Chapter Four: Game On “So tell me McGee, what is it that you have been doing with yourself?” Ziva asked as she passed him a drink. “I suppose I have a few questions to answer. But I will answer them if you don’t tell anyone. I want to tell them in my own time,” McGee explained as he took his drink and had a sip. “Very well. How long have you been studying Kung Fu?” Ziva asked. “Since I was a part of the NCIS computer team. So about six or seven years.” “And why don’t you display your training in our training sessions?” Ziva asked. “Because I wanted to be at the same level or under Kate and Tony, and then you. If I proved I knew more than I did, then I would have been pushed into other things, and I wouldn’t have remained the agent I am.” McGee took another sip of his drink as he awaited Ziva’s next question. “What else are you hiding? I know it is something you confessed to Razu, and I hope it is something you can confess to me,” Ziva questioned, reading McGee’s body language. “Well, in truth, it is part of who I am and my reason for not showing it is because of the amount of flack I would cop from Tony and Abbey.” “You worry about what they think?” Ziva asked. “You haven’t noticed that every little thing I hand them to mock me comes out a lot worse than it should be?” Ziva took a few moments to consider this. It was true that just because McGee did something not so masculine or showed some aspect of what was assumed to be his true nature, “I suppose so. I know that I have mocked you from time to time, but not as badly as they do. For which I am sorry that it has made you feel that you couldn’t trust me enough with what you have to tell.” “No Ziva, you are about the only one I can tell and know that you would understand. Well, here goes. I am actually bisexual.” McGee answered. Ziva stopped to think about this, then smiled and laughed lightly. “No you’re not.” she replied. “Am so.” “Tony was asking you about it a while ago and you said you weren’t.” Ziva explained, recalling the same conversation Tim was. “Actually, Tony asked me if I was gay, and then Bi-curious. I am neither of those, I am bisexual. I didn’t lie because those two things aren’t who I am. I didn’t lie because I didn’t expand on the subject and neither did Tony.” McGee sipped his drink again as he predicted where Ziva’s next question was going. “Then why did you...” “Clobber Tony? Because he was suggesting that in all manors of life, even those he wouldn’t measure through experience, he was suggesting I was inferior to him, and I lost my temper. I know it was stupid, but it has been building up for a while. I am going to try and have a talk with him tomorrow and work things out. I just hope we can make a friendship.” “You will. I talked to Tony and he will talk to you. But he is probably going to be his usual self tomorrow first thing.” “I know. But let’s forget it. Besides, I am prepared if he starts.” Tim took out a piece of paper and handed it to Ziva. She took it and read it. As she did so, her expression turned from impassive to amused to vindictive humour. “Oh this will work.” NCIS Headquarters, next morning It was almost déjà vu all over again. Tim sat at his desk, going over his report for the boss and Ziva sat at her desk doing the same thing. Tony was due any minute now. Tim just wished there was some way out of it. But until something presented itself, he could only sit and wait. The elevator dinged and the doors opened and in came Tony, a cup of coffee in one hand and a small package in the other. Tim noticed it and prayed to god it wasn’t going to land on his desk. “Good morning Ziva, and the same to you Probie. How are you this morning?” “Not as cheerful but certainly as entertained,” Ziva answered. “Perfectly fine thanks Tony,” Tim answered. “Good to hear. I am in the best of moods, thank you Ziva, because Probie and I are going to be spending the day together.” Tony walked over to Tim’s desk and patted him on the back. “We are?” Tim asked. “Course we are. Some male bonding and some probing into each other’s lives is what the doctor ordered, and the doctor is expecting us at ten.” Tony explained. Ziva did her best to stifle a laugh at the double meanings coming from Tony’s mouth, while Tim just smiled and tilted his head. “Sounds good Tony. I’ll see you at the Doctor’s lab at ten...” he was cut off by an incoming email. He opened it to find a short invitation from Abbey. I’d like to talk to you in my lab when you have a moment. “...But first I have another engagement.” Tim stood up and stepped around Tony to leave. “I’ll see you there.” Tony muttered. Tim patted him on the back and went to the back lift. He arrived at Abbey’s lab a few minutes later, kaf-pow in hand. He walked into the lab to find Abbey drawing on a sketch pad. “Heya Abs, whatcha up to?” McGee asked. “We are going to have a serious conversation about you,” Abbey answered in a flat tone of voice. “What did I do?” McGee asked. “You kept things form me and the team. Shame on you!” She said, stepping up and pointing at his face before snatching the kaf-pow and taking a sip. “Are you going to let me explain?” Tim asked politely. “I’m going to let you try, but there is nothing you can say to convince me,” Abbey turned her back on him and started typing on her computer. “Yeah, that’s it Abbey, just turn your back and pout, because that is your answer to dealing with me,” Tim said. “Excuse me? Who saved your butt from being kicked out of NCIS?” Abbey demanded. “You did, and I thought that upon coming down here, I might offer to take you to dinner to say thank you, but since you are evidently going to kick up a fuss because I happened to be studying martial arts in my own time, I guess I should withdraw my offer.” There was a pause before Abbey smiled and shook her finger. “Nice try McGee, but I looked at your on-line planner. While I knew you were taking me out to dinner because you pencilled it in, I was going to decline because I refuse to eat at that restaurant.” “And how long have you been reading my online planner for?” Tim asked, his good humour now fading. “Since you set it up.” Abbey answered, feeling and looking a little ashamed. “So it is okay for you to go keeping secrets from me but not the