Chapter 9
The man had woken up two hours later and he seemed to be doing fine. Rick took a good look at the man. He was 5'9" and had brown short hair. He had a little bit of a bared.
"What's your name?" Rick asked
"Matt" The man said sitting up
"How many walkers have you killed?"
"I don't know, just a lot I guess." Matt said
"How many people have you killed?"
"None I never needed to." Matt answered
"What have you done?" Daryl asked
"I stole before if you count a pack of gum."
"That's it?" Rick asked
"Yeah that's it."
The others nodded and then took the IV's off.
"You can stay with us if you want or you can leave with some food." Rick said
"If it's ok I would like to stay and help out."
"Alright once you get your strength back up then you can pick your room and we can find you something to do. You can also have dinner in here." Rick then left the room
-TWD-
Everyone was at the dinner room and the food was brought out. They cut the turkey and everyone put what they wanted on their plates. Tara came back after taking a plate to Matt. Everyone then started eating. Even Judith got to eat real food after it was smashed up in to baby food. It was nice to have dinner all together.
"Ok so it looks like the pool will be up and working tomorrow. We got it all clean and patched up." Eugene said
"Sweet so we can swim?" Carl asked looking at his father
"We will see. I don't think it's a good idea using that much water." Rick said
"The pool has its own water tank and it's all set to be drained in to the pool. We don't even have to put chemicals in." Eugene said
"Alright but we wait and see."
Carl finished eating with a smile on his face. He loved swimming before the world ended and never thought he would again. After everyone was done they cleared off the table and then helped clean the dishes.
Noah went back to check on Matt and found him about done eating. He checked him over before allowing him to leave. Matt was looking for a room and saw Rick walking up stairs with Carl and Judith. He saw the boy and his eyes got wide.
"I finally found you Carl. This is just perfect." Matt smiled and then fallowed them
They made it to the third floor and then walked to room135 before unlocking it and going in. Once the door closed Matt walked next to it and decided to get room 137 which was right next door. He then went to get his key and then went to bed thinking of a plan to snatch Carl again.
"I told you I would find you and I did it just took a month to do it. I never stopped looking for you. If no one stole that car then I would have found you sooner but oh well better late than never right?"

Carl woke up in his bed. He was dripping wet but he didn't seem to have yelled or waken up anybody. He climbed out of the bed and walked in to the bathroom. He turned the light on and closed the door. He ran some cold water and splashed some on his face. He then took some deep breaths to calm himself down. After that he used the toilet before leaving the bathroom. Instead of going back to his room he went to his dad's. He snuck in to the bed and lay next to him and fell back to sleep.
Rick woke up the next morning to find Carl in the bed again. He must have had another nightmare from how wet his hair looked. He climbed out of the bed and covered Carl over with the blanket before going to take a shower.
Once he was finished showering he got dressed and then went and checked on his kids. They both were asleep so he decided to go down and bring some breakfast up. He grabbed his key and locked the door before going down.
Matt heard the door next to him open and closed and knew now was a good time to try and get in the room. He walked out and waited till Rick was long gone before going to the door and turning the handle but found it locked. Since he didn't have a key he went down stairs to get something to eat. He can always try later.
Carl woke up and looked around but couldn't find his dad. He got out of bed and checked on his sister before going and taking a shower. After he was clean and dress that's when he heard the door open and close. He stepped out and saw his dad carrying a tray of food.
"Good morning dad." Carl said sitting at the table
"Good morning to you Carl. Did you have another nightmare last night?" Rick asked putting the tray down and grabbing two plates
"Yeah I woke up soaked but I didn't scream or anything. I don't even remember it." Carl said looking down
"That's ok Carl you don't have to feel ashamed about it. It's normal and it will get better. Let's eat before Judith wakes and the pool is ready."
At the word pool Carl lit up and started eating. He couldn't wait to try out the pool. After they got done eating Judith woke up and Carl feed her this time. After that they made their way down to the pool area. Michonne, Tara, Rosita, Matt, Eugene, Noah, and Gabriel were already there. The rest were on watch. When Carl saw a new guy there he was about to freak out. Rick heard the hitch in Carl's breathing and knew a panic attack was coming on. That's when he saw Matt and remembered he didn't tell Carl.
"Carl take deep breaths everything is ok. You're safe here." Rick said turning Carl around so he couldn't see Matt
"Carl listen to your dad. Everything is fine." Michonne said then turned to Rick "What happened?"
"I didn't tell him about Matt. I forgot all about him." Rick said
Carl tried to calm down but he was having trouble breathing. It felt like someone was chocking him.
"D … Dad … can't … breath." Carl tried to get out
Noah ran over to them and made Carl sit and put his head between his legs. He then told Carl to count to 10 slowly. When Carl did what he was told it started to get easier. After a minuet he was fine but out of breath. He then looked up to see Michonne and his dad looking at him.
"I'm sorry I saw the new guy and freaked out." Carl apologized
"It's ok Carl, I forgot to tell you. Glenn and Carol found him and his name is Matt. He wanted to stay and help out." Rick said
"Did he past the three questions?"
"Yeah he never killed anyone and he never counted how many walkers he killed. We will keep a close watch on him to make sure. If you don't want to be around him just say so and we will make sure."
Carl nodded but said it was fine. They then got up and walked over to the others. Carl stayed next to Rick but away from Matt. He didn't trust this dude. He saw the man watching him and he felt like the man was seeing him through his clothes. Eugene tested the water and gave the ok to get in. Carl jumped in and forgot all about Matt. He splashed Michonne and she did the same. Rick got in with Judith and smiled when he looked at Carl. He knew his boy would get better. He seemed to be doing ok now. Judith splashed him and was kicking happily. This was going to be a good day.
Matt watched Carl play with the others and couldn't wait to take him again. He was thrilled when the boy freaked out when he saw him. At first he thought his cover was blown but then found out the kid didn't even know his face. He was just scared of new people. He relaxed in the pool just watching the others play but keeping an eye on Carl.

