inside. (Minions file out the safety zone to meet the assisting agents. Vertag grabs Tettskin by the shoulder. Softer voice) You're paired with Perez. There's a guy they call the Bean Stalker a your target.
Tettskin: And you're warning me to take him alive?
Vertag: Perez and I picked you because he's the scariest one out there. If you decide that it's a choice between shooting him or risking Earthling lives, I want you to know I already support your decision.
Tettskin: (smiles) Tha- Thank you, sir! I won't let you down!
Vertag: Just don't shoot through Perez to take him down, okay? Go! (After the last minion departs, he shuts the wall)

(Cut to the inside of a giant office of some sort. Speaker is inside an office. The big glass window looks out on what's probably a typing pool. Many desks of women typing industriously. He glances out, then turns to the paperwork on his desk. The phone rings)
Speaker: Radiotronics, Documentation Support, how can I help you?
Voice1: They're doing something!
Speaker: (spins away from the window and crouches down) I told you never to call me here.
Voice1: There's no time for a drop! They're doing something! NOW!
Speaker: Who's doing something? SID or the Earthlings?
Voice1: Both! Chatter on their frequencies has increased by a factor of ten! We're got transmission spots all over the city. And about a hundred twenty SID agents just left the Exchange.
Speaker: A hundred? There aren't a hundred SID in the Nation!
Voice1: I'm telling you there are! Twelve vans, ten agents in each one, bristling with weapons, all spreading out across the city.
Speaker: Spreading out? Where are they headed?
Voice1: Number 35 couldn't say. No two vans are headed the same way.
Speaker: No two...? Are they going to ALL our sites?
Voice1: I dunno. I'm just asking for your orders. But I gotta tell you, if your order is not to grab the Earthlings and run for the hills-
(Sudden silence and the line goes dead)
Speaker: Hello? HELLO? HEY! (hangs up the phone. Steps to the door and out into the pool. At the first desk he leans over and speaks softly.) Chezelle, I'm going to be leaving early today. You're in charge. (pans to see that the woman at the first desk is Millious. She pauses in her typing)
Millious: Early, sir? Is something wrong?
Speaker: I don't know but... (pauses to grasp his belly) I, uh, just need to sleep it off, probably.
Millious: Well, sir, I hope you feel better tomorrow.
Speaker: Thanks. See you then. (he backs towards his office) I'll just get my briefcase...and... Some, uh, paperwork. In case I feel good enough to do some work. In bed. (turns and enters his office, closing the blinds on his window)
Millious: (looks suspiciously at her boss' closed window. She slides open a drawer and reaches into her purse. She pulls up a handgun just high enough that we see her turn off the safety. Then she puts it back and closes the drawer)
(Speaker crosses his office and opens a filing cabinet. There's a case in the bottom drawer. He unlocks it to reveal four humans. They flinch at the sudden light. He reaches down for them.)
Styles: HALT, Jerkwad! (Several humans step into sight from under his desk. All aim rockets or grenade launchers at Speaker)
Speaker: How DARE you-?
(Cut to the typing pool. A door bursts open and Stogga's team enters, guns drawn.)
Stogga: This is the SID! Remain seated or you will be fired upon. (Millious reaches into her drawer. The woman at the desk behind her stands up, handgun drawn)
Woman: Mr. Uffden! RUN! (Fires a round towards the SID. The giants duck. The outside windows shatter and three rockets stream through the space to blow the Woman's head off. A military helicopter hovers outside the window.)
Stogga: (standing) As I said, you will be fired upon. (Cut to a view of Millious lowering her gun and looking innocent. Over her shoulder we see the window to Speaker/Seachen's office. There is a flash of some sort and the blinds rustle as something explodes.)
(Cut to a long shot of Stogga and agents from across the room.)
Stogga: Into the office! (Agents move to the door, two cover the typing pool. All the secretaries stare at the column of smoke rising from Woman's desk. Fade as they kick in the door)
(Fade in to the inside of a van. Tettskin sits in the passenger seat, a borrowed Agent in the driver's seat. They're parked. Perez is on the dashboard in front of Tettskin. They look through binoculars)
(Cut to the front of Bean Stalker's house. He's visible through the front window, lounging on a sofa and reading a newspaper.)
Perez: This guy's more paranoid than I am. He's got alarms, ferrets, traps, weapons. We think there are explosives on his mail slot. We couldn't put an advance team in for fear of alerting him. And we don't have anyone in place on his grounds.
Tettskin: Okay. I got it.
Perez: Got it? (lowers binocs to stare up at the giant) Thirty seconds through a pair of binoculars and you've got it?
Tettskin: Well, I also saw the layout on the wall of the building back at the Exchange.
