Maureen's stomach had barely settled when AJ2 set down on the Imperial Planet.
Their pilot had managed a gear landing in the center of the Imperial Parade ground.
Ground vehicles bearing Imperial medics were quickly on the scene.
Maureen selected the first to receive aid and transport based on standard triage.
Apparently the Imperials hadn';t developed that system and treated by ascending rank.
"We would lose a lot less oofficers if we did it your way." one of the attending medcs said.
An hectic hour late Maureen joined John at their quarters.
When she came throug hteh door John noticed that she was quite a turn on.
her hair was wils and she was wearing a skintight Imperial combat suit.
they kissed and held one another.
"Was it rough?"
"Not on me." she said, "But some of the girls were hurt rescuing people. And the people they rescued were already in bad shape."
"Bugs playing with their food? " he offered.
She actually chuckled. "I think so. I'm just glad we got them out."
they broke their embrace. "Get me a tall one would you?" Maureen asked.
The professor started to mix reasonable impression of a Tom Collins with local material while maureen peeled the space suit.
"Did you know they don't know triage here?"
"No. how do they assign priority?"
"Apparently lowest ranks first." June saiid. "They lose a lot of officers."
"You should teach them."
"I started today." she said.
Niolani and her personal bodyguard arrived at 6AM.
She was amused that Earth people slept so late.
"You have to get up early in the Empire " she said.
Once they were seated around the table and energy drinks passed round Nilani spoke.
"The Empire is grateful for the ahips. Kayleesas report indicates the first example performed well and returned intact."
"We're glad to do it." Maureen said,. "Anything that drives back those awful bugs must be alright."
"thy're the worst thing we've ever encountered among the stars." Niolani said. "Most aliens we've encountered have shared the same basic form as soursleves, you know, billateral symmetry, single head, two propulsive and two manipulative organs, ect. "
"That agrees with out experience." the professor said.
"You've got a good sample. The more exotic forms have been passive, or kept to themselves,. You encountered some of them in a sleeper ship. But he bugs!"
"I've been authorized by the council to take whatever action is necessary."
"Council? IU thoiught you were absolute."
"I am in all butAlien Relations." she said. " i nthat arena the greatest scholars i nthe empire elect a council which reviews my actions."
She leaned forward. " you will eventually learn that long ago in our history there was an unfortunate encounter with Space Vikings. A pior empress made a foolish mistake dealing with them, and we decided to never risk it again."
"Checks and balances, even here." Maureen smiled.
"I'm glad you asked about the Council." she said, "for they have made a ruling."
"Regarding us?" the professor asked.
Maureen's stomach clenched. She actually liked Niolani. But absolutre eulers on Earth were famous for disposing of their technicians once no longer needed.
"Yes." she said. 'It has been ruled that your family will be annexed into the EMpire."
Maureen's jaw dropped. the professor said "We've spent a little time in teh Empire befoee. I won't allow my son or the Major to be enslaved."
"What about doctor smilth" Nolani asjed.
'"You can have him" Maureen said.
"We don't need him." Nolani lauighed. "but we'll take him in too."
"You aren't coming in as Frontier labor this time." she said. "You're going to be associated with my own Imperial House."
She smiled "it would actually put Penny and Judy in line for the throne someday."
What about Will?
he would be the equivalent of a prince on your own world, minus any authoprity outside of his research center, of course."
"And Major West?"
Niolant shook her head. I had to accept personal responsibility for his behavior. The council doesn't go for agressive male types."
"He does have the discipline to behave as a major I presume?" Nolani asked.
'Well you better ask him first." the Professor said.
Professor Robinson considered the offer.
This wasn't the offer of a cage i nthe Keeper's zoological scow or a bunk in Marvello's circus. this was life as royalty in a technologically advanced empire.
It would beat the hell out of camping in the Jupiter in many ways.
they girls would be royalty in a society where they would also be he dominat sex.
So would Maureen.
Would it be moral to ask Don and Will to suck it up. He assumed wmith would go along with it for fine food and clean shieets.
"i need to discuss this with the family" the Professor said.
Noilani shook her head. It's aleady been ordered. I'm as bound as you and Thora were the other night."
'Word gets around quickly." the professor said.
"Not quickly enough it seems." Maureen said. "Thora the whip girl from the pits?"
Nolani and her guards seemed amused by this exchange, so let it continue.
'yes. She and a friend stopped by while you were on the raid. Honestly I was goign to tell you about it today, you seemed tired and a upset last night."
It wasn't like they hadn't discussed the ET sexual situation before. And Maureen knew it would have been expacted of a man of high rank i nthe EMpire.
"We'll watc h the video later." she said.
Maureen turned to Niolani "So what would we do?"
'"Practice your arts." she said. "You have much to teach us and we are eager to learn. Like the Triage system you demonstrated yeasterday."
"Listen" Nilani said. "it's done. The council has openly ruled."
"I would much rather have you come willingly. But the Council is authorized to deploy the Kaylesa's Red Woman as needed. "
"I'm going to send you back to your family. One hour after Kayleesa and the girls will be along to help you move."
"Im not saying we'll cooperate.' the professor said. "But what about the robot?'
"Your B9 is welcome too. he will have the status of an alien diplomat so far as the law is concerned."
Niloani touched one of wach of their hands. "Please accept my invitation to join us. You've earned our respect."
Two hours later the Professor and Muareen stepped into the Trans Shifter.
