Two Weeks Later
Ryan and I arrived home from Shreveport safe and sound, breaking our good news to Jack when he met us at the airport. He was unsurprised but congratulatory, and we had picked up some champagne on our way home to celebrate when we returned to the store and placed the stake in the vault. Ryan and I were still pretty high off vampire blood, so it tasted just fantastic. So much so that Jack had wondered if we were drinking the same beverage. “Must be love.” We laughed giddily as Jack shot us a look.
We were ‘high’ for a good five days. Ryan and I spent a lot of that time in our bedroom, though we did engage in research activities when Jack asked. The dreams have been pretty intense. Eric Northman has invaded my sleeping mind fully, and it hasn’t really let up as the rest of the effects of the vampire blood has. Last night I dreamt that I was lounging in a large clam shell like Venus as a nude Eric ravaged my body and sucked my blood from my groin.
I’m deathly curious about Ryan’s dreams with Pam, but we still don’t ask. For the most part, we’ve just been enjoying being together. We got back into the swing of our lives, just now we sleep in the same bed (among other things) and he washes my hair weekly. It’s been lovely. Even after the vampire blood wore off.
We’ve returned home after retrieving a cursed desk fan from the 1930’s that spits out $50s when you sprinkle the blood of your victim on it. Luckily, we were able to break in to his house and steal it from the offender without incident. We thanked our lucky stars for his gambling addiction. He would be out all night. It was perfect. Ryan and I place the fan in the vault and make our way upstairs. Jack is still out at the library, doing research on a cursed first edition of Edgar Allen Poe’s collection titled Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque Volume One. We have a good idea of who might be in possession of it, and would rather be armed with the right information when we do confirm that we’ve tracked it down. Just another day in the life.
We reach our bedroom and Ryan attacks me in a kiss that I respond to enthusiastically. I’m reaching down to his waistband as we inch our way toward the bed when he stops me from pulling his t-shirt off. “Micki, I think there’s someone on the balcony.” Ryan whispers.
I feel a little terror at this, it wouldn’t be the first time someone’s broken in this way. “Go get the pistol.” I whisper back. We had recently invested in a small .22 to better defend ourselves against cursed objects and their owners.
“You’re going to pull a pistol on me, Ryan?” We hear Eric’s amused voice on the other side of the curtains to the balcony, “After all we’ve meant to each other?”
My relief is measurable. Ryan and I make our way to the balcony’s windows and pull back the curtains to reveal Eric and Pam on the other side.
“Aren’t y’all gonna invite us in?” Pam says impatiently, “I hate to stand on ceremony, but sometimes I have to, being a goddammed vampire and all.”
“Eric, Pam, please come in.” I say, my heart skipping a little at seeing Eric again after all of the dreams I’ve been having.
Ryan looks a little taken aback as well. We had just been talking yesterday about how we’d probably never see them again. But now they’re stepping in through the window and standing in our bedroom in front of us.
“What can we say, we missed you.” Eric deadpans as he looks us up and down. I can’t help but blush a little. “How’s the cursed antique hunting going?”
“Swell.” Ryan answers, “We just put another one in the vault before you got here.”
“Busy little bees.” Eric smiles, “Is Mr. Marshak around?”
“He’s out researching another object.” I tell Eric, “How have you two been?”
“As good as we can be, living in Shreveport and running a video store.” Pam rolls her eyes, “But the drama is over, for now, at least.”
“Well, that’s good to hear.” Ryan says, then averts his gaze quickly away from Pam. This makes my curiosity about his dreams increase another notch. I know mine about Eric have been pretty out of control; I can only imagine what his must be like with her. I can’t help but feel a little jealous, and slide my arm possessively around his waist.
“And we’re still kissing cousins, I see.” Eric remarks.
“Yes, Ryan and I are in a relationship.” I tell them, trying not to let my defensiveness show.
“Good for you. Pam and I have been together 84 years. Relationships, in my experience, are fluid. Just as you two are ours.” Eric states.
“We’re still yours?” I ask, a little confused. I thought the scope of the arrangement ended in Shreveport.
“We ain’t givin’ you up that easy, Sugar. Y’all are just, too sweet.” Pam smiles predatorially.
“In your line of work, you should be glad to have knowledge of my assistance in case of emergency.” Eric stares into our eyes, “And I am more than happy to help. I do owe you two, after all.”
Well, having insurance in the form of a powerful, 1,000-year-old vampire isn’t really a bad idea. And honestly, I’d rather not be on their bad side. Ryan must agree with my sentiment, because he nods, “I’m okay with this. Micki?”
