---------------- “This is just a game!” Alisha cried out desperately as the man pointed his gun at her. The man stared at her evenly. “This is no game. This is my life.” Meanwhile, a masked figure in black stepped up behind the armed man. The masked person lifted its arms and grabbed the man's head, twisting it to the side. There was a cracking sound and the man startled to crumple as his finger pulled the trigger. The gun went off as a second figure in black dropped in from above, in front of Alisha. The gunman fell to the ground, eyes staring blankly, head twisted to an impossible angle, unmistakeably dead. The shot went wide, grazing the shoulder of the masked man in front of Alisha. She cried out “No... No!” as he stumbled back into her, putting her hands on his shoulders, trying to keep her balance. She barely noted the sound of footsteps as the masked person who had killed the gunman made an escape. The masked man and Alisha fell to the ground. “Are you alright?!” she asked, sounding frightened. She looked at the red staining her hands as she pulled her hands away from the masked man's shoulders. “You've been shot!” she exclaimed, horror in her voice. “I'm... I'm okay.” the masked man said, a hint of surprise in his voice. He pulled the mask from his face, revealing him to be a young man, probably early or mid-twenties, fair skinned, blue eyes and handsome features. “But you are bleeding, Simon...” Alisha insisted. Simon sat up, taking his weight off Alisha and turning to face her. “It's... just a graze...” he said with a small frown. “I'll be fine. This isn't how it was supposed to happen...” the last part said quietly, barely audible. Alisha leaned forward and kissed him “Thank god you are ok!” Simon kissed back, but distractedly. His eyes went to the dead man whose eyes stared unseeingly back at him. “You need to go to the others...” he shook his head, getting to his feet. He offered his hands to Alisha, helping her to her feet. “Don't tell the others about the other person... I want to find out what is going on.” he told her. She nodded at him, walking a few steps back the way she came before turning back uncertainly. “You are sure you are ok?” she questioned again. Simon nodded. “I've had worse, its just a scratch really.” Satisfied, Alisha turned and walked away. Simon jumped and awkwardly pulled himself back up the way he came down with one arm. He nearly lost his hold and started to slip when a black gloved hand reached down and grasped his injured arm. With that help he clambered back up. “Who are you?!” he said quietly, some anger and confusion evident in his voice. The other person in black pulled the mask from their face. Simon stared at the formerly masked person in disbelief. The person was revealed to be a young woman, roughly the same age as him. Her hair was dyed an unnatural bright red and cut short in a pixie cut, her eyes a startling blue. Her complexion was fair and lightly freckled. She wasn't what anyone would call a great beauty – she was pretty enough, in her own way but other than the eyes and hair fairly plain and unremarkable, the kind of face that would blend into a crowd. He stared at her a moment before finally speaking “Chase?!” he asked, though it was clear he needed no answer. “What the FUCK?!” he asked, eyes narrowing angrily. “It wasn't supposed to happen that way! Why did you ruin it? I told you to stay out of my life!” he said tersely. The girl laughed bitterly and spoke, “No thank you? I mean, I just saved your ass, no big deal.” she shook her head. “If it were up to me, I'd have stayed out of your life, but you know it isn't up to me. And if you were not about to get yourself killed, I wouldn't be forced to be here. It WAS supposed to happen this way. You are not supposed to die yet.” “But...” Simon protested. He was cut off, “It happened how it happened before, but thats not the future he wants. So its not how it should have happened. I'm working towards a better future than that one. Trust me when I say I stopped you from making a really fucking stupid mistake. Speaking of mistakes... its time for you to get out of the past. You shouldn't have gotten involved with her here. You were doing ok until that and the dying.” Chase sighed. “In any case, its time to go home. You were right about one thing, your time here is done.” Simon frowned more deeply “I can't leave her, not like this...” “Dying wouldn't have been leaving?” she shook her head. “You've already done enough damage here Simon, its time to go.” Simon turned and started to run. He only made it a few steps before she cracked him over the head with the handle of the gun. She rolled her eyes. “He saw that too, idiot.” He awoke tied to a chair in a windowless room. Chase was sitting in a chair opposite him, her lithe but muscular form clad in a black tank top and jeans. She was idly picking at her fingernails when he groaned slightly at the pain in his head. She looked up. “Finally up, sleepyhead?” she asked brightly. Simon opened his eyes fully and said nothing, just staring at her with a look of repugnance on his face. “You left a note... you didn't just disappear.” she said softly, looking down. “Don't look at me like that... you know I had no choice.” she said, a note of pleading in her voice. “You ALWAYS have a choice.” Simon spit out venomously. “Fine. But it was the right choice then. The world needs you still Simon.” she said, rubbing her face with one hand. “I did what you asked for as long as I could... I left you alone. I did my best. Even if you hate me for it, I've always tried to do the right thing. For the world... for you too.” she worried her lower lip with her teeth after she finished. Simon looked down and took a deep measured breath, waiting a long moment before speaking. “Right. Sure.” Chase bit her lip again. “I know you think we should have saved her. That you blame us for her death. It had to happen though, whether you believe so or not. He sent the medium, knowing what would happen. I knew. I could have told you, but I didn't. You hating me is worth what my actions accomplished.” Simon shook his head, taking another deep breath and then lifting his blue eyes to meet hers. “I don't hate you, but I can't forgive you.” he told her. She nodded back at him sadly, unshed tears glistening in her eyes. “I - I know...” Moments passed. “Are you going to untie me?” he asked her. She shook her head. “He's coming to speak with you...” she said standing up as the door swung open. A middle aged man, balding, slightly overweight and walking with a cane came through the door. Chase rushed to hold it open as he hobbled in. He smiled gently to her, taking her hand. “Thank you Chase, you may go.” he dismissed her. She gave a small bow and exited the room. “Simon... you very nearly made a big mistake...” she heard the older man say as the door closed behind her. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
