Hello, this is my very first fanfiction so please be kind. I had just got done binging the amazing series that is 13 Reasons Why and I immediately came to find fanfiction on it as I normally do with any show I fall in love with. I should have known there wouldn’t be any based on how new it was but I already had an idea of just what I wanted to read. Then I figured I would just give righting my story a shot so after a few days of binge writing here it is, completed and ready for a reader’s consumption. I edited it myself so I apologize for any mistakes. A few notes, Jeff didn’t die in the car crash, Clay was still in the tapes but not a love interest for Hannah nor was she for him. Chapter 1
Clay hated being an omega, he just felt so helpless, destined to be at the mercy of some Alpha as soon as he went through his first heat. Not to mention his emotions were currently in turmoil after his closest companion and fellow omega Hannah Baker just committed suicide. Being an Alpha or Omega was rare, in all Alphas make up 5% of the population and Omegas were 10%, so for him to meet a fellow one in his grade was something. Yet she made the mistake of telling her first crush, a stupid Beta named Justin, about her Omega status. Then he told the whole school and nothing was the same for her since.
Omegas & Alphas are very sex oriented, Alphas have an extremely high sex drive and Omegas are the perfect thing to attract them. Yet, Betas are just as attracted to Omegas so most keep quiet about their Omega status so as not to be objected to early abuse. After listening to her tapes Clay realized that he was smart in keeping his status a secret and resolved even more to not let anyone know, because Alphas all ended up leading major roles in society like some sort of pre-ordained sign and without an Omega by their side they generally become destructive and die early deaths.
There were only a few Alphas at Clays school Liberty High and statistics showed that most Omegas found their destined Alpha around their first heat which occurred on your 18th birthday. He knew he was an Omega when he turned 14, that’s when the cramps started, they are worse for male Omegas because their body is changing to accommodate a future fetus. Female omegas start their periods, whereas Betas don’t go through anything, no periods/cramps/body changing at all, because they cannot have children. Alphas just have increased sexual drives and athleticism; Omegas also get an increase in intelligence.
Clay was kind of starting to freak out, he needed to find an Alpha, Omegas without one after their first heat were sent to breeding farms to ensure the continuation of the species. They were very luxurious places that some Omegas were very content to spend the rest of their lives in leisure, their every wish granted as long as they stayed at the ‘resort’ continually pregnant, pleasured by selected Alphas who had numerous Omegas for each of them. As soon as they had a child it was adopted to Beta couples on a list, the resorts were considered none healthy environments to raise children.
Yet, Clay knew he wouldn’t be happy with such an arrangement, it would feel like a prison to him. He didn’t like his options though, the Alphas in this school were Bryce (hell no), Justin, (again hell no), Monty, and Zach. Of course those were the ones he knew of, some Alphas, just like Omegas, didn’t want their real natures known until they were ready.
He sighed as the bell rang marking the end of the 1st period, too many heavy thoughts to have so early in the day. He went to his locker and noticed a few guys hovering around Alex and worried for him. His 18th birthday was coming up and he was obviously an Omega, he was already emitting pre heat hormones. Though he figured he might be fine, ever since he tried to kill himself Justin and him had become very close, the both of them needing each other in ways they didn’t see until it was almost too late. It made Clay happy to see Justin standing right next to Alex, a scowl on his face, keeping away an Alpha that tried to get to close.
He turned to his locker and liked to have jumped 10ft when a familiar voice said “What’s taking so long Clay?” He smiled, shut his locker and turned around, “Hey Jeff” he said trying to act cool, and utterly failing if he was being honest with himself. Oh how he secretly wished Jeff was an Alpha, he wouldn’t have so much worry and internal fears. “Come on space cadet, we are going to be late to class”, “Space Cadet?!”, “Yep, or Mr. super distracted, I know Hannah’s tapes got you messed up but you need to live in the here and now, it took you long enough to tell me about them so remember if there is anything else you just let me know ok?” “Yeah, thanks Jeff, let’s go.”
He started walking to the class they shared with Jeff falling in right behind him like he normally did. Jeff had been the first person he had opened up to after the tapes were made public by Hannah’s parents and he was so happy to have him, Tony, and Skye as his close friends. He wasn’t sure how he would have done it without them, now that enough time had passed he realized how cruel it was for Hannah to leave those tapes but she had been in a dark place and she took them all down with her. None of them would ever be the same again, and neither would the school. Jeff had been pissed when he got beat up by Bryce to get his confession, even after he found out why and what for Jeff told him how reckless he was and that next time anything like that happened in his life he needed to come to him.
Bryce hadn’t faced any repercussions even with the confession. His parents got great lawyers that just argued his Alpha status and how at such a young age it was hard for him to control his appetites so he got off scott free. He had tried to bully Clay but the first time he went to beat Clay up, Jeff was there stepping in making Bryce stand down which Alphas don’t normally do to Betas. Jeff demanded to know what was going on so Clay opened up to him and the strange thing was Bryce never bothered him after that, and then he graduated so he didn’t have to worry about him much anymore. Bryce became an Alpha at a resort he went to every week when he wasn’t busy with college, no one was surprised there. He still came around town because his college was only an hour away but Clay rarely, if ever, saw him.
Clay sat down in his seat next to Jeff, he actually had a lot of classes with Jeff this year, pretty much every class except for his advanced classes and Jeff’s athletics. He didn’t mind at all though, although at times Jeff’s presence was distracting, most of the time it was comforting, he was one of the few people he could just sit with in silence and not feel obligated to make conversation. Plus Jeff totally didn’t laugh when he went off on how awesome the new King Kong movie was or things like that. “So are you coming to my game tonight cadet?” “Um yeah sure…...what time?” “Seriously Clay? They are always at the same time” I wanted to face palm at that moment because he was right they were always at “7” He just smiled and said “Yes Clay 7, I’ll see you there”
