Lilly walked into The Blue Dollar, which was constructed to look like a classic 1950s diner, and up to the countre. The lobby or dining area was mostly empty, save for a few diners. She looked around the one side of the room and mentally noted the street and parking lot, to her back, as well as where Tracy described Cory and Carolyn sitting. When the register girl came up to take her order, she flashed her badge and asked to speak to the manager. When the manager came out from the back kitchen area, she introduced herself and asked to talk in private. "I'd like to see the tape of the dining area, from yesterday. I'm investigating a possible kidnapping and the victim and suspects were both seen leaving here around 11.30 yesterday morning." She asked as Lori Beth Shillings, the manager of 14 years, closed the office door behind them.
Sighing and sitting down, Lori Beth turned around and queued the tape from the day before. "About 11.30? We had several dine-ins at that time. Our lunch crowd was just picking up." She sighed as she fast forwarded the tape to 11AM. "Here's 11."
Lilly stood beside her and watched the tape. "Those two." Catching Cory's jacket and blond-ish hair from the black and white monitor. She pointed to Cory as Lori Beth paused it. She noted that Carolyn sat facing the direction of the camera whilst Cory sat with his back to it. Carolyn also had a twitch of looking around the room, nervously. They had a conversation about something to where Cory kept shaking his head and reaching out to hold Carolyn's hand, in effort to calm her. "Let it run." She added, patiently. She had Lori Beth pause it again as Carolyn got up and kissed Cory goodbye and a minute later, a disheveled man came up from behind Cory and sat down, next to him. "Pause it." She said as both men stood up and turned around to leave, noting the man with Cory. "Can I get a copy of this tape?"
"Yeah." Lori Beth removed the tape from the machine and handed it to Lilly. "We usually close around 6. Not much else happened the rest of the day. Anything else I can help you with?" She turned to look up at the detective. Her long auburn hair had been pulled back into a braid and was coming undone from the long hours she had put in, before opening at 9.
Marking the tape with a sticker, from her pocket, Lilly then looked back at Lori Beth. "Yes, is the waitress who served them, here today?" She stepped back as Lori Beth stood.
Lori turned around and reached for the clipboard on her paper-strewn desk to check the roster for the day. "Yes. If you'll come with me." She lead Lilly back out of the small, cramped room and pulled the waitress aside. "Doreen. This detective has a few questions about the couple at table 9, yesterday."
The 40ish waitress looked over at the now empty corner booth and nodded knowingly. "Ah, yeah. Those two are always there. Their favourtie place to sit. Sometimes, he meets her and sometimes she meets him. Always at that table." A corner of her mouth lifted with the spirit of young love.
"Did you see who met whom, yesterday? Around 11?" Lilly asked as she scribbled notes in her notepad.
Doreen wrinkled her nose in thought. "Yep. She met him. She looked kinda upset, too. I guess she and the other fella had it out and she was crying on his shoulder." Pushing her 60s fab glasses up and popping her gum, she put her hands on her hips, her eyes never leaving the empty table.
"What other fella?" Lilly looked up from her writing, confused.
Wrinkling her nose again, in thought, Doreen sighed as she described the man. "He was tall, older. Like much older. Could be her dad. Had a gravelly voice and salt and pepper hair."
Lilly knew exactly who Doreen was talking about and it gave her chills. "When was he here?"
"Eh, couple days ago, I think. They were talking up a storm. She was all cuddly towards him. They split a large fry and a shake together and then took off in a car." Doreen looked uneasy about the conversation Carolyn and older man had.
"Any idea what they were talking about?"
Sighing again and shaking her head, Doreen looked over at Lilly writing in her notepad. "No, sorry. They were real hush-hush about it."
Lilly took a breath and looked towards the door as the midmorning crowd started filing in sporatically. "Thank you, both, for your time." Closing her notepad and tuckig it into a pocket, Lilly smiled and quietly headed back to her car, looking around the small parking lot and then the street, trying to see where a good hiding spot would have been, had Justin been waiting for Cory, if he arrived there ahead of them. So far, none she found were good angles, unless he hid from across the street and watched them. She had paid close attention to Carolyn, as she and Cory were chatting, and found several gestures that didn't seem to fit the scene. With a sigh, she headed back to the precinct with the tape, eager to look at it more closely.

