Chapter 13
Thanks to Tenchi for being the most amazing beta in the world and to Rogue for running the mailing list for my stories for me.
Before you delve into this chapter I should say this... what's said in this chapter is how I perceived the characters, and what I thought their personalities were like, in this arc of the series when I took it as a whole as to what was done. It's not my view of certain things or me pushing such a thing off on you. It's just me working with what was there during these shows, nothing more. Please take it as that and not some great philosophical debate on the subject as that was never my intent with this. After all, this is just a chunk of fan fiction that was giving me an opportunity to write threesome smut, not some great work of art that is touted as a debate of divisive issues.
Thinking of how he was dressed when he started to 'rest', the first thing Lucifer did was look down. He was pleased to see that he was in his normal white silken pajamas rather than standing there naked.
Looking at Lucifer, the 'Chuck' visage of his father gestured for him to take a seat, a small smile on his face. In his normal defiance of his father, Lucifer didn't bother, just standing there, glaring at him, arms folded over his chest. After several long minutes, he finally said, “What do you want, father?” Shifting around on the desk to get comfortable, 'Chuck' took a sip of the whiskey that was in the glass sitting there then looked at his most favored child. “Actually, I wanted to see if you and I could come to some kind of a deal. Well, of a sorts anyway.” “Why should I? I am in control of the earth now. It was I that defeated Michael. Why should I deal with anyone?” Lucifer spat, glaring. “Oh, I know you did. I also know that the only reason you did was a deal you made with Sam. Keep in mind who you are talking to, Lucifer. If you don't think I can send you right back where you came from, you're sadly mistaken,” 'Chuck' said, keeping his tone mild. Glaring at his father, Lucifer finally sat down then crossed his legs. Keeping a mild tone, he said, “And what 'deal' would you like to broker with me, father? And why should I even listen to you?” “Let's say it will be something that you might find intriguing,” 'Chuck' told him softly, looking at his wayward child. “Alright, what will I find interesting about it?” Lucifer asked, still glaring. “First, before I tell you what it is, let me ask this... keep in mind that I will know the truth no matter what you say or how you couch it; you find Sam the only human you've met 'worthwhile', don't you?” Looking down, Lucifer pondered how to say what he wanted. Indeed, his father would know the truth no matter what he said or how he went about saying it. After several moments, he said, slowly, “I find Sam an interesting being in many ways. Though I don't always agree with how he sees things, discussions with him do appear to be worthwhile. As he's my vessel, and a great deal like me, I would expect no less of him, however. He is the only one though. The rest, I've found, are broken and flawed.” Nodding, 'Chuck' said nothing but smiled. “Given your druthers, even if you eliminate the rest, wouldn't you consider keeping Sam around to talk to? Or... other things?” Shooting his father a glare over the cryptic 'other things' bit, Lucifer said, grinding his teeth, “Perhaps. He would be a companion that I would...” stopping, he tried to think of the right word then came up with, “like having around. At least he's more articulate and intelligent than most beings.” “You would miss what the both of you share if he were gone, wouldn't you?” “I believe I would,” Lucifer nodded. “My followers are just that; followers. They would do anything to stay in my favor. Sam has nothing to gain by sucking up to me, as humans put it.” Narrowing his eyes, he looked at 'Chuck' then hissed, “What are you getting at?” Smiling, 'Chuck' looked at him then said, “What I'm proposing is this, Lucifer... for one year, you turn over what you're doing to your followers and stay out of it. In doing that, you are to spend time with Sam and the others. I'll give you a real body, the one you appear in right now. You'll keep your powers but will have nothing to do with the war. If you do that, I'll keep Michael right where he is. The two factions that are on earth will battle it out the best way they can without their leaders. After a year, you and I'll meet again to discuss things. You can do as you please, but you will stay out of the war.” “This is one of your object lessons, isn't it?” Lucifer ground out, foot starting to tap in agitation. Just smiling, 'Chuck' said nothing, waiting for an answer. Huffing, Lucifer just glared then asked, “And if I don't accept?” “I will have Michael come to earth and it will continue on. Nor, this time, will I allow anything else to change the course of how it's supposed to go.” This was something that Lucifer knew he should have expected. Though it was a choice, the one his father didn't want him to take was going to end up trying to force him to take the one he did. Softening his tone, 'Chuck' said, “Lucifer, is it so bad to give up a quest to annihilate an entire species I created for a year a bad option? It's one year. In that time, you will get to experience so much that you had to miss while you were in your cage.” “I don't like you forcing me to do this!” Lucifer snapped. “I'm not forcing you to do anything. It's entirely your choice, my son.” Thinking it over, he then said, trying to buy himself some time to ponder it more before his father demanded an answer, “Either way, in the end, Sam will be mine. You will condemn him to Hell for all he's done.” “Sam has made many mistakes over his life, this is true. Many of which would, normally, condemn him to your place. However, he's done what he has for the right reasons. For that, especially now, I can easily forgive him. He sided with you because of the love he had for his brother and friends. His relationship with Dean is because of a deep, abiding