Part Eight

Eden struggled to pull herself away from Ares’ lips, not wanting to let her passion overrule her mind. She was still mad – upset about things, and had gone there with the intention of talking things out, not jumping in the sack with him.

She pulled away, breathless. “Ares stop this. Please!” she pleaded.

Ares looked at her, confused. “What’s wrong?”

She wriggled out of his embrace and stood, straightening out her clothes. “I didn’t come her for this. Besides, I would have thought you had your fill with your three little guests that were here when I arrived.”

Ares sat up but did not stand. He leaned back, supporting himself with one arm behind him and looked at the floor. “I needed something to occupy my time,” he admitted. “I haven’t stopped thinking about you since you left. I imagine it wasn’t the kind of thing that you were expecting to see. But look at it this way,” he said as he stood and looked at her, “it took three of them to fill the void you left.” He tried to lighten the mood by joking, but it was in bad taste and he knew it. “To be honest, Eden, a thousand women couldn’t take your place. Not in my bed and not in my heart.”

She shrugged and looked away, as if what he said had no meaning.

“Eden, I’m just glad you’re here. That means I still have a chance to make it all up to you. Whatever you want – is fine. However you want to play this out is okay with me. You want to talk – let’s talk. You want to hit me – go ahead. Whatever helps us work though this. Just tell me what I have to do.”

He sounded sincere, Eden thought, but this was the God of War. She had heard many tales of how devious Ares was, especially in battle. That’s why he was considered to be such a brilliant tactician, he knew exactly how to manipulate people, work them, fool them. Who was to say he wasn’t doing the same thing to her?

“You must be starved after traveling all night.” He waived his hand and a small rectangular table with two accompanying chairs appeared by the window. A feast fit for a king, or a god in Ares’ case, awaited them. He gestured towards the table. “Please, eat. We can talk over breakfast.”

Eden looked at the table and then to Ares again. After a moment of contemplation, she moved to take a seat. It did smell wonderful, she thought, and she was pretty hungry. She couldn’t very well travel on an empty stomach.

Ares rushed to hold her chair while she took her seat and then sat himself, opposite of her. He motioned to the food in front of them. “Please, help yourself,” he told her.

She started to dish food onto her plate. “Aren’t you eating?”

He shook his head. “No, not right now. Maybe in a little while,” he answered. He leaned back in his chair and casually crossed his arms, never taking his eyes off of her as she filled her mouth with bread and fruit as if it were the first time she ate in a week. It brought hitenttention to the fact that she had dropped a few pounds since she left.

“Haven’t you been eating lately, Eden? You look like you’ve lost some weight. You should take better care of yourself.”

She wiped the juice that ran down her chin from the melon she was biting in to. “Yeah, well, I’ve been kinda busy lately. When I left here, I didn’t have any money. It took me three days before I had earned enough dinars to rent a room and take a hot bath. And did I ever need one by then!” she lightly joked, breaking off another hunk of bread.

“You could have stayed here. You didn’t have to leave, you know.”

Eden looked at him doubtingly. “Yes I did. I was far too angry with you to stay here.”

“And now? Are you still angry now?”

Eden finished swallowing what was in her mouth and pushed her plate away. She leaned back and looked at him thoughtfully before answering.

“Yes. But not like I was. A week ago I would have rather died than step foot in this temple again. But after what Aphrodite said about . . .”

“Aphrodite?” he interrupted, “What does she have to do with this?”

“If it wasn’t for Aphrodite, I wouldn’t be here at all. I would probably be on my way to Scupi by now. But she informed me of the circumstances under which we met and told me that I should give you another chance.”

Ares smiled, making a mental note to thank his sister later. An annoyance she may be, but she had also come to his aid more times than he could remember.

“Eden, I swear that yon’ton’t regret this. You’ll be happy you stayed,” he said seductively.

“Whoa, there. Wait a minute. I didn’t say anything about staying. I only came to talk. There are still some questions that need answering first.”

“Anything you want to know – just ask.”

“Okay, why didn’t you tell me that you were Ares when I first met you, after you hurt your ankle?”

