Title: A New Addition
Author: Carolyn
Summary: After hearing that Kelli Williams is pregnant again, I felt compelled to write my ideas of how it could be worked into the script. I probably won’t deal with the whole pregnancy, just a bit. Let me know if you want me to continue it.
Disclaimer: If it was mine, Linds would still be at DYD&F and we’d actually see the babies once in awhile!
Bobby walked into his office and shut the door. As he did, five pairs of eyes turned to him and he shifted. “Morning.”
“Morning,” Jimmy and Jamie replied as they both turned back to their work.
Ellenor nodded as she was on the phone and Lucy smiled at him. “Morning. You have a couple messages on your desk. How’s Lindsay?”
Bobby gave his secretary a strange look. “She’s okay...why are you asking?”
“Well we never see her anymore.” Lucy missed the verbal sparring that they’d done before Lindsay moved next door. Lindsay was the safest one to provoke. Not that Lucy was afraid of them anymore, but Lindsay was the most willing to pass time by bantering. During her pregnancy, when Bobby had been hovering and not letting her take any cases right after William Hinks had been killed, she and Lindsay had both been bored and somehow ended up having a paper clip war. It had ended fairly quickly though when Lindsay launched one with a rubber band and it hit Eugene who was storming in from court. He’d stopped, turned slowly, and glared at her the way he did DA’s. Lindsay had smiled apologetically and they’d stopped for fear of hurting someone. Lucy also missed the daily updates on Bobby Jr. Bobby tended to shut himself in his office and she felt a little strange going in there just to ask about the baby.
Bobby raised an eyebrow at Lucy. “You do realize that she works right next door? There’s even a door between the offices! You could always go over and visit her...”
Lucy nodded. “Maybe I’ll do that at lunch then.”
Bobby nodded and started walking towards his office when what Lucy’d said registered. “Oh, wait. You can’t today. Lindsay’s not in.”
“Why not,” Bec asked, coming into the conversation.
“You just said she was fine,” Lucy added worriedly.
“She is, in general,” Bobby defended. “She was feeling sick this morning so I convinced her to stay home and rest.”
“But she’s okay,” Bec asked, worried about her friend.
“I’m sure she’ll be fine by tomorrow. Lucy, I’m having her calls transferred here.”
“That’s fine,” Lucy answered.
Bobby nodded and walked into his office and shut the door behind him. He looked out of his window and sighed. Lucy and Bec weren’t the only ones who missed Lindsay. He’d supported Lindsay in starting her own firm because he knew that it was what she needed to do, but he still missed her. He missed her coming into his office during the day just so they could talk for awhile, he missed looking out his window and seeing her sitting at her desk. Now she was at home and he was more worried about her than he’d let on to the others. He’d come home twice in the past week to find her sound asleep on the couch with Bobby Jr. playing nearby. Thankfully Bobby was a good kid and didn’t get into much trouble. He’d been perfectly content to play with his trucks until his daddy got home, but that behavior wasn’t normal for Lindsay. And she’d thrown up a couple of mornings, blaming it on lack of sleep even though she was usually in bed not long after their son.
Lindsay woke up around 11 and moaned. She still didn’t feel well and couldn’t figure out why. She’d felt bad for a couple of weeks but had managed to hide it from Bobby until recently. He had enough on his plate worrying about the firm, she didn’t want him worrying about her too. The firm was going through a rough time and everyone was on edge and taking it out on each other. Bobby had come home more than once, worried that their friendships might not last through much more.ndsandsay knew that the rift between him and Eugene hadn’t been getting any smaller and Bobby mourned the loss of his close friend.
The ringing phone brought Lindsay out of her thinking and she grabbed it. “Hello,” she asked, her voice stillgh wgh with sleep.
“Hey,” Bobby answered, concern obvious in his voice. “You don’t sound any better.”
Lindsay laughed slightly. “Thanks. I don’t feel much better. A little though.”
“That’s good. Did I wake you up?”
“No, I was awake.”
“Have you eaten anything,” Bobby asked. He knew that, when sick, Lindsay usually forgot to eat.
“Not yet. I was going to try something like toast and soup for lunch.”
“Okay. If you need anything, call me, okay?”
Lindsay smiled. “I will. I love you.”
“I love you too. I’ll call this afternoon, okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Bye, honey.”