Perez: That was about ten seconds each place. And you couldn't have known which one was...
Tettskin: I knew they were all full of people I might get to shoot.
Perez: (shakes her head) And I thought Bean Stalker scared me. So what's the plan? (fade out as Tettskin readies his pistol.)
(Fade in at a rest home. Old people rest on benches or walk slowly down the sidewalks. A van comes to a stop. Minions disembark and walk towards a quaint gate in a trimmed hedge.)
Agent1: Here? You need backup to raid an old folks home?
Minion1: If Vertag wanted a full squad, there had to be a reason. (He opens the gate, they walk through)
Agent1: (to his fellows from Dordell's office) This should be a cakewalk. (they smile and nod) (Agent 1 raises his voice to shout to the residents) Please remain calm, citizens. This is official SID-
(Several old people raise ridiculously large weapons and aim them at the agents. Minion1 turns and dives over the hedge while the Agents all look terribly surprised)
Minion1: Take cover, idiots!
Agent1: But they're so-
(Weapons start to fire. SID agents take a few steps in several directions. The hedge erupts in flames as concealed bazookas and rocket launchers go off. Human platoons take out the armed residents. Minion1 runs back through the gate, past the burning bodies and charges up the steps)
Minion1: This is the SID! Remain seated or you will be fired upon. (he crashes through the door. Agents shake themselves out and start to follow)
Agent1: Damn, I hate Second Nation. (They follow Minion1. Fade out as shots are fired)
(Fade inside the Security Tent. Adams looks at a big screen showing the hyper-techno view of an office building. Amplifying text identifies SID agents, bystanders, humans and Marines.)
Adams: Okay, give me Shaver's target. (screen shifts to show SID agents surrounding a small house. Text shows SID, humans, Marines. There is one giant inside the house). Shaver!
Shaver (voice): Colonel?
Adams: SID's about to knock the door down. Where's the giant?
Shaver (voice): Still asleep on his bed, sir. (Giant on the screen moves) Sir, his phone is ringing.
Adams: Tap that call.
Brown (voice offscreen): Got it, sir.
Giant1 (voice): Hello?
Giant2 (voice): The Earthlings are attacking!
Giant1 (voice): Who?
Giant2 (voice): The Earthlings!
Giant1 (voice): No, no. (figure on bed sits up and stands. SID gets closer) Not who's attacking. Who are the Earthling's attacking?
Brown (voice offscreen): Should we interrupt the call, sir?
Giant2 (voice): EVERYONE!
Adams: No, as long as they're warning this guy, they're not warning anyone else. Can we trace the call?
Giant1 (voice): Well, it's quiet here.
Brown (voice offscreen): Um. Yes, sir. It's coming from the office Styles is targeting.
Giant2 (voice): Well, get your Little People and get out of there!
Adams: See if you can tell her where the speaker's at. Shaver, are you ready?
Giant1 (voice): Where do I go?
Shaver: We are ready, sir, and SID informs me they are, too.
Giant2 (voice): I don't know. All the rendezvous points are under attack! Just get out! Use the usual drops to find out where the new safe houses are.
Giant1 (voice): Okay. (hangs up)
Adams: Shaver, you're cleared.
Shaver (voice): Yes, sir. (On the screen Marines rush out to surround a birdcage on a table with humans inside it. SID kicks in the door, takes the giant by surprise, bears him to the floor)
Shaver (voice): Sir, they've arrested the giant. The hostages are safe.
Adams: Bring 'em home, son. Give me Perez.
Brown (voice offscreen): Perez, aye. (Fade as Beanstalker's house shows on the screen)
(Fade in on dark tunnels, the ones Vertag took Janet through in episode 2-19. Vertag appears, holding a flashlight. He's leading Lessala. They continue through dark, cramped tunnels as they converse.)
Lessala: And these tunnels run all through Coastal City?
Vertag: Yep.
Lessala: We've never even suspected anything like this.
Vertag: I know.
Lessala: Well, how do you know about them?
Vertag: On one of my first assignments, I saved the life of a strange little character. Either a space alien or a time traveler, I never knew which.
Lessala: And he built you a tunnel system through the city?
Vertag: He said that he knew I liked secrets and offered me a big one.
Lessala: Offer? You had a choice?
Vertag: Well, either the biggest secret of Coastal City, or a million dollars.
Lessala: And you chose secrets?
Vertag: Well, yeah. Imagine if I turned up rich while working for SID?
Lessala: Oh, no, Inspector, I didn't commit treason for this money. A bug-eyed alien gave it to me for pulling a splinter out of its paw. Yeah, I can see that going over.
Vertag: Exactly.
Lessala: So, where are you taking me?
Vertag: You'll see. You'll have to see. You won't believe me if you don't see it for yourself.