love for his brother. It would be condemned by most but it was pushed to that point by forces beyond both brothers' control. Nor do I see it as worse than others that profess to do what they are in my name.” Stopping, he turned the computer monitor around. On it was a picture of Sam and Dean curled up together, sleeping. “I see two beings that love each other in this. That is far more acceptable that this...” The scene on the monitor then changed to a shot of the beings that protested funerals in his name, saying things like 'God hates fags', 'fags rot in hell', and other such hate. It then shifted to scenes of people killing in his name or causing violence. Turning back to Lucifer, he said, “Those last, though they do it in my name and supposedly because they love me, do it for hate, no other reason. They belong in Hell, not someone who is doing what they do for love.” Stopping, he looked at his wayward child then added, softly, “How could I condemn a being to hell if they accepted the most evil of beings for what they are; you. Sam accepts you for who and what you are, Lucifer. He may not like what you do and would probably prefer not to be in the position he is, but he accepts you. No other being could do that. Only my angels could.” Looking down at the floor, Lucifer thought it over. However, before he agreed to anything, he had to ask, “I assume that you will have someone keeping an eye on me?” Smiling, 'Chuck' nodded, “Yes. Of course I will. Not that I won't know if you break the agreement but I thought someone from my side being there would help to stave off such things and keep the peace.” “Who will it be? I won't even consider anything without knowing who I would be dealing with.” “I believe it's one all parties involved can accept; Castiel.”Coming to in the room where he had been before the visit, Lucifer, at first, sneered at what he felt he had been forced into. The next thing he did was check to ensure that he had the body he was promised. Quickly, he was able to determine that he did. After that, he wanted to see if he had the connection to Sam he had before. That is where things had changed. The tether that had been there was gone. For that, he was grateful. It meant that he didn't have the leash he had before. There was still some kind of connection to Sam, mentally, but it wasn't nearly as powerful as it had been before. He could feel some things as he had before but it wasn't nearly what it had been. He doubted that he could read his thoughts anymore. Though he would miss that part, as it made a great many things much easier on him, he could work with it.
Lying there, he ran his fingers through Sam's hair, unable to stop the small smile that came. This body was definitely better than having a vessel. The feelings that it produced were far more intense and 'real' than the other way. He could only imagine how that was going to translate into some pleasurable activities. However, he shoved that aside. Right now, he had much to lay out and put into motion before the deadline came. For now, that was going to have to take precedence over pursuits that he would have a year to indulge in. Easing out of bed, making sure not to disturb Sam or Dean, he found his clothes then pulled them on. Quietly, he then left the room. Striding through the mansion, he was calling for all his most powerful generals for the biggest meeting he had ever held. There was a lot of work to do, with little time to accomplish it. He wasn't sure he could lay out a years worth of planning in just the short period he had to do so, but he was going to do his best.Coming to gradually, Dean was feeling worn out though he had slept quiet well and for a long time. On top of that, his head seemed to ache. Lying there, feeling Sammy pressed to him, he looked around. As was now normal Chien was pressed to his side, tail wagging happily, wanting attention. Grinning slightly, he reached down and scratched between the dog's ears. The thought that he actually liked the puppy, despite what it was, still startled him, but he did. And the dog seemed to like him as well, showing no signs of aggression in his direction at all. In fact, he seemed to like him more than he did Sam, demanding attention from him in a way he didn't his brother.
Lying there, Dean thought over that last dream he had. Honestly? He was wondering if it wasn't real. Hell, it felt real! God talking to him? Telling him Lucifer was giving up his quest for world domination for a year? Seemed too strange to him for something his brain would come up with. He assumed that, if it was real, that he would know it soon. Or it would confirm that he was going further off the deep end then than he already was. After scrubbing a hand over his face, he decided he needed to answer the call of nature. After that, he would see about getting some breakfast and wait for Sammy to wake up. Easing out from under his brother's ginormous arm, taking care not to wake him, he headed for the bathroom. After he was finished, he headed to the other room. The help around the place was good about making sure there was food when he woke. He was hoping that trend held true today as well. Right now, he wasn't up to facing what was in the house yet. Stepping out, he halted quickly, eyes growing wide when he saw Cas sitting there. Alright, that was beyond strange! Nor did he want to deal with it. He didn't want to start answering questions about why he was staying the night here or being in Lucifer's bedroom. However, he doubted the angel was going to go away either. So, rather than look guilty, he put on his normal mask and made a beeline for the food that was already sitting there. As always, just as he was sitting down and getting comfortable, Chien came in, muscled his way into the seat beside him then sat there, panting. Grinning, Dean gave the dog a piece of bacon then began to dig into the grub. Between mouthfuls, he asked, “What's up, Cas? And does Lucifer know you're here?” Looking at Chien, Cas said, voice its' normal deadpan, “He likes