She smiled as she brought up the last box, looking around her
apartment.
Her apartment.
Her smiled widened at that. Shed waited so long to get out from
under her mother, and now she had. Shed
moved to a new city, where no one knew her to start fresh, start new. She began unpacking,
not that she had much, and thought about what all she could do with all this space. Boston
was a historical town, with lots to see, and lots to do. Maybe shed even go to a few
nightclubs, check the scene. She giggled, thinking that sounded absolutely absurd.
There was a knock on the door and she looked at it for a moment, she
wasnt expecting anyone. Hell, she didnt even know anyone. She sat there for a
few more minutes, before curiosity got the better of her and she got up, walking over to
the door.

The human body holds about four and a half liters of blood, more or
less depending on weight. In general, blood indeed is aqua vitae. It carries oxygen in the hemoglobin; nutrients in
plasma; when there is a disruption to our skin, the platelets immediately bind together to
stop excess bleeding; during time of infection, white blood cells devour bacteria and dead
cells, purging our body of wastes.
But when its spilt in large volumes, the difference between it
and other liquids is apparent.
Without an anticoagulant, the blood begins to clot immediately,
whether or not you yourself are still alive. It changes from dark red to brown and black;
bright red to the same if its from an artery; spurts or gently pulses out depending
on the same factor. Once it hits the air, it smells strongly of copper, a smell that
instinctively brings on nausea in most people. Add to that it splashed and smeared on the
walls, and you can only imagine what the apartment now looked like.
Anyone call the MEs office yet?
Theyre on their way detective.
He turned back to the scene, not wanting to breathe through his
mouth, and not wanting to inhale more of the smell either, Christ.