Ares smile faded and he looked away. “Because you hated me. And I thought if you knew who I really was, then you wouldn’t help me and I was in no condition to fend off the group of men that were chasing me.”

“So you purposely deceived me, to save your own skin?” It was more of a statement than a question.

Frustrated, Ares stood and began to pace. “No. Yes. No, it was never my intension to lie to you. It’s just that you had such a strong opinion about me and not without reason, but you don’t understand – I had never been injured before. I didn’t know what to do. I needed your help.”

“Did you really think that I would have kicked you out if I had known your true identity?”

There was a moment of silence in the air so thick it could have been cut with a knife. Finally Ares answered, “Yes, I did.”

“You thought I was that shallow? That selfish, to turn my back on someone who needed help?”

“I didn’t know you then. Of course I don’t think that now.”

“Humph,” Eden quietly said under her breath, as if her feeling were hurt. “So if you knew how I felt about you, then why did you come back? Why didn’t you just stay gone once you were healed? I would have never known.”

Ares looked at the table and waived his hand. Instantly, the table was cleared of the mess from breakfast. He sat down and took one of Eden’s hands in his and stared her in the eyes.

“I tried. But I couldn’t get you off of my mind, Eden. You’re . . .” he struggled, trying to find the right words, “different than most mortals. You’re special. You have the biggest heart I’ve even known someone to have. Most of the mortals I deal with don’t even have a heart. But you . . . you touched me in a way I’ve never known before. It’s infectious. I couldn’t stay away, Eden. I wanted to be near you.”

Eden listened and watched the god’s face intensively for any sign that he might be lying to her, conning her. But she only saw sincerity in his eyes. It made her heart melt; yet she showed no change in her expression to reflect it. She suddenly pulled her hand away from his and eyed him with scrutiny. “So why didn’t you tell me who you were when you returned? Why continue the charade?”

Ares sat back again and sighed. “I don’t know. You already knew me as Aaron. I guess I didn’t want to rock the boat. Besides, when I was with you, when I was Aaron, I wasn’t the God of War anymore. I don’t expect you to understand, but when you’ve been a god as long as I have, certain things are expected of you. As Aaron, I had a chance to be free of all that. To just be a regular man.”

“You already were a regular man. Aphrodite told me Zeus took your powers.”

“That’s true. However, I was still walking around telling everyone I was the God of War. I was still thinking like the God of War, scouting for men to join my army, surveying the lands for what value I could getm itm it. Angry that I couldn’t use my powers to do what I wanted, go where I wanted. Until I met you, I was just a fallen deity. But you, Eden, you changed all of that.”

Eden turned her head and stared out the window and sighed. She shook her head as she thought about what Ares had just told her.

“What’s wrong? Don’t you believe me?” Ares asked, confused by her show of frustration and disapproval.

She laughed slightly. “Oh yes. I believe you, Ares, and I thank you for your honesty.”

“But . . .” Ares could tell by her voice that she wasn’t through speaking her mind.

She looked back at him. “But I almost wish I didn’t.” She stood, giving the impression that she was ready to leave.

“Huh? I don’t understand. I thought you wanted to know.”

“I do. But it just proves to me that you’re a god. You’ll always be a god, you can’t change that. Despite my feelings for you, it’s just not going to work.” She started towards the door.

Ares grabbed her arm and stopped her. “Why do you mean? We can make this work. I’ll lie to you no more.”

“I’m sure you won’t,” she said, shaking her arm free from his grasp. “However, did you even listen to what you were saying? It’s all about Ares. What you wanted. How you felt. Even as a mortal, you were still as selfish as a god. Did you ever stop to think about me? About my feelings? I fell in love with Aaron. Did it not occur to you that I would be devastated when I found out the truth? Aaron is gone now and I feel like I’ve lost my soul mate.”

“But I’m not dead. I’m right here, Eden. It was me that you fell in love with.”

“You just don’t get it, do you? You are not Aaron; you are Ares, a god, who lives the life of a god – not a mortal man. You can’t honestly think that things could be the same as before.” She shook her head, unable to believe that he actually would.

“Well . . .” Ares started thoughtfully.