Lessala: Are you going to give me a flashlight so I can see it for myself? (they retreat into the darkness. Light and Lessala's voice both fade into the distant tunnel) Are there spiders in here? Was that...?
(Fade into the inside of Bean Stalker's house. He sits up straight and walks to the window. Peering past the curtain, he sees the SID van pull up outside. He bends down to reach under the table where the tank of human woman sits. He leers at the tiny figures)
Stalker: Looks like it's time. Who's going to be first one bitten? (they cower and whimper. He moves to the window) He's picked up a bullhorn from under the humans. Holds that up to the window and waits.)
Agent2: (outside on curb) This is the SID! Remain seated or you will be fired upon!
Stalker: (through his speaker) I have Earthlings in here, SID! You set one foot on my property, I'll start biting their heads off.
Agent2: That would be illegal! The Directorate has empowered me-
Stalker: I don't care about First Nation's Wimpy Directorate! (starts to reach down to the tank.) I guess I have to show you I'm seri- (there's a metallic clank. He looks down to see that his hand is caught in a bear trap. It sits where his aquarium was. Blood seeps around where the teeth bite in.) You're supposed to be in the back yard... (He turns to see Tettskin standing a few feet away. The giant is holding the aquarium. Perez stands on his shoulder, aiming a grenade launcher at Stalker) How did you...?
Tettskin: You have a nice security frontier against Earthlings. And another against...(he glances down at Perez, small smile)... giants.
(Stalker glances down. There's a gun on the table, he lowers the bullhorn a bit in that direction.)
Tettskin: But like everyone else on this planet, you see them as two different threats. If humans and giants work together they- (Stalker is almost to the gun) You want him?
Perez: Please.
Tettskin: Take- (Stalker drops the bullhorn snatches the gun, turns towards Tettskin. Perez' grenade takes him in the windpipe. He drops backwards and out the window) -your shot.
Perez: Thanks.
(Fade as the other agents come running across the lawn)
(Fade in to another typing pool. Two men in suits crouch behind a desk, guns drawn. The desks around them are in disarray. Paper strewn, seats tipped over, pencil cups spilled. Suit1 is crouched at the back of Suit2. He points to a bookcase across the way. It's tipped over onto a smaller filing cabinet. Most of the books have slid off and spilled on the floor. Four nondescript books remain in the middle of one shelf, obviously fake books and/or bolted in place.)
Suit1: Grab the safe!
Suit2: You grab the safe!
Suit1: You're closer!
Suit2: I'm closer to the security truck, too.
Suit1: It's a tiny security truck.
(Napalm shoots between the desk they crouch behind and the bookcase. An office chair lights on fire.)
Suit2: It's not all THAT tiny.
Suit1: Maybe we can make it to the stairway.
(new voice): I don't think so.
Suit2: Why not?
(they pause and slowly turn to look behind them. Two more tanks are in the aisle, main guns pointed one at each giant. An officer sits in the cupola)
Marine: Because the bastards have that direction covered, too. (Fade out as the giants drop their weapons and raise their hands).
(Fade in to the Chief's railroad office. He stands at his communication console, punching buttons)
Chief: Millious? Number seven? Number twenty three? Anyone? Talk to me! Open transmission to all units! I need a status report! (the lights flicker, then go out. The train rolls to a stop. There's a little light from an emergency light over the exit.) Crap. (Grabs a satchel hanging on the wall and runs out the door)
(Cut to a shadowy view of the Chief jumping down from the toy train to the table. Suddenly he's speared by a spotlight. He shields his eyes and tries to see who's there)
Chief: Who's there? Millious? What the hell's going on?
Lessala: Chief?
Chief: Crap.
Lessala: Chief? Really? You're a...human?
Chief: Number three, I can explain.
Lessala: Don't bother! I'm not three anymore. (the spotlight wavers) You knew this?
Vertag: I suspected. (under the apparent inattention, Chief ducks under the train and scurries to the other side.)
(Cut to the other side, he just starts to run when another spotlight hits him)
Chief: Hey! Now, look, there doesn't have to be any sort of unpleasant overreaction to-
Lessala: You were going to have Janet KIDNAPPED! Just for INTEL!
Chief: I wasn't. I tabled that plan.
Lessala: Janet's my FRIEND! I TOLD you that!
Chief: You're not supposed to have friends! They compromise your-
Vertag: Shut up.
Chief: I- (Lessala's fist slams on the table, interrupting him and knocking him over)
Lessala: He said shut up!
Vertag: You can't kill him, Lessala.
Lessala: Why not?
Vertag: Because Perez would really, really like to ask him some questions.
Lessala: Oh, so would I!
Vertag: Maybe they'll let you sit in on...or sit over the interrogation.
