Logan looked up; the meeting was a boring one, as would be the entire day. Opening a mall in North Hollywood then meetings with the press, purely a society day, nothing more. His chief of staff was droning on about something or other, something he assumed someone lower could handle.
“Mr President.” He looked around, his youngest assistant, Laura, was standing at the door. Her long brown hair falling in curls around her shoulders over her slate grey trouser suit. She smiled curtly to the others in the room and held the door open addressing the president. “I’m sorry to interrupt, but you have the English Prime Minister on line two.”
“Thank you Laura.” He replied. “Excuse me gentlemen.” He stood, moving out of the office, Laura showed him to the nearest phone.
“Mr Prime Minister.” He spoke clearly.
“Mr President, thank you for taking my call.” The voice replied.
“Perfectly fine.”
“Is this line secure.”
“Yes, is there a problem?”
“I’ll get to the point, we have information that a terrorist attack is going to happen in your country today.”
“You’re positive?”
“Absolutely. We caught one of the men involved when a red flag came up. We got a date out of him and mention of you, but nothing else.”
“What did he say about me?” The president asked warily.
“Only said that you’d wish you’d never messed with them.”
“Thank you. I’ll contact CTU.”
“Good luck.”
The click on the end of the phone showed the Prime Minister was gone. He replaced the phone and looked over to Laura, who was sitting at the desk at the end of the hall, working on her computer. Walking over, he leaned over the desk.
“Laura?” She looked up with a warm smile.
“Mr president?”
“Laura, I’d like you to come with me to the mall today. You have the most weapons training on my team and I’d like you there, just for safety.” He explained.
“Is there a problem sir?”
“No, not just yet, but I want to be sure.”
“Of course. Leaving at eleven am, right?”
“Yes, just be ready to go.”
10:11:24am
“Honey?” The woman called, stepping out of the shower and wrapping a large white towel around herself. Taking a smaller one, she wrapped it around her hair and over her head. “Honey?” She called again, opening the door and stepping into the bedroom.
“What?” a voice replied from downstairs.
“Can you pick up the kids from school today?” She rubbed down her legs, drying them to silk smooth.
“No, I’m busy.”
“I thought you had the day off.” She called, now working on her arms.
“Damn it, I said I’m busy.” He yelled, slamming down the paper he was reading. His dark hair was ruffled from sleep and his green eyes were still slightly blurred despite having been awake for almost an hour.

Jack opened his office door and stood on the balcony area above the stairs. He looked around, sighing as he knew that this would ruin his hopes of a quiet day. He’d planned on making an early leave if he could; make a stop on the way home. His latest phone call had eradicated that hope, and now he had to tell all his co-workers that any hopes they might have had about an early finish were dashed as well.
“Excuse me, can I have your attention please?” Jack called as everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up. People from the other side of the office walked over to stand nearer, hopefully to hear a little better.
“I just got a lead from the President that we have a terrorist threat in this country today. British Intelligence confirmed it. Unfortunately we have no idea at what time or where in the country this attack will take place. I need everyone on full alert, this might be a very long day.” He paused for a moment, thinking of a strategy.
“Right, I want all tech teams scouring all frequencies for any information we can find. The President has a very public day today, Chase, I want you to lead a team to follow his progress; we need to make sure he is safe. He’ll have someone there as well, coordinate with them.” Chase nodded from his desk, his eyes meeting with Kim as she threw him a sympathetic glance. He smiled lightly and turned back to watch Jack, who was now talking again to the tech teams.
“Everyone, we need to be completely on the ball today, I don’t want any outside phones being used and only calling out if completely necessary. Everyone get to work.”

Chase kissed Kim softly sliding his arms around her waist and pulling her close while she stroked his hair. The computers beeping behind them as Kim sighed.
“I’ve got to get back to work, Chase.” Kim whispered to him. He rolled his eyes and kissed her again, a soft but possessive kiss.
“I’m sure they’re over reacting. There won’t be a threat, and I’ll have to baby sit the president all day.”
“My poor boy.” Kim teased, stroking his cheek. He kissed her forehead and held her tightly, they both jumped as someone coughed from the entrance. Kim turned and looked, smiling guiltily as her father watched them.
“We don’t really have time for this.” He scowled, looking over to Chase. “I told you to sort out a team.”
“I just wanted to say goodbye to Kim.” Chase replied simply.
“Well, that’s what I came in here for.” Jack explained. “Kim, we need you to go with them for on-site tech. We need Chloe here, but we need someone with the president just in case.” Kim nodded, it wasn’t often that her dad let her go on assignment, but as Chase had said, this was mainly babysitting the president for the day. Still, it was nice to be out of the office for the day.
“That’s fine dad.” Kim replied, turning back to the computers. “What do you want me to take with us?”
“Take a tracking set and one of the inside laptops, you should have everything you need with those.” Jack answered. “Be ready to leave at eleven. The president will be arriving at the Hollywood mall at eleven thirty.” He nodded and headed for the door before turning back to Chase.
“Thank you for taking on this field ops assignment Chase, I appreciate it, you’re still the best we’ve got.” Chase laughed and nodded.
“It’s alright Jack, it’s only one day.” Jack nodded, and left them alone.

