Disclaimer: I own nothing from either Glee or The Devil's Carnival. I make no money. |
I own nothing from this I watched The Devil's Carnival earlier and though this would be a great Rachel song and the idea just wouldn't leave so I wrote it. I hope you enjoy it It's my first ever Glee thing and I'm only posting it here.
In All My Dreams I Drown The storm raged out side and with a small grunt Rachel sprinted from her car to the school, they had practice every night at six until New York. She entered the school as lightening flashed out side. The school was dark and empty looking and more then just a little creepy in this storm. Rachel quickly made her way to the auditorium for practice looking forward to finding someone else, any one other then the lonely empty halls with nothing but lighting and the roll of thunder for company. As she approached the side doors to the stage area the noise of others didn’t greet her ears and she wondered if she was early. She was almost positive she wasn’t because of her Dad’s worrying if they should let her drive in the storm. She made her way to the lights but the switches didn’t work, no light greeted her with the flick of a switch the first, second, or tenth time she tried. She made her way over to the props and the stage lantern she knew was there, lighting it she approached center stage and thought she heard someone. Calling out with false confidence, “Hello, is anyone there?” There was no answer but with the lantern and being center stage she couldn’t resist. She began to sing and instantly a male voice joined hers. “The ship, it swayed, heave ho, heave ho, on the dark and stormy blue, and I held tight to the Captain's might as he pulled up his trews. 'You haven't slept,' heave ho, he said, 'In many suns and moons.' 'Oh, I will sleep when we reach shore, and pray we get there soon.' He said, 'Now hush love, here's your gown. There's the bed, lantern's down.'” She found herself setting down the lantern “But I don't want to go to sleep; in all my dreams, I drown.” The lightening crashed outside thunder rolling mere seconds after it. Rachel tried to place the male voice that blended so effortlessly with hers, it was not Finn’s that was for sure. As she began to sing the next line she was sure that she felt the person’s body heat behind her, “The Captain howled 'Heave ho, heave ho' And tied me up with sheets” She felt his hands on her wrist pulling her arms above her head and together as if being bound, his hands grazing along the outside of her arms and down her sides. His breath grazing her neck as he again joined her in the words to the song. “'A storm is brewing in the South, It's time to go to sleep' His berth, it rocks, heave ho, heave ho” Bringing her arms down in a slow easy motion to clasp and cover her heart, his hands on her hips rocking them together to the beat of the song not even a breath between them yet she didn’t turn to look at him, in the moment, the performance for no one but them the most important part. “The ocean gnashed and moaned Like Jona we'll be swallowed whole and spat back teeth and bones He said, 'Now hush love, here's your gown. There's the bed, lantern's down.' 'But I don't want to go to sleep;” Rachel’s voice alone holding the terror and heart ach of the song, “in all my dreams, I drown."” His body heat was gone from behind her yet she didn’t turn she reached out in front of her crying out, “'Captain! Captain! I will do your chores I will warm your cot at night And mop your cabin floors Scold me, hold me I'll be yours to keep The only thing I beg of you Don't make me go to sleep'” her movements to the song effortless and well timed her arms tightly wrapped around herself. He was still behind her singing the next lines slightly behind her to the right. Lightening flashing and thunder rolling again. “The sky it flashed, heave ho, heave ho, His pillow toed to the brink.” He made his way to her with slow steady steps in time to have one hand on her hip and the other run along the inside of her left thigh for the next line. “The curtains ran between my legs as” his voice added chills down her spine when it joined back in, “we began to sink. I closed my eyes, heave ho, heave ho, as the ship was rent and fell. Eddies in the water headed to the mouth of Hell 'Hush now, hush love, here's your gown. There's the bed, lantern's down.' 'I'm begging you please wake me up in all my dreams I....'” With the end of the song the spell seemed to break and Rachel spun but he wasn’t there, she stood alone center stage the only light that of the lantern at her feet. She picked it up shining it toward where she was certain she had heard him last but there was nothing. Rachel looked around slowly before shaking her head returning the lantern to the props space and making her way out the door finally noticing a sign that said practice was canceled because of the weather. Why hadn’t she seen that on the way in? She exited the building running back to her car but as she started it she looked back at the school and swore she saw someone, a male, in a window looking down at her. She knew she wasn’t crazy now if only she knew who he was his voice was amazing, but even as she thought it he faded out of sight, not turned and walked away but literally faded. Rachel’s eyes bulged a little, ok maybe she was crazy and with the final thought and no more looks to the school she sped off toward her house.