Chief: (starts to scrabble in his satchel) Oh, god.
Lessala: Is he looking for a weapon?
Vertag: Or a suicide pill. (Lessala's hand snatches him up and lifts him into the air. The lights come back on.)
(Cut to a view from the table looking up. Lessala examines her captive. Vertag steps away from the light switch and pulls a roll of tape out of a pocket.)
Chief: Three, if you've ever been loyal to the cause...
Lessala: The cause? Second Nation for the Nation born? Where do you fit into that cause?
Chief: Uh...
Vertag: (hands tape over) See if you can keep him from killing himself before Perez gets a chance at him.
Lessala: (takes the tape) Only because I like Perez more than I like him...
(Cut to a closeup of the Chief. His hands are pinned in Lessala's grip. He looks up at her in dismay. Offscreen we hear a strip of tape being torn free. Fade out)
(Fade in on a giant parking lot somewhere in Coastal City. Ten vans are in a rough circle in the middle of the lot and the camera pans the circle from inside. Minions and agents mingle. Human tanks and other units are gathered under one van. Some vans have prisoners, in varying stages of distress, although all seem depressed. Some have been bloodied in fighting, some are just bound. Speaker has a few gauze bandages and is gagged, Stalker is in a stack of corpses filling the back of one van.)
Minion2: (to a circle of minions) So? Anyone hear from Vertag?
Minion5: Why would we hear from Vertag?
Minion2: He said he was going to monitor the raids he was concerned about, right?
Minion3: Right.
Minion2: Well, I notice he didn't call me.
Minion1: Or me.
Minion3: Me, either. (the others shake their heads)
Minion2: Hmm. Well, you wouldn't admit it if he had, would you?
Minion4: It'd be simple enough to check the comm logs. See who he did call.
Minion2: But he used the human circuits.
Minion3: He did?
Minion4: How would you know?
Minion2: I mean, it's obvious he WOULD have, right? If he had? For security purposes?
(Cut to slightly overhead. A car pulls up to the edge of the circle. Dordell, Vertag and Lessala get out. Dordell walks quickly to the center. Lessala walks with a slight limp. Vertag slows to be next to her.)
Vertag: (softly) What's wrong?
Lessala: SOME one is wiggling.
Vertag: (slaps her gently on the behind) How's that?
Lessala: He stopped. Thanks.
(Cut back to the camera inside the circle)
Dordell: (smiling and rubbing his hands together) What a haul. WHAT a HAUL! We're going to be all MONTH just sorting out the fake IDs. (turns to Vertag, waves at one van with prisoners) How many do you want?
Vertag: They're all yours, Dordell. I just want my men back.
Lessala: And the humans.
Vertag: Oh. Well, that goes without saying.
Lessala: Only if you don't say it.
Vertag: I suppose.
Dordell: Whatever! Okay. All Earthlings into Van number three. (Lessala and Vertag's faces whip around to look at Dordell, suspecting an inside joke. He just points innocently) That's where the security trucks are already parked.
Vertag: Oh.
Lessala: Okay, sure.
(Minions lift a ramp into place, the tanks swarm up, foot soldiers following behind. More minions carry transport cages over carefully. Lessala steps to supervise them. Vertag steps closer to Dordell who is supervising his own agents getting into the vans with and without prisoners)
Dordell: We'll do triage at headquarters. Bodies to forensics, healthy to interrogation, wounded to the morgue-
Vertag: Dordell?
Dordell: What?
Vertag: The humans. The hostages. They've had...a pretty traumatic experience.
Dordell: I imagine so.
Vertag: I'd like to transfer them directly to the Marines. No waiting period. (they stare at each other for a moment)
Dordell: For the...trauma.
Vertag: Figure they'll heal faster that way. Maybe the humans'll give us a bonus after all the excitement.
Dordell: Ah. Yes. Always worried about the tech bonus. (deep breath) Yeah. Okay. Take them all inside. Just count them carefully, okay?
Vertag: Okay. (The last Marine gets up into the van. The minions all pile into the one next to it, Vertag and Lessala take the car. Fade out as they drive off across the lot)
(Cut suddenly to the Chief's office. Millious bursts in, staggers to the table)
Millious: Chief! It's all gone to ash! (sees the train, moves around to that side of the table)
Millious: Chief? Are you there? (she peers in the windows. Then she opens the lid and looks down in the empty compartment.)
Millious: Evan? (she notes the satchel on the table, pinches it and picks it up) This is your emergency pack... (she crushes it in her fist)
Millious: Vertag....(she ducks under the table. There's a snapping sound, a sliding sound, then she stands up, holding a very large, angry looking machine gun)
Millious: (very low voice) Vertag.