“Bye.” Lindsay hung up the phone and stood up carefully. She walked into the kitchen and opened the cabinet door, looking for some chicken soup. Instead she saw the calendar and the little red dot onate ate four weeks before. She’d missed her last two periods and hadn’t noticed! Slowly the pieces began to fall into place, the nausea, the sleepiness. Lindsay shut the cupboard and hurried to the bedroom to get dressed. She put on a pair of jeans and a sweater before grabbing a coat and her purse and hurrying outside. She drove to the nearest pharmacy and bought two pregnancy tests, knowing it was best to test twice, and hurried home.
Once she took the first test, she sat in the bedroom and waited, wondering what she wanted the results to be. She’d wanted to have more children but with everything that had happened, her being in jail and the stress that they’d both been under, she wasn’t sure that this was the ideal time for her to be pregnant. But maybe this was what they needed, she thought hopefully. Maybe this would bring them closer, remind them of what they had. Lindsay looked at the clock and realized that five minutes had passed. She walked into the bathroom with one hand resting on her stomach and looked at the pregnancy test. It was undeniable, a + indicating that she was indeed pregnant. Lindsay smiled slowly. Though the timing might not be perfect, she was so excited about having another baby. She loved Bobby Jr. with all of her heart and she wanted him to have brothers and sisters to play with. Knowing better than to pin her hopes on one test, Lindsay took the other and was ecstatic when it too came back positive. She called her OB/GYN and made an appointment for the next day to get an official test done, then began planning how she’d tell Bobby about their new addition.
Bobby arrived home at 5:30 with Bobby Jr feeling much better than he had that morning. When his afternoon call to Lindsay had found her awake and sounding much better and more like herself his worry had abated somewhat. Bobby Jr. raced straight into the kitchen and threw his arms around his mother’s legs. Laughing, Lindsay picked the little boy up and held him close. Bobby found them talking, mostly in baby babble as Lindsay stirred dinner with one hand. He came up behind Lindsay, slid his arms around her waist with a smile and kissed her neck.
“Hi, beautiful.”
Lindsay turned and beamed. She set Bobby Jr. on the ground before twining her arms around Bobby neck and rising on her toes to kiss him. “Hi, handsome,” she whisd bad back as she pulled away slightly.
Bobby smiled gently down at her and stroked a finger over her cheek. “You’re making spaghetti? You must be feeling better.”
Lindsay nodded, unwilling to tell him just yet just what the cause of her feeling better was. They finished making dinner together in what had become habit. Since Lindsay’s release, both Bobby and Lindsay had made a new commitment to their family. Neither brought work home unless it was absolutely necessary and they didn’t even like doing it then. Weekends were reserved for visits to Bobby’s father and family time, even if that just meant hanging around the house and playing with Bobby Jr. During the day, Lindsay had had the time to mull her pregnancy and its implications and she realized that personally, this was a great time for them. They were more committed to each than they had been in awhile and a baby would only bring them closer, as Bobby Jr. had. Professionally, Lindsay still wasn’t sure.
The Donnells ate dinner together, then Lindsay bathed their son while Bobby cleaned up the kitchen. After playing for a few minutes, it was time to put Bobby Jr. to bed. Bobby and Lindsay both sat on the couch, Lindsay holding Bobby Jr. while Bobby read with one arm tucked protectively around his family. They both kissed Bobby Jr. good night and turned on the night light before tiptoeing out of the room and heading to their own.
Lindsay drew a bath and slid in with Bobby joining her a few minutes later. She leaned against his chest while his fingers traced patterns over her stomach. With a smile, she took his hands and slid them downward so they rested over her lower stomach. When Bobby shifted behind her questioningly, Lindsay took a deep breath. “We’re having a baby,” she said, a smile blooming on her face as she twisted around to see Bobby’s reaction.
Bobby stared at his wife for several seconds, in shock, before the grin spread over is face. “Really?!” he asked excitedly and Lindsay nodded. “Come here you,” he said softly, his voice full of love and wonder. Lindsay leaned into him and met his lips with hers. When they pulled away, Bobby was still smiling in awe. “Are you sure? When did you find out? Is that why you’ve been sick?”