“Nearly everything about you has been a deception – an illusion,” she continued. “Even after the fire, when I was hurting the most, you still kept your identity hidden from me. If you cared about me so much, as you claim, then why did you wait so long to heal me?”

“Well first of all, it obviously would have given me away, and I didn’t think you were ready for that at the time. And secondly, I thought it would benefit your training.”

“Once again, it’s what you thought was best. Never mind about all of the emotional turmoil I had to endure. What am I anyway, your puppet? A doll for you to play with?”

Ares was starting to become as angry as Eden. No matter what he told her, she seemed to twist it around and find the worst meaning in it.

“No,” he snapped. “It’s not like that. Besides, you can see now, so what’s the difference?”

“The difference is how it affected me. It’s something that is going to affect me for the rest of my life, Ares. But I guess that’s beyond your comprehension, being immortal and all, I’m sure those kinds of things have no bearing on gods,” she said sarcastically.

Eden was fuming by now. Perhaps this wasn’t such a good idea after all. She knew that he was being honest, and that he didn’t see if from her point of view, but each time he opened his mouth, his words made her more and more angry.

“I have to go.” She stomped towards the door, her arms swung at her side as she went.

“Where are you going?”

“I don’t know. Just as long as it’s away from you!” she said without looking back. There was such contempt in her voice.

The feeling of her anger gave the god mixed emotions. Part of him was turned on, inflamed by it, and part of him was hurt, devastated as watched her, once again, walking out on him.

He felt such a great sense of loss the moment she was out of his sight. “NNNOOO! I’m not letting you go this time, Eden,” he yelled. Suddenly, she was standing next to him again, right back where she started.

She was a little confused at first, but as soon as she realized what had happened, she started right for the door again. When she reached the door, he did it again.

“Knock it off, will you?” She headed for the door again.

“No. Not until you give me a chance to show you how I feel.” She had reached to door once again and this time when he brought her back, he tied her to the bed.

Eden glared at the god. “Oh, I see. You must feel that I’m your little pet or something.” She yanked at the ropes tied around her wrists. “Let me go, Ares.”

Ares couldn’t help but close his eyes for a moment as he absorbed her anger. It was so strong, so big coming from such a little woman. He would have never of thought her capable of such an amount. It only confirmed the fact that he knew she was going to be a great warrior one d

He moved to the bed and crawled over her, straddling her body with both arms and legs. His face directly above hers, he stared silently in to eyes, holding them captive.

“Shhh. Quiet now. Quit fighting me, Eden. I only want to please you.”

The sound of his voice was so rich and confident; it demanded submission, his authority apparent. It was the first time she ever heard it in that way and it made her cringe slightly in fear. She stared back into his eyes and could see his desire for her. She quickly turned her head, so she didn’t have to look at him.

Seeing how she so thoughtfully exposed her neck, Ares bent his head down and started kissing her flesh. He slowly lowered his body on top of hers and began to run his hands over her sides.

Silent tears slowly dripped from Eden’s eyes. “Please, Ares. Don’t do this to me. Please don’t do this,” she said, barely above a whisper.

The obvious agony in her voice made Ares stop and look at her. His expression held confusion and a bit of anger, too. He pushed himself up off of her.

“You really don’t want me, do you?” he asked, sounding surprised by the revelation.

She turned her head to look at him. There was real pain in her eyes. “You’ve already taken my virginity, my love, my life. There’s nothing left of me to have. Why can’t you just let me go?” she said calmly.

After a moment of thought, his expression turned soft. “Oh, Eden. You don’t really mean that.” He smiled. “You love me!” He lowered himself on to her again and resumed his actions. “Come on. Admit it. Say that you love me,” he said through his kisses.

Eden closed her eyes and fought the feelings of desire threatening to take over. She did love him, that was true, but she was so hurt, so confused, as well as angry and upset. She needed time to work through her feelings. She wasn’t sure if her love would be enough to overcome the betrayal she felt.

Ares kissed his way up to an ear and whispered huskily, “Come on. Say it, Eden. I know you want me.” He poked his tongue in her ear.

“No, stop.”

“Say it, Eden.”

“No.”

