Chapter Two
“Alright, let me see it
again.” Nadine said in a bored tone.
“Yes ma’am.” Sergeant Davis replied, sounding irritated.
The iris closed over the
de-activated Stargate before sliding open once again.
“It isn’t fast enough.”
She decided to herself.
She was brought out of her
revere by an SF. “Excuse me ma’am, but
you are late for the de-briefing with General Hammond.”
She glanced at her
watch. “Crap.” She murmured. “We are not finished here.” She told Davis before standing and heading to the de-briefing room.
“Sorry Sir.” She said as
she entered the well lit room and sat near the rest of SG-1.
“Quite
alright.” Hammond assured her.
“I’ll never
know? No, Colonel, you’re the one
who will never know.”
“Alright, that’s IT!” General Hammond intervened. “I want to know what the hell is going on
here, right now.”
“She disobeyed direct
orders.” Jack told him.
“I did no such thing.”
“You kicked the Unas in the head after I told you to leave it
ALONE!”
“I was defending myself.”
“Against
WHAT exactly?”
Hammond intervened once more. “STOP! That’s enough from the both of you. You are to follow the orders of the Colonel,
unless it is a situation in which we discussed that you would be put in charge
of. And Jack, read the files I gave you
before spouting your mouth off about your past.
De-briefing is over, I’ve got a headache.”
The rest of SG-1 had
simply sat in stunned silence the entire time.

Nadine sat at a table in
the commissary eating her food alone and in peace when a tray was placed on the
other side from herself. Jack sat down across from her.
“I’m not a big
reader. So, I never read your files.” He
stated.
She simply stared at him.
“And, I still haven’t.”
She still said nothing.
“So maybe you could just
tell me what it says.”
“What?!” Was the
general reaction from SG-1 sitting at the conference table with General Hammond
listening to Nadine.
“Having everyone getting
comfortable and friendly with team members is a risk.”
“Like hell it is.” Argued Jack.
“I would think it’s a
benefit.” Daniel interjected.
“You better have a damn
good argument to support your theory, Ms. Larkey.” Hammond said.
“I do Sir, and it isn’t a
theory.” She stood and began walking
slowly around the large table. “Jack, if
a member of your team was captured, would you attempt to rescue them?”
“Damn right I would.”
“Daniel, let’s say O’Neill,
Carter, and Teal’c were captured after you all
received a vital piece of information to the survival of our planet. You were not seen and have direct access to
the gate to get home. Woyou, you, honestly,
attempt to rescue your team-mates? Yes,
you have the means and probably could, but you’d be risking the fate of our
planet if you did. They’ll die if you
don’t. What do you do?”
“I try to rescue them.”
“Exactly. And why?”
“Because they’re my
friends and I won’t leem dem die.”
“Because
they’re your friends. If you didn’t know them, would you be more
inclined to just return home?”