Laura placed the files back in her briefcase before pulling out her gun and checking that it had full ammunition. She sighed, of course it did, she hadn’t used it since she was given it a year ago. She scratched behind her ear, before rubbing her eyes and placing the gun back in her bag. Standing up she walked over to Aaron and tapped his arm.
“Miss Henley, how can I help?”
“Hi Aaron, I’m going as security for the president today, I’ve got my issue but I was wondering if you had a holster I can use?” He smiled and nodded. “Come with me, I’ve got some spare.”
Walking around the corner, they approached the stock room and unlocked it with his key card. Opening the door, Laura laughed as she saw how much extra stuff they had in the room. Files, packages, holsters, just what she needed. He grabbed one for her and handed it over.
“Check that one, see if it fits alright.” She placed the belt around her hips and fastened it, pulling the belt tight around her hips.
“Yeah, that’s great. Thank you Aaron.”
“If you don’t mind me asking, do you know why you’re going? I’m the head of security.”
“Aaron, I assume it’s because they don’t want anyone knowing there could be a problem. If I go, they’ll assume I’m just an assistant.”
“I can understand that.” Aaron smiled, moving towards the door.
“Plus Aaron, it’ll give you a chance to protect everyone here.” She smiled broadly. “We all know you’re good at that.”

Chloe knocked quietly on Jack’s office door. He looked up, and groaning slightly to himself, he ushered her in. He didn’t like dealing with Chloe on the best of days, when she wasn’t stressed, but when she was, she was even worse, he could imagine today being one of those days.
“Jack?”
“Yes, Chloe, what is it?” He replied simply, looking back to his computer. He was already bored with the day and it had been less than three hours since he came on shift.
“Well, I found a phone call that was red flagged a few weeks ago, I suppose no one really took any notice of it, but it could be useful. It mentions today.” She explained.
“OK Chloe, patch it through to my computer.”
“Yes Jack.” She replied, opening the door. Before pausing. “It’s good having you back full time sir.”
“Thank you Chloe, but now isn’t the time.”
“Sorry.”
“It’s alright, just patch through that phone call and see if you can find out where it came from.”
Chloe nodded and left the office, walking back to her computer where she tapped away for a few moments before speed dialling Jack’s connection.
“Bauer.”
“Just me, Jack.” Chloe answered. “The call has been routed through. It’s on server six beta, audio file seven three alpha eight nine.”
“Thank you Chloe.” He took her off speakerphone and ended the call, bringing up the server and finding the file she had named and opened it. He turned on the internal speaker and leaned back in his chair, watching the file open and check itself for any indiscretions before playing. Suddenly, the phone call came up, clear and easy to listen to.
“Hello?” A first voice asked.
“Aves?” The second replied, a much deeper and gruffer voice than the first.
“Yes.”
“I’m calling to hire your services.”
“Who am I speaking to?”
“You do not need to know this just yet. I need someone who can handle the grunt work of an operation. We have our target and the time. It will happen three weeks from tomorrow.”
“Not a lot of time to plan.”
“This needs to be short planning. We could be discovered if we take a long time.”
“What is the plan.”
“Not over the phone. I will meet you, the Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, tomorrow at three pm. Room eight three four.”
“Fine. I will bring a bodyguard.”
“I wouldn’t expect you not to. I will have one also.”
“Fine. I will look forward to hearing your proposal.”
The audio file clicked off after the man named Aves said that, and Jack rocked his chair slightly, puzzled. Why would that have been red flagged? He shook his head, unless someone had wanted them to find it, it wouldn’t have been flagged due to the conversation. He shrugged and got out of his chair, walking to the door and opening it.
“Chloe, I definitely want the location of both ends of that phone call.”
“I’m already on it. It was a local call, both ends are in Los Angeles.”
“Seeing as the meeting took place in Los Angeles as well, I am assuming our attack today will be here if that’s what they’re talking about. I’m going to go down to the Plaza, see if I can get to their records. Brief Chase on this before he goes. He’ll be leaving in a minute.”
10:51:00am
“Chase?” Chase looked up from his desk.
“There’s something you should know before you go.” Chloe replied, bringing up the file she had. Chase stood and walked to Chloe’s desk, looking down on it.
“What is it?”
“We had a red flagged phone call in Los Angeles a few weeks ago which stated today as an attack date. We think it could be our hit. A man named Aves was called to do the grunt work, he may be who you’re looking for.”
“Thanks Chloe.”
“It’s alright, Chase.” She replied, going back to her work before looking up. “Are you sure you’re up to this, Chase?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you haven’t been on field ops for nearly five years.” She explained.
“Chloe, I’ll be fine.” He replied, slightly annoyed that she was patronising him. She shook her head, turning back to her work.
“Was just trying to help.”
10:55:32am
President Logan packed away his files and handed them to Kelly, his personal secretary.
“Please take those down to finances, Kelly. I’d like a review by the time I get back.”
“Of course, Mr. President.” She agreed, tucking the files into her arm. “Is there anything else I can get for you?”
“No, that should be fine, thank you, Kelly. I’ll see you when I get back.” She nodded and walked from the room, a hand hitting the door just before it closed. Logan looked up, nodding to Peter, his chief of staff.
“Peter, thank you for coming in. I needed to tell you, I had a phone call from the English Prime Minister stating a threat on today that he got from MI6.”
“How long ago, Mr. President?”
“Fifty minutes.”
“If you don’t mind, Mr President, I would have liked to have known sooner. We could need to rearrange today.”
“I have had CTU contacted, they will have a team at the mall, but they’ll keep as low key as possible.” The president replied.
“Ok. But I wish you would have told me as soon as the threat was known.”
“I’m sorry, Peter. But I was waiting for the threat to be confirmed.”
“Has it been?” Peter asked.
“No not yet, but I need to leave in a moment, you need to know before I leave.”
“Thank you Mr President. Your car is ready.”
