Author’s Notes: - A 200 word drabble. We always assume with Dutch’s back-story that it was evil dad, but maybe we’re wrong?
Aberrant Behaviour
Suddenly the shouting stopped. The silence that came crashing in around him more jarring on his nerves then the sounds of fighting that had preceded it. The silence grew and joined the shroud of darkness that enveloped him, pressing in on him, suffocating him. The loud bang of the front door slamming made him jump his heart clenching in his chest, the noise of it echoing through every atom of his body.
Who’d left? He bit his lip, and squeezed his eyes shut afraid of the answer as he heard footsteps climbing the stairs.
He strained every sense trying to discern who was approaching. Did the footsteps herald security and love, or fear and shame?
The waiting, the uncertainty, the hardest to deal with. As the seconds ticked by he found himself wishing the anticipation were over, his nerves too raw, too ripped open and bleeding.
The smell of whiskey making him urge as hands reached out for him, defiling all they touched. Sharp nails scraping against his skin leaving red trails and gooseflesh in their wake. A voice whispered out of the dark,
"Wake up Holland."
He heard his own voice break as he pleaded,
"No…please mom don’t…"