Daryl walked around the grounds checking the fences and traps when he saw the first walker since being here. He aimed his bow and lined up the arrow with the walker's face and then fired.
"Bull's eye!" Daryl yelled
He then went out of the gate and retrieved the arrow. Once back on the other side he locked it and finished his round. He then met back up with Glenn at the lookout post.
"I got a walker on the south side. First one I've seen since we've been here."
"Hopefully we won't have many more than that. I'll let Rick know when he comes to take his sift." Glenn said
"Do you know how Carl is doing? I haven't really seen him that much. He's mostly with the girls cooking now.
"Same here, I think he might just be afraid of men right now. I don't blame him for it. Rick says he still has nightmares and wakes up screaming in cold sweats. Just tell him you are here when he needs to talk. Just don't push him. We saw what happens when you do."
Daryl agreed with Glenn and would try to talk with Carl when he saw him later. He had missed out on talking with the teen. Daryl then walked back in to the hotel to see if there was anything he could help out with.

Back at the pool area Rick saw that Judith was getting fussy and would need to be fed soon. He got out of the pool and wrapped Judith in a towel before signaling Michonne that he was leaving and to keep an eye on Carl. He then slipped out leaving the rest to play.
Carl was having fun jumping in and getting Michonne all wet. He saw his dad leave with his sister but he wasn't ready to leave. He knew he was safe with the others around but that Matt guy gave him the creeps. He swam to the ladder and climbed out before jumping back in.
"Cannonball!" Carl yelled
Michonne covered her eyes and laughed when the water splashed at her.
"I'm going to get you Carl Grimes." Michonne yelled
She grabbed Carl and started tickling him. Carl laughed trying to get away. They were having so much fun they never saw Matt watching them the whole time.
"I think we will be leaving now. See you guys later." Tara and Rosita said
"See you later." Carl said
"I think I'm going to, too much water." Eugene said
It wasn't long before that when the rest left leaving Michonne, Carl and Matt in the pool. Matt went next to the two and started talking to them.
"So are you related or just friends?'
"Friends" Michonne said when Carl didn't say anything
"Have you guys been here long or did you just find this place."
"We've been here a while."
"Sorry if I scared you earlier. I didn't know there were kids here." Matt said to Carl
Carl just shrugged and moved closer to Michonne. Why was this guy talking to him? Didn't he see he didn't want to talk?
"Are you ok?" Matt asked
"He just doesn't want to talk." Michonne spoke up when she felt Carl tense up
"Alright sorry, I can talk too much, when I do just tell me to shut up." Matt smiled
"Can we go?" Carl said wanting to get away from the guy
"Yeah we can go. See you later Matt." Michonne said
They got out and each wrapped a towel around themselves before leaving the pool area. Michonne kept an eye on Carl wondering if he was feeling ok.
"Are you ok Carl?"
"Yeah it's just that guy gives me the creeps is all. His voice is like the one that took me."
"You do know that guy is dead right?"
"Yeah but I never saw his face, what if it wasn't the right guy? What if the guy that did that was in here right now?" Carl asked he couldn't stop thinking about that
"Carl you need to let that go. If you keep thinking like that then it's going to drive you insane. Now I will keep an eye on this Matt dude but you need to try and stop thinking about the what ifs."
"How do I do that?" Carl asked walking up the stairs to the third floor
"Have you talked with anyone besides us girls and your dad?
"No not really. Daryl tried but I got scared and went to cook with you guys." Carl admitted
"Why not try with that. Go talk with Daryl; he likes it when you hang with him. He is a kid inside after all." They both laughed at that part
When Carl got quiet she tried again
"Is it because he's a guy? You think he might hurt you like that man did."
When she got a nod from Carl she stopped him and turned him to face her.
"Now listen Carl, not all men are like that. Yes there are but just a very few. Now you knew Daryl for a long time, has he ever hurt you or touched you that you didn't like? Has any of these men here that you knew for a long time ever done anything like that?"
"No." Carl whispered
"Then they won't now. You can trust them. You don't have to be scared of them because of some guy that is dead now." Michonne said
Carl gave Michonne a hug and thanked her. He was going to give the others another chance now that he understood. He didn't have to fear every man he saw.
They made it to Carl's door and knocked on it when they found it locked. The door opened and Carl walked in after telling Michonne thank you for walking with him. Rick also thanked her and then closed the door.
