A response to the 200 words Mars challenge.
Impossible.
It was an impossible dream Connie knew that, but she kept it locked inside her heart. If things had been different, if they’d met before her life had become fucked up by drugs and whoring.
Sometimes when she was with a john she’d close her eyes and pretend it was Vic. Sometimes she’d look at Brian and pretend that Vic was his dad, not some anonymous $25 back-alley fuck.
He cared for her, but not the way she wanted him to. He looked at her with compassion, but not with love.
She loved him, with every fibre of her being. He was the only man in her entire life who’d treated her like a human being. From her father, to the guys in high school, to her pimp, to her customers, all she was was something to fuck.
If the only kind of connection she could get with him, the only form of partnership she could share with him, was by being his informant than Connie would take it. At least that way he needed her just a little bit.
Connie envied Vic’s wife, and dreamed her impossible dream, that if things had been different it might have been her.