you.” Grinning, Dean replied, “I would never have guessed that with how he acts!” Glancing Dean's direction, brow furrowed, it took the angel a few moments to get that it was sarcasm. Nodding he said, “Ah, you did know. I understand now.” Shaking his head, still grinning, adoring how much fun it was to talk to Cas. “I do believe Lucifer knows I'm here and the purpose of it. He's busy right now and probably will be all day so I figured I better talk to you and Sam.” Stopping, Cas glanced towards the bedroom then asked, “Sam is still asleep?” “Yeah, he's out. The energy this is taking from him is making him tired,” Dean answered, not able to look at the angel. “I'll let you fill him in then. No sense in waking him if you can explain it to him.” “Explain what? You haven't told me what it is yet,” Dean told him pointedly after he swallowed a mouth full of eggs. “God has made a deal with Lucifer,” Cas told him bluntly, looking at the older brother. Stopping eating, Dean sat up straighter, brow furrowed. “That wasn't a dream then,” he muttered, more to himself than Cas. The dream conversation had been about such a deal, explaining it to him. Looking back at the angel, he said, “It's real then? Lucifer is out for a year and has his own body?” “That was the deal, yes. I was just supposed to make sure you knew it was real,” Cas said with a nod. Shaking his head, not sure what to think, Dean then asked, “So, we're actually staying with Lord Big, Bad and Super Evil for the duration? That ought to go over well since he really doesn't like me!” “Yes, all of us are staying with him. I assume, from what I heard, Jesse and his family will be moving elsewhere. Bobby, I believe, can go as long as he agrees to not interfere with Lucifer but you, I and Sam will be staying with him.” Leaning back, Dean looked at Cas, then asked, “Why?” In the dream or vision or whatever it was, that part wasn't explained to him. A lot of other things were and, though he had asked why, it wasn't answered. Looking down at the floor, Cas shook his head then sighed before replying, “I don't know for sure. I just know it's some kind of plan of God's.” Stopping, he glanced at the bedroom door then said, quietly, “I assume it has something to do with Sam as Lucifer has his own body now. I don't know what though. All I know is I'm supposed to stay with you to keep an eye on things.” Snorting at that, Dean couldn't help but grin, “A guardian angel for an arch-angel? One to keep the small devil on his shoulder in check?” “Something like that, yes. It's also to keep you two from doing harm to one another,” Cas nodded, not getting the reference that seemed to cause Dean so much mirth. “Man, on the scale of shit ain't right, this has to top everything,” Dean snorted, shaking his head. “And Lucifer agreed to this? All of it? How's it going to work? I mean, is he still tethered to Sam or is it something else?” “No, Lucifer has his own body. I think, from what was said, that there is some kind of connection there still but not like what was there before. Sam has his own body to himself,” Cas confirmed. That was good news! Sighing, he didn't like the part that they would be stuck with Lucifer but he had been told that nothing bad would come of it, that Lucifer wouldn't be doing what he had been and would behave. He assumed that if Cas was answering directly to the big guy himself, that would hold true. Thinking about that, he grinned, “Does this mean you have your juice back.” “I do, yes,” Cas confirmed. “Lucifer knows this. He also knows that I'm supposed to stay with you. I doubt he likes it but it's part of whatever deal he made.” Nodding, Dean looked at his food then muttered, “I don't like not having a choice in this shit. Me and Lucifer together for a year? That's not going to end well.” “Dean, I believe you did have a choice and made it,” Cas told him, tone soft yet firm. “You chose what was best for Sam.” Toying with his food, Dean thought over how the conversation had gone. Somewhere in it he thought he had been given a choice. It had been one he didn't want to take though; go on without Sam and let him stay with Lucifer or stick it out. Of course, he had chosen the latter. With a sigh, he nodded. “Yeah, I think you're right. Wasn't one I liked though.” “I think this was a choice that no one liked but it's what's for the best. God has a plan of some kind, though I don't know what it is. We need to trust him is all. It was big, whatever he did, if he could get Lucifer to step back.” Dean wanted to say something about that but didn't. Cas was right. A years break from what was going on was big. He didn't think it would ever have happened. It had been his thought that they were just in a waiting cycle to die like the rest on the plant. Taking another bite of food, he fought the urge to look back at the bedroom. Though he hadn't been told much on the topic, he was sure, like Cas had said, it had something to do with his brother, something big. He didn't have a clue what it might be though. Sitting there waiting for more questions from Dean, Cas couldn't help but glance at the door to the bedroom, curious. What had Sam done that would precipitate this? He knew it had something to do with the younger brother but wasn't told what. All he knew was that he was not to say anything about what was going on between the two brothers and Lucifer. It was supposed to aid in whatever was going on. That was strange but if God was stepping in finally, it meant he had a plan. When their father had a plan, it always worked. That's what he was going to focus on, not questioning what it was or why it might be. He assumed that would reveal itself over the next year. Looking back at his food, Dean poked it with a fork. There was so much he wanted to know but didn't think there were any answers for it. Instead of dwelling there, he switched tracks, “So, does this mean we're prisoners here in the mansion for the year?” “No,” Cas said with a shake of his head. “We can come and go as we like. We just have to stick together.”