“Me too.” I agree.
Pam and Eric smile, teleporting in front of us, then the next thing we know we are settled across the mattress, Pam kneeling on the left side with Ryan and Eric on the right side with me as our heads align in the center of the bed. In a snap, our pants are down and they’re sucking the blood from our inner thighs. Wow. I forgot how uncannily good this feels. Hmm, I suppose this is another mutual benefit of being theirs. Ryan and I will just have to start up the B vitamin regimen again. Eric and Pam switch their positions, Pam biting into the alternate thigh as Eric does the same to Ryan. Ryan’s face meets mine and we exchange an upside-down kiss as my vision gets narrower and the relaxed bliss comes over me. Lovely.
Pam releases me, stabbing her finger with her fang and running her blood over the marks on my thigh as Eric does the same to Ryan. “As always, delicious.” Eric croons as Ryan and I slowly pull our pants back up from our ankles.
“Ditto.” Pam drawls.
“Micki! Ryan!” we hear Jack coming up the stairs.
“Oh good. Mr. Marshak.” Eric smiles as Ryan and I stand from the bed. The four of us make our way through the French doors, Ryan and I still a bit dizzy as Pam and Eric glance around the kitchenette.
“Quaint.” Pam acknowledges before Jack appears at the top of the stairs.
“Hi Jack.” Ryan says as Jack seems surprised by our guests.
“Mr. Marshak. So good to see you again.” Eric greets, “I’d like you to meet my progeny, Pamela Swynford De Beaufort. Pam, Jack Marshak.”
“Charmed, I’m sure.” Pam says in her bored tone, surveying Jack and extending her hand.
He shakes her hand gently, “Nice to meet you, Ms. Swynford De Beaufort.” Jack is cautious, and I understand why. He hasn’t had the best vampire experiences in his lifetime, so he has reasons to be wary of Pam and Eric, in spite of what Ryan and I had told him about our interactions with them.
“Pam and I happened to be in town and thought we’d drop in and see how our favorite cursed antique hunters are doing.” Eric explains, giving Jack a charming smile, “Along with reinforcing our offer of protection, of course.”
Eric is gazing into Jack’s eyes and Jack becomes visibly agreeable, “We thank you for the help.” Jack says dreamily.
I’m a little miffed at Eric for glamouring Jack like that, but of course I won’t let on. It wouldn’t be smart.
“Well, I hate to suck and run, but Eric, we should go.” Pam says, placing her hands on her hips and giving Eric an expectant look, “It’s burnin’ moonlight.”
“Pam is right. We thank you for having us, but it’s time to make our exit.” Eric agrees.
Eric and Pam appear before Ryan and I in a blur, granting us kisses as a dreamy, confused Jack looks on. Pam releases me from her kiss and is in front of Jack in a flash, “Mr. Marshak. You are okay with Micki and Ryan being our humans.” She says soothingly, holding him in a trance, “In fact, you approve of it wholeheartedly.”
“Yes.” Comes his hypnotized voice, “I approve wholeheartedly.”
“Good. I knew you looked smart.” Pam drawls, smirking at him before appearing next to Eric in another blink of an eye.
“Until next time.” Eric smiles, giving me a wink, “Have the sweetest of dreams.”
“Yeah. Later.” Pam’s tone is nonchalant, and then they are gone, another blur out of the open window in our bedroom.
Ryan and I look at each other, still pretty dizzy from their feast, and shake our heads, “Those two.” Ryan says in a musing tone.
I’m still slightly shaking my head, “It appears that we’re stuck with them now, huh?”
Hey, it could be worse. It could *always* be worse.
“Jack, are you okay?” Ryan asks a still-dreamy looking Jack.
He snaps out of his state, “Of course I’m okay, Ryan. Why wouldn’t I be?” Jack says, confused, “Our friends left?”
“They move quick.” I tell Jack in a small laugh.
“The first vampires that I trust wholeheartedly.” Jack says in wonder, “I suppose there is a first time for everything.”
Ryan and I exchange looks and laugh a little along with him. We also have had plenty of ‘firsts’ in the past couple of weeks, so we agree with his glamoured statement. We’re just in a different lived experience regarding Eric and Pam. He doesn’t need to know the full extent of it, anyway. Just that they will protect us if we’re in danger. That’s the most important part, anyway.
Our future looks incredibly interesting. Well, at least we’re in it together.
Aaaaaaaand, it’s the End! Oh, the humanity!
“I am wearing a Walmart sweat suit for y’all. If that’s not a demonstration of Team Spirit, I don’t know what is.” -Pam, “True Blood”