"So, Shannon and Cory helped you escape." Kat folded her arms in front of her and leant on the table.
Jessica nodded. "I was pretty cold and scared that I forgot all about getting my stuff and I just split. The look on her face, when I came back with the police was that of sheer relief. We had to deal with her boys, she had to deal with Vince, 24/7. It's a miracle she wasn't gray back then." Bowing her head and closing her eyes, she took a breath and thanked God she made it out alive. "I think she wanted out just as much as we did but Vince kept her on a tight leash, you know? There were several times we didn't see her for days and when we did, she had rope burns on her wrists and ankles."
Stillman sat quietly and listened. He had had an idea to get Jessica and Shannon to work together but wasn't sure how the two women would do so close to each other, in a confined room. "Do you know what happened between them, to earn her those?"
Shaking her head, Jessica shrugged. "With him, it was anything. If his food was late, or if she was on the rag and said no, or if she back talked him too loudly. He's not a stable guy. If he has Cory, I don't think he'd hesitate to do something horrible to him, maybe even kill him." She had amased herself that, for once, she was concerned for Cory's safety.
"We tried to find the ranger that helped you but the forest service said Wilbur was killed by a drunk driver in the winter of 1987." Stillman added. He had also spent hours watching the trial tapes and recounting his notes of witness testimonies, in hopes to gain some knowledge of Vince. So far, he had accomplished a little more than what he originally knew. "Mrs Claremont, Jessica, would you feel comfortable talking with Shannon, and helping us find Cory and Vince?" Stillman asked, hoping she would agree but understanding if she said no.
Jessica was silent and only stared at Stillman as if being shot by an invisible bullet. Worry and terror now plainly seen on her face. She swallowed as her mouth went dry.
"We understand if you don't want to but, we may end this sooner, if we all work together. Both Shannon and Cory would appreciate it." Stillman shifted in his chair but never lost eye contact from her. "What you tell her or don't, is up to you."
Closing her eyes and not believing what she was doing, Jessica nodded. Shannon hadn't been Jessica's idea of the best mother but then, neither she or Cory deserved to be chained to Vince's side for his crimes. "We aren't friends but, okay. I owe Cory that much."

Kat opened the door to the interview room and stepped in and to the side, letting Jessica enter behind her. "Shannon, Jessica has agreed to compare notes with you to help us find Vince." She had opened the door and walked in as Shannon paced the length of the room, becoming increasingly worried about her son. Offering Jessica a chair across from Shannon, she, herself, sat down between them to mediate, if needed.
Shannon had spent an hour sitting in the room, by herself but with a guard in the room, as well. She had been going stir crazy and was starting to feel a suspect, the more she was ignored. "Should I assume that I'm to be treated as a suspect, then? Clearly, you're not in a rush to find my son." She sounded hoarse and exasperated from worry. She stopped in midpace and faced Kat with a tight expression, not letting the woman see her pain.
"No, of course not. Please, sit down." Jessica spoke before sitting down in the offered chair.
With a deep sigh and a shake of her head, Shannon rubbed a hand over her forehead but eventually sat down and eyed the woman across from her. "Okay. Where do you propose we start?"
Jessica shifted in her seat. The room was cold, unfriendly, and the unease in Shannon's stare made her uncomfortable. "Why did you help me, that day?"
"I tried to help all you girls out. Half the time, I got shoved back under the category of 'Vince's little wrangler.' I watched you eyeing that spade for a few days. I also watched Tessa, Erin, Daisy, even Carla and June trying to make a run for it." Shannon paused and shook her head. Her chest hurt with the weight finally coming to light. "Daisy even made it to his truck before Vince got hold of her. Her water broke as she held on to the truckbed and screamed. Her boy was a breech."
Kat checked her notes in her small notepad she held. Grabbing her pen from her pocket, she got read to write. "What happened to June? Whose 'wife' was she?"