Lindsay laughed as she straddled her husband’s thighs and sat facing him as his hands rested on her hips to steady her. “Yes, this is why I’ve been sick, I found out this afternoon, and I’m 99% sure. I took two tests and I’ve missed two periods. I have a doctor’s appointment at 11:30 tomorrow to find out for sure.”
Bobby smiled, his thumbs stroking her stomach. “11:30, I should be able to be there. That is if you want me...”
“Of course I want you there!” Lindsay exclaimed.
Bobby shifted and stood, drawing Lindsay up with him angulfgulfing her in his arms. “We’re having a baby,” he murmured as he kissed her gently. Somehow, they managed to step out of the tub and walk into the bathroom without their lips breaking contact. They fell onto the bed, Bobby flipping so Lindsay landed on top of him. Bobby continued to kiss Lindsay, trailing down her neck to her shoulder and stopping at her elbow to suck gently until she screamed out his name in ecstacy. He smiled and moved back to her lips. Lindsay wrapped her arms around his neck, not willing to let his lips leave hers quickly. His kisses were addicting, something she’d learned all too well during their time as recreational. His lips met hers again and again, their tongues dancing in perfect unison.
Lindsay squirmed until Bobby was under her. Determined to give him what he’d given her time after time, she kissed his lips one last time. She savored their taste of chocolate ice cream and Bobby, her two favorite flavors mixed together. She moved on, feeling his sandpapery jaw beneath her lips, she nipped lightly, drawing a moan of pleasure from her man. As she continued down his body, her hands stroked lightly over his rock hard abdomen. Finally she couldn’t take it anymore, not seeing the whole of him and she drew back and took him in, the gorgeous dark hair that was mussed from her fingers running through it, the deep pools of blue that showed such love and longing, his strong, determined jaw and the delectable mouth that often drew her gaze. Her eyes moved down from his shoulders which carried so much to his chest, the dark curls beckoned her fingers and she brushed her hands over them, causing Bobby tremble beneath her. The defined pectoral muscles which served as her pillow as often as not contracted unwillingly as his arms shifted, his hands running teasingly up and down her thighs.
Unable to wait any longer, and knowing that Bobby likely couldn’t either, Lindsay raised herself up and lowered herself slowly onto him. Bobby flipped them again to he was leaning over Lindsay, supported on one arm. He pumped, slowly at first anen Len Lindsay caught his rhythm they moved faster in perfect sync, doing a dance they’d perfected long ago. When he felt unable to control himself any longer, Bobby shifted, bringing one hand to her breast and stroking until she shuddered and bucked beneath him. He let himself go then and the climax ripped through them together. Bobby felt his arms begin to shake and he slid out of her then lowered himself to the side, resting his head on Lindsay’s chest, he tried to recover.
The next thing Lindsay was conscious of was Bobby’s head on her chest as her fingers ran lazily through the silky strands of his hair. Bobby’s hand was covering her womb and his thumb was stroking gently and he smiled up at her. “I can’t wait,” he whispered softly.
“Neither can I,” she said, then paused. “Bobby, are you sure we’re ready for this? I mean, personally I think we are, but professionally...I have my own practice now, I can’t shut down the office because I have a doctor’s appointment. And what about maternity leave?”
Seeing that she was getting worked up about something that he might have a solution to, Bobby reached up and placed his fingers against her lips. Lindsay kissed his fingers, a sign for him to continue. Bobby smiled. “I was thinking today how much I miss having you in the office. It’s not the same without you there.” Lindsay sighed, about to restate her need to do civil work, when Bobby shook his head and kept talking. “So I was thinking, how do I get my beautiful, sexy, brilliant wife back working with me again. And it came to me. We should combine our practices.”
“Bobby...” Lindsay objected.
“Wait, here me out. You would be head of our civil division. That way, you wouldn’t have to do criminal and could still do your own work, but it would allow you more freedom. Everyone misses you. Lucy asked me about you today. You could keep your own office, but still be part of what you helped build.”
Lindsay sighed. “I don’t know...”
“Think about it,” Bobby asked hopefully and Lindsay nodded. He grinned and slid up to kiss her again. “I love you.”
Lindsay grinned. “I love you too.” She rolled onto her side and smiled when Bobby spooned behind her, his hand protectively covering their child and drifted off to sleep, smiling. Bobby kissed the back of her neck before he too journeyed to dreamland.
