Erin entered the precinct filled with trepidation, her gaze sweeping over the officers and inmates mingling within the large space.
Her chest constricted with unease as she observed their movements, questioning her ability to navigate this unfamiliar environment. Erin swallowed hard, shifting her focus to the front desk where Sergeant Platt was engrossed in paperwork.
Approaching the desk tentatively, Erin greeted Platt before heading upstairs. Perhaps a conversation with the seasoned sergeant would bolster her courage to face the male-dominated bullpen.
Platt's attention was drawn to a gentle tap on the counter, her expression softening upon recognizing Erin. "Erin, how are you holding up?" she inquired.
"I'm trying," Erin replied with a sigh, leaning against the counter. "I'm still struggling to regain my composure and overcome my insecurities."
"Don't belittle yourself, Erin," Platt said gently. "You've endured a harrowing experience.”
"Should I call Hank?" Platt inquired, concerned that returning might be too soon for Erin. "Perhaps he'll extend your leave."
Erin shook her head, a gentle smile on her face. "No, I'll be fine. I need to be here. I've missed so much." She paused. "Besides, nothing should happen." She hoped, but knew her team would never intentionally harm her.
Despite her words, the brunette knew that Antonio, Jay, Al, and the others would keep a watchful eye on her. Their protectiveness made her grateful, but Erin longed for normalcy. She wasn't a fragile victim.
Smiling at Platt, Erin headed upstairs. She greeted Kim and Roman as she passed, flinching slightly when Roman approached Platt. She trusted the blond officer, but his proximity triggered unease.
"Erin?" Kim whispered, noticing the flicker of fear in the older woman's hazel eyes.
Erin shook her head and smiled at Kim. "I'm okay. Sorry if I'm keeping you from work," she said.
Kim shook her head. "Don't be. Hey, maybe we can go for lunch and catch up if you're up for it."
"That'd be great. I'll let you know what I'm doing and we can decide then," Erin said with a smile. She figured it wouldn't hurt, and besides, it was only Kim.
Kim nodded with a smile and patted Erin on the shoulder before walking over to Platt. "I'll have Trudy come with us. Maybe we can make it a girls' day," she said.
Erin smiled. "I'm up for that. Maybe we can see if Brett, Gabby, and Stella would want to join, and maybe Maggie, Natalie, April, and even Sharon."
Erin nodded, happy to have something that would help her get back to her old self. "I'd love that. But no boys," she said with a laugh.
Kim laughed. "Well, that's why it's called a girls' day."
Erin nodded and made her way up to the bullpen after talking with Kim, which helped calm her nerves.
( In Voight's office with Antonio, Voight and Al)
Antonio leaned against the window in Voight's office with Al and Voight. "I don't want you to tell anyone about this," Voight said, his gaze falling on Erin as she entered the bullpen. He watched as Adam embraced her, his expression hardening.
"He escaped?" Al asked, his fists clenched.
Voight shook his head. "No, someone bailed him out." He was troubled by the fact that Ty Henley was now at large.
Antonio frowned. "Who would bail out a dangerous criminal?" He glanced at Erin, who had taken her seat. "How are we going to keep this from her?" he wondered, concerned about the potential impact on her.
"We're not telling her," Voight said firmly. "As long as we keep her occupied and Henley stays away, we should be fine.”
Antonio nodded, reluctant to keep Erin from this, but he understood. He preferred to keep it secret rather than risk Erin getting hurt.
"We do have a case," Voight said, changing the subject. "It's not major, but it's something to gauge Erin's capabilities." Antonio nodded in agreement. "I'm assigning her to you today, Tony," Voight continued.
Antonio nodded again, sensing that Voight didn't trust Jay, Erin's former partner, in this situation. Despite blaming himself for what had happened, he knew it wasn't Jay's fault.
Sighing, Antonio left the office as Voight and Al walked out.
( Outside the office)
Erin was greeted warmly by her colleagues. She couldn't help but smile as Adam, the playful detective, hugged her.
"It's great to see you back, Lindsay," Antonio greeted with a smile. "Thanks," she replied, smiling back.
Antonio smiled. "Who knows what would happen if you stayed away longer?" he joked. "But I know these goofballs wouldn't behave." He nodded towards Adam and Kevin, who were joking around.
Erin laughed. "I'm sure they're not that bad," she said, leaning back and looking at Jay. He avoided her gaze, causing her to frown.
She watched as Antonio sat at his desk next to hers. She turned to face the front as Voight stood by the board.
"We have a small case today," Voight said, his hands in his pockets.
"What's it about?" Jay asked, leaning forward.
"Nothing special," Voight replied. "We're checking up on local gangs to ensure they're not causing trouble.”
Jay nodded. "And we're adding a new member to Intelligence to be your partner, Halstead," Voight announced.
Halstead looked both confused and grateful. Erin's frown deepened. Why was she not Jay's partner anymore? Had she done something to offend him?
"What about Erin?" Adam inquired, catching Erin's confused and hurt expression.
"I'm assigning her to Tony," Voight replied evenly. "It's beneficial to rotate partners occasionally."
"What's wrong with being with Jay?" Erin interrupted. She looked at Voight, then at Jay, who didn't appear upset by the change.
Voight turned to Erin. "It's nothing personal, Erin. I just think you and Tony can work together for a while."
Jay spoke up. "Who's my new partner?" Voight nodded toward Erin, knowing he should have informed her that her sister was joining the team. They needed an additional member.
Erin started to protest Jay getting a new partner. She sensed that Voight blamed him for a recent incident. However, she was interrupted by a familiar voice from the break room.
"That'll be me," a new voice announced. Erin's eyes widened as she recognized the new detective. "Jamie?" she said in confusion.
Jamie looked at her sister and smiled. "Hey, Erin. It's been a while," the blonde said. Erin looked at her confused. "What are you doing here?”