Hanging her head and staring at the table in front of her, Shannon had wanted the day to be overwith. "She was Cory's first wife. She was a sweet young woman that wanted to be a ballet dancer. The boys went out hunting, one day, and when they came back, Cory found her hanging by the light fixture, in his bedroom. That... scared him pretty bad." She raised her head and eyes to stare at the ceiling, as if begging forgiveness.
"Is that what started his idea of helping them?"
Shannon shook her head. "He had a sister. A twin sister. She was pretty with little blonde curls and just the biggest blue eyes you've ever seen. Cady. The boys always played too rough with her but, she never complained. One day, they were down by the creek, playing, and Cory came running in and grabbed Vince and pulled him down to where they were playing. Cady had slipped and hit her head on a rock. Justin had gotten too agressive and it was too much for her. He brought her home and she was just screaming all night. That was the just about the only time I ever saw Vince cry. And then, she was quiet. Cory begged and pleaded with her to be okay. He told me he was sorry for letting her play with them. After that, Cory was terrified to touch a girl. The boys gave him shit and so did Vince." She leveled her head and stared at Jessica as she continued. "He never wanted to hurt any of you and he put up with a lot of shit because of it." She turned to Miller and sighed. "Now, would you please help me find my son?"

Lilly stepped into the observation room, where Stillman stood and watched the chat between Shannon and Jessica. "Got a copy of the tape from The Blue Dollar. I think it's possible Carolyn is mixed up with Justin and Vince. The waitress said she remembers seeing an older man come in with Carolyn, before Cory's abduction. From what she described, it sounded like Vince to a 'T'. How'd everything go here?"
"Jessica agreed to talk to Shannon to compare notes. So far, we gained more insight to Cory as to why he tried to help the women escape. Might have a lead on Vince's weakness." He stared at the women in the room and then turned to look at Lilly. "Sent Vera and Will down to Major Crimes to help quell the phone calls and picket lines out front, about the Parkers being loose in the streets. Scotty went to watch Shannon and Cory's place to see if Justin or Vince would try anything. No news yet." Stillman checked his watch and then turned back to watch Shannon and Jessica.
Nodding and looking over at Shannon, who sat calmly and chatted with Jessica, Lilly wondered aloud. "Think they will?" She turned back to stare at his profile.
Stillman shook his head. "Even in prison, Vince seemed pretty determined to get back at Cory. His testimony, alone, was pretty damning to Vince and the other two boys. I did manage to speak to the ranger service and ask about how Vince came by the uniforms, the women described. Apparently, Vince shared the compound with his little sister and parents. His dad was a ranger in the 40s and 50s. The uniform in evidence was one they used in the early 1950s. It was discontinued after Shannon went missing, in '59. CSU hasn't found any other trace of any of the other girls or Vince Parker's family."
Shrugging and turning back to see Shannon staring seemingly at them, behind the glass, Lilly added. "Maybe Shannon knows?"
As Stillman made his way to the door into the interview room, Scotty walked in with a suspect he had handcuffed and called in for back-up with.
"Look who decided to make an appearance. Caught this punk driving Cory's truck, trying to dupe Shannon into thinking it was Cory coming home." Scotty held Justin by the right arm and squeezed it tightly as Justin trying in vain to squirm out of the man's grip.
Justin shrugged and yanked his arm away. "Let go of me! I was just there to see my ma!" He lowered his voice and stared pointedly at Scotty. "As any good son would be." He had shaved and combed his hair back into a ponytail, hidden under his gray hoodie's hood. He looked younger, like the 22-year-old that stood in front of the court to plea his innocence. As he stood there, in the squadroom, his clothes were dirty, like he had been crawling around in the woods for a week.
Scotty nodded and scoffed at the statement. "In your brother's stolen vehicle. Not to mention, you don't even have a driver's license and people are looking for you and your father. Yea, you're the prodigal son." He shoved Justin toward the empty Interview Room and added. "We'll be sure to let her know you're a stand up guy."
Again, Justin shrugged off Scotty's grip and turned to look around the room. "She's here? Where is she? I wanna see her!"
"We'll tell her you stopped by." Lilly smiled as Scotty and another officer guided Justin in the room and shut the door behind them.
