Dean sat at the hotel table, discussing their plans with Desirey. However, his conversation was interrupted by a call from Sam.
"Are you sure he's a demon?" Dean inquired.
Sam had just entered the hotel and approached Dean. "I'm certain. I believe he's tracking Brooke," he affirmed, referring to the uneasy expression Brooke had when taking the mysterious man's order.
Desirey listened attentively but remained silent. She still struggled to comprehend the supernatural concepts they discussed. After the previous night's events, she hesitated to voice her disbelief.
"How formidable is this demon?" Dean questioned. "Perhaps he poses no threat."
Sam shook his head. "No, I don't believe so. He's powerful," he stated, his mind racing with concern for Brooke's safety.
Dean nodded, knowing not to question Sam too much. He knew his brother was usually right when the demon was strong. "But why would this demon want Brooke?" he asked as he watched Sam pull out his laptop. "Maybe I can see if I can find out if she had any family members," he said.
Desiree leaned forward to look at the screen and watched Sam type in Brooke's name. "There's an article about something," she pointed to the name.
Sam clicked on it and saw that Brooke had a brother, "Felix Marshall," he read before scrolling through the article. "It says he was killed two and a half years ago in a small town in Ohio."
Dean leaned closer to read it and frowned. "It doesn't say much other than the killer hasn't been found. And it looks like Brooke ran before this was written because they couldn't find her after Felix's death."
"It appears she's reported as a missing person," Desirey remarked, contemplating if Brooke had fled something. "Could she have killed her brother?"
Sam dismissed the notion. "No, Brooke isn't like that." Dean raised an eyebrow. "You've only known her a few days."
"I'm certain," Sam asserted. "She's not a murderer." Dean nodded. "The only way to know is to ask Brooke."
Sam glanced at the clock. "We'll be there at lunch to speak with her." Dean agreed. "But in the meantime, we need to decide what to do with Ms. Levine."
"Desirey is staying with us until she decides her next move. She has no other family," Dean said, reluctant to leave Desirey alone since he did not anticipate encountering more werewolves.
( At The Dinner)
Brooke glanced at the clock as she carried the dirty breakfast dishes into the kitchen. "Almost lunchtime," she mentioned.
Jamie approached, taking the dishes. "Indeed. "
"Sam will soon arrive with his brother and a friend."
Brooke assisted with carrying the dishes to the sink. "I should take my break now so Mike won't get annoyed with me for delaying my return to work." With that, she left the kitchen towards the back to clock out for lunch and remove her apron.
Brooke hung her apron in her designated cubby and checked her phone for messages. She noticed a call and text from Sam: "Hey, Brooke, need to talk."
Puzzled, Brooke wondered about Sam's intentions, contemplating the werewolf-related matters they had discussed the previous day. Shrugging off her concerns, she decided it wouldn't be harmful to have a conversation.
Grabbing her phone and coffee cup, Brooke headed to the dining area and sat down to wait for Sam and his brother. She glanced around as she observed people entering and leaving the diner.
Sam, Dean, and Desirey arrived shortly after. "Hi, welcome to Mike's Diner," Brooke greeted them as she approached their table. "Hi, Brooke. Did you receive my text?" Sam inquired, meeting her halfway. Dean and Desirey followed behind.
"Yes, I did," Brooke responded with a nod to Dean and Desirey. "You said you wanted to discuss something with me," she stated, a hint of apprehension in her voice. Her unease had lingered since that morning.
Sam nodded and led the group to an available table. Dean seated himself. "We'd like to talk about your brother," Dean initiated bluntly, disregarding Sam's disapproving glance.
Desi watched as Brooke froze upon hearing Dean's words. "About Felix? I thought it was about these killings." Brooke frowned, glaring at Dean and then Sam. "How do you know about my brother? I never told you," she accused Sam.
Sam hesitated. "I looked you up, and Felix's name came up. I was checking into what happened because the man you encountered this morning is a demon." He observed Brooke's expression shift from anger to confusion.
"Demon?" Brooke shook her head. "No, he was just a random guy." She tried to suppress the memory of the force that had thrown her against the wall that night. "I can sense it, Brooke. He's a demon, and I suspect he also killed your brother," Sam insisted.
Desirey's heart ached for Brooke, understanding the disbelief. "I don't believe you," Brooke said, shaking her head. She stood up. "Demons aren't real. It was just a random attack, and I ran away."
"Brooke, I'm telling you it was a demon. I mean, I looked at the pictures of your brother's body, and it shows it was a-" Sam was cut off by the brunette.
"I don't believe anything you say. Don't disrespect my brother like this, especially when you don't know anything about him or me!" Brooke said through gritted teeth.
Sam opened his mouth to ask where Brooke was going. "I've got to get to work. My break is over," she said. "Jason here will take your orders."
She walked to the back, leaving another waiter to take Sam, Dean, and Desirey's orders.
"That went well," Dean said as he watched the brunette leave. Sam shook his head. "You could've done that differently instead of ambushing Brooke," he said, giving his older brother a disapproving look.
Dean shrugged. "What? I was doing my job. Like you said, if this demon is as strong as you say, we can't sugarcoat it." They ordered their food. "But it doesn't seem like Brooke wants to talk to you anymore."
"Thanks to you," Sam glared, "we can head out and start looking for John. It doesn't seem like Brooke will listen to us now."
Dean nodded. "We'll leave at night and see if the demon shows up again. Maybe that will open Brooke's eyes."
Desirey sighed. "Maybe we should give her some time. You did ambush her, and she didn't seem eager to talk about her brother with strangers. I'm still learning about this supernatural stuff myself."
Brooke reached the back room and leaned against the wall, tears streaming down her face as she recalled Sam's words. She couldn't reveal what had happened that night.
The brunette hoped it was just a random attack on her brother, but the man's voice echoed in her ears, "Tell anyone about this, and I'll kill you. And I'll know." The brunette sobbed and shook her head.
"I can't tell anyone. I haven't even told Jamie, about what happened when she found me in the snow."