“Say it.” His hot breath kissed her ear.

Desire soon won over and Eden cried in defeat. “Damn you, Ares. You know I do.” She hated herself for giving in.

He continued to assault her ear with his mouth. “Then tell me that you want me,” he insisted.

Unable to resist him for another moment, she responded, “I want you, Ares. Gods, do I ever want you.”

With a thought from Ares, the ropes holding her to the bed disappeared, along with their clothing. She immediately wrapped her arms around him and kissed him in return. His hand slid down the length of her body, stopping to tease the nipple of her breast on that side. It continued down and around to her rear. He squeezed her ass, drawing her body closer to his.

Her breathing was heavy between the passionate kisses they gave one another. She grabbed fistfuls of his thick, raven hair in the heat of the moment, biting on his lower lip and then sucking it into her mouth.

He groaned pleasurably. His cock stiffened to full length against her stomach. He rolled his hips against her to stimulate it further and pre-cum leaked from the tip, wetting her skin. He started to kiss down her body.

“Oh, A..A..A..resssss,” she moaned and stopped him. “I need you inside of me. NOW,” she ordered.

He had no problem with that. He rolled off of her onto his back, putting his hands behind his head and smiled. His hard cock stuck up straight and firm.

“Then…ride me, baby,” he said teasingly.

She eyed him through narrowed, sexy eyes and crawled on top of him. She positioned herself so his dick nestled in the crook of her pussy, and leaned forward to kiss him again. She moved her ass up and down, rubbing his erection against her clit. Her body jerked in little sporadic movements as the sensations rushed through her.

Her excitement caused the god to feel anxious, himself. He grabbed her by the hair and made her look at him. “Ride me, Eden. Ride my big cock, baby,” he coaxed.

She lifted her hips and reached down to secure his shaft. Then she slowly lowered herself onto him.

“Oh, gods,” she cried as she sat up straight. “Oh, gods, that’s soooo good.”

He helped support her by holding her hips and then guided her up and down, up and down. Each time she came back down, his cock seemed to sink deeper into her hot depths.

“Oh, fuck!” she said with approval.

All Ares could do was grin. She looked so hot riding him like she was. Her hefty bosom bounced and jiggled with her movements, she threw her head around, wildly tossing her long hair around, and he had the perfect view of her hot little pussy swallowing his large muscle. Her juices spilled out around them, making his cock glisten and shine from the light. It was a very erotic image in his eyes and made him all the more excited.

Without warning, he came, shooting his liquid inside of her cunt. It too, leaked out around his shaft, the creamy whiteness contrasting with her clear lubrication. Very hot. Very hot, indeed.

Her pace began to slow, and he knew she was tiring. He released her hips and she rested her weight against him with his cock still inside of her. She leaned forward and kissed him again, this time rocking her hips back and forth so her clit rubbed against him.

A few moments later, he felt her muscles contract around him, and he knew she was cuming too. He hardened his cock again, using his powers, so she could have the full benefit of the experience. Her entire body vibrated on top of him. She shut her eyes tightly and bit her own lip.

“Oh – oh – oh – YES! BABY, YES!” she screamed. When she was done, she fully collapsed on him and his cock slipped out of her. The wet aftermath of their sex followed, leaving them both sticky, in a nasty kind of way.

He rubbed against her, causing the wetness to make sounds. “Mmmmm, baby. You are way hot. So fucking hot!” he praised.

“Yeah?” she said, raising one eyebrow. “Well, you’ve just got me started. Ready for some more, or do you need a break?” she teased. She rose on the hands and knees and started to assault his nipples with her teeth.

“Mmmmm,” he responded. “Eden, you beast! Am I gonna have to chain you up like an animal?”

She stopped and looked at him, smiling mischievously. “Sorry, you already had me in chains. But you let me go, remember? Now, you’ll have to suffer the consequences.” She returned to assaulting his chest again.

“What a bummer!” he laughed.

The sex between them that day was the best they had experienced with each other. But what pleased the god even more was the fact that they were communicating, even if it was in the oldest, most primal of ways. She was still there, with him, and they were getting along for the time being.

He could only hope it stayed that way.
