Kuragari: So this is a little idea that popped in my head while I was bored at work. It intrigued me so I decided to run with it.
I can’t remember a time before they came. It was nearly nine years before my birth that the Angels appeared. At least, that’s what the media dubbed them, ‘Angels from another world’. What ‘other world’ no one seemed able to say, they just showed up in their floating palaces of gold and white marble. No one knew if they came from space, another dimension… heaven. They came offering aide in the form of medicines, bizarre technologies that would solve hunger and water shortages world-wide, even new forms of transportation that would cease to poison our world with their use and they promised much more would be coming. They were dubbed Angels because every single one had a pair of feathered wings, most white but some ranging from gold and silver to grays and black. Some were even sporting purples or blues. Every religious group in existence was claiming they were ‘their angels’ or a sign of their religion being correct, prompting endless political and religious debates on who was technically given rights to deal with and benefit from the Angels directly. The Angels, though, seemed willing to share with all humans they could. They called themselves the Seraphim Empire that had had to flee their own world due to some kind of war. Their leaders, two brothers named Michael and Lucifer, never did elaborate on what kind of war or with whom. Even so, we were only too eager to shelter them here, let them stay for all the gifts they promised us in return. We never suspected our Angels were really planning something else entirely. I was three years old, baby brother wasn’t born yet, when the first attacks happened. Small towns at first, the Seraphim Empire passing it off as rebel factions that didn’t want to accept Earth as their new home. They even put up a front of helping human law enforcement track down the ‘rebels’ by lending them the aide of their finest commanders. But it was all part of the plan, the plan that we never saw coming. They slowly began to integrate humans into their cities, taking them in as acolytes to study their ways, converting them to their lifestyle, none of which returned but it was just assumed they were fine. We had become used to them; no, worse, we had become dependent on them. We were reliant on technology we didn’t fully understand, trusting of these Seraphim commanders and their legions that were slowly replacing our own law enforcement. By the time we realized what was coming, it was far too late. Their technology turned on us and stopped working, crippling every society around the globe. Major cities barely lasted the year. The ‘converted humans’ came back as demons, doing the bidding of the Seraph commanders and killing their own kind without mercy. The Angels used their now superior forces to rain fire on our governments, demanding loyalty and servitude or death. My mother died in an attack on our home town in Kansas. She was killed by one of the ‘demons’ with glowing yellow eyes as he stormed into our house and set it ablaze. My father barely got me and my infant brother, Sam, to safety; there was nothing he could do for her. Countries that had once thought themselves powerful now found themselves defenseless, all their weapons and fire power having little to no effect against the gleaming shielded cities. The War, if you could call it that, with the Legion didn’t even last two years. We were just no match. Eventually everyone surrendered. Humans were taken prisoner or converted. Many resistance movements appeared; but they were snuffed out almost as quickly as they formed. All except for one. A group of families who called themselves ‘The Hunters’ outlived the war. They had discovered things about the Angels, not enough to fight them, but enough to stay hidden and alive. They recruited any survivors they could, building camps in remote areas that were largely unknown to the Seraphim. My dad, my brother and I were such survivors. I was raised in the life of a hunter, so was Sammy. We’ve never known anything different. My father, John Winchester, is one of the best hunters alive today and someday I hope to be counted his equal. I really don’t hold much hope for Sammy, at least not as a hunter. Maybe a researcher. But we live as hunters, moving from camp to camp, picking up stragglers on the way and leaving them with camp leaders. We go about our days and nights, hunting down the evil that was unleashed by the Legion, searching for anything that could be used as a weapon against them, and most importantly, learning all we can about their kind. So that maybe one day, we can fight back, and reclaim the world previous generations lost. I just want to find and kill the yellow-eyed demon that ripped my mother from me. My name is Dean Winchester, and he will die by my hand. Kuragari: If anything is confusing please ask me and I’ll be happy to explain all I can. Just know that this is a complete AU so if anything has changed most likely it was intentional though I tried to keep is as cannon as possible while in this new world. ALSO! Please be advised I am an incredibly SLOW updater. I apologize for this but it always seems that no matter how often I try to update something always comes up… namely me being a perfectionist before I will post what I’ve written. Or a computer exploding and taking stories with it. I’m sorry but it’s just how I work. So if I don’t update for a while, I didn’t die or give up the story, likely I just got stuck or distracted by something shiny but updates WILL COME eventually! While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
