Chapter 6
Nadine’s vision slowly focused.
She stared at the gold walls with pictured imprinted on them for some
time. She didn’t know where she was, but
she knew this isn’t where she last was.
She thought for some time before remembering the volcano planet. But, did did she get here.
“Tok’ra.”
Jack’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
She looked towards the source of the sound and found Jack sitting on some
sort of crate.
“What?” Her voice was hoarse and
cracked.
“Tok’ra picked us up. You’re on a Goa’Uld
cargo ship.”
Nadine sat up gradually, waves of dizziness crashing over her.
“And everybody else?” She asked Jack.
“Carter and Teal’c are up front with Jacob,
Daniel’s still out of it.”
Nadine nodded, but it turned out to be a bad idea. She decided to lay
back down.
Jack came over to her side. He
looked like he had a lot to say, or more likely, ask, but didn’t.
There was nothing but quiet between them for some time.
“I should shoot you.” Jack broke
the silence.
“You almost did, remember?”
“I wasn’t aiming for you, just near you.”
“Yeah, well, I don’t know if I’d trust your aim that much.” She said with a laugh.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What do you think I mean?”
“I am not old.”
“Hey, you said it, not me.”
“That was a stupid thing you did out there.” Jack said, turning the conversation more
serious.
“Was the only thing I could come up with at the time.”
“Well, I have an idea: Save yourself.”
“Not an option.”
“And why not?”
“It’s not my job to save myself.”
“Excuse me?”
“My orders are to make sure SG-1 makes it back alive no matter what.”
‘You are a member of SG-1.”
“No I’m not.”
The cargo room door sliding open interrupted their argument.
“We’re nearly to the Tok’ra’s planet with a
gate, sir. Dad says it’s their base of
operations.” Carter informed them. “Daniel awake yet?”
“Yes.” Groaned Daniel from his corner.
"Well, we'll be landing soon.
The Tok'ra have
already informed the SGC that we're okay.
Apparently, Hammond tried to establish a
connection with the planet multiple times and then contacted the Tok'ra to see if they could swing by the planet and see if
we were alright."
Nadine decided to try sitting up again, which went much better this
time then the last.
"It may be best if you remain lying down. Neither myself nor Selmak had the energy to completely heal all four of
you. I'm afraid both yourself and Dr.
Jackson are still in need of care."
"I'll be alright."
Nadine told the new man standing next to Sam, while eyeing him
suspiciously.
"My appologies. I am Lantash and my
host is Martouf."
"That's nice." Nadine said sarcastically before lapsing into
a coughing fit.
"You and Daniel both have really bad pnemonia
right now, among other things."
Carter told her.
"Even better." Nadine once again sarcastically said before
lying back down on the hard ground with a thump. "I feel like I've been run
over." She groaned.
"We'll have you both feeling good as new soon enough." Jacob said, entering the cargo hold. "We've landed." He told the others.
"Alright..." Jack
said, kneeling next to Nadine, preparing to pick her up.
"Don't even think about it."
She warned, sounding none too threatening.
"Considered it, thought about it, doing
it." Jack told her, right before
raising her up in his arms. "Done it."
"I'm going to shoot you later." She warned.
"You almost did earlier, and I won't believe for a minute that you
weren't aiming for me."
"You're just lucky I was so out of it or you'd be dead."
Jacob and Martouf helped Daniel to his feet
and assisted him to the ring platform.
"Put me down." Nadine
insisted for the fifth time.
"For cryin' out loud, half-dead and
you're still annoying and if possible, even more so."