other way around?” Tim crossed his arms and looked at her patiently. “There’s a difference!” Abbey retorted. “No, Abbey. There is no difference. NCIS does not have to know my every move. And if you want to talk about exemptions and differences between us, I’ve got a good one for you, and it involves our dating lives.” Abbey didn’t know what to say. Tim was clearly getting upset. “What... about them?” she asked, wondering where this was going. “Let me see; every time I have a new girl in my life, even if it is just briefly, you treat me like I have done something wrong to you, like I have gone and deliberately hurt your feelings.” “I do not! ” You do too. Like Halloween when you found out I had a date with a girl, you basically were rude and petulant to me.” Tim gave her a moment to recall. When it was clear she had recalled, he continued. “But when it comes to you and men you are dating, you treat me even worse. You treat me like I deserve to be shunned for whomever.” “But that is because you shun me,” Abbey tried. “I never shunned you,” Tim cut her off. “You are too much of an important friend to me to shun. But it doesn’t mean I can’t go dating. And while I do get a little jealous that someone is getting all of your attention, it doesn’t last.” Abbey looked down and remained silent. “Next thing...” Tim began. “There’s more?” “You better believe there is. You have this wonderful habit of bullying me into corners so you can have your way. You don’t ask me you just expect of me. I do my best not to expect form you unless it is case related.” “Name one time!” Abbey demanded. “Jethro the dog.” Tim said, counting one of his fingers. “That dog was innocent and you shot him.” “Yeah, because if I hadn’t he would have possibly killed me. You saw the bite marks, the scratches on my arm and as a forensic scientist, you could have measured up that he did it. But no, I shouldn’t have shot Jethro and kept my head because he was such a sweet and innocent dog. To add insult to literal injury, you land me with him.” “But I...” Abbey started. “No, Abbey. You never asked me, you just expected it. And on any other occasion when I show even the slightest sign of backing out, you threaten to kill me.” “Do not!” Abbey retorted. “’Remember McGee, that I’m one of the few people in the world that can kill you and leave no forensic evidence.’” Tim quoted. Abbey paused in her comeback. “Just so you know,” Tim continued, “Not leaving any evidence is evidence in itself, since you are one of the few people. Since I don’t know the others, that just leaves you.” “Tim... I’m,” Abbey tried. “Foorget it Abbey. I’m just clearly not a good enough friend to you. You always put Tony and even Ziva above me in anything. I’ve tried to be fair with you, in fact more than fair. But it seems that I have to live my life Abbey’s way or no way. I’ll see you later.” Tim turned and walked out. Abbey just stood on the spot, tears forming in her eyes. God, what had she done? Back upstairs, Tim walked to his desk and sat down, a look of anger and upset on his face. “You okay Tim?” Ziva asked. “I’d rather not talk about it at the moment.” Tim replied and started doing his work. Gibbs, who was sitting at his desk, didn’t say anything. Letting Tim do his thing for the present moment was better than trying to force him to open up. He simply continued to do what he needed to before the afternoons staff meeting. As ten o’clock rolled up, Tony moved over to Tim’s desk. “Tim, you ready to go?” Tony asked politely. “Sure, let’s go.” Tim said, sounding calm but not expressing it. An hour later, little progress had been made. Tim had made a lot of comments that Tony couldn’t defend his actions on, but at the same time, Tim had confessed a lot of things that he felt he had done wrong, whether or not he was at fault. But every time he confessed one of these things, Tony would laugh, clap his hands and claim a victory that was both insulting to Tim and unnecessary from Ducky’s opinion. “And I guess the last thing I feel bad for is the time Tony tried to cheer me up when I was under investigation for killing an undercover officer and I just wanted to be left well enough alone.” “You feel guilty about that Probie? Seriously? Man, you really do have an inferiority complex.” Tony replied with a laugh. “TONY!” Ducky snapped. “Right, sorry.” Tony answered, settling down. “You don’t seem sorry, nor have you seemed sorry all day.” “I agree,” Tim said. “You seem to think that me trying to be a better friend to you is amusing when I am being as honest and sincere as I can.” “You want to be friends? Please, you never seem to care when I am dying.” Tony answered. “Like that time on the ship we had to investigate. I thought I was kicking the bucket and you were cold about it.” “Tony, I said that I was sorry about that, but what did you expect, a hug?” Tim replied. “I expect a little care,” Tony answered. “Who pulled you up from the ledge of a six story drop?” Tim asked “You did, but...” “Who was helping the investigation into finding out who gave you the plague?” Tim continued. “You did, but so...” “And every time you have come close to death after that while on the job, I have always been there for you. You just don’t notice or care, so why should I continue to offer?” Tim finished. “He has a point Tony, he has shown more than once how much he cares for you as a friend,” Ducky pointed out. “Fine, so I’m bad at reading men’s emotions. But at least I don’t go gushing my emotions everywhere,” Tony finsihed. “Fine Tony,” Tim said, taking out a piece of paper. “Let’s just find out who the better man is. Here’s the deal.” He slapped the piece of paper across Tony’s chest and he took it. The showdown between Tony Dinozzo and Timothy McGee. In the training room of NCIS headquarters, Tony and Tim will spar on the mats to find out who is the best fighter between the two. The first to five wins will be the victor. The rules are no weapons, no bone breaking and leaving the mat forfeits that round. To win a fight, one person must be either pinned to the mat or call out their surrender for the fight. Whoever is the first to five then gets to dedicate a 24 hour period where the loser must do what the winner says without argument. Should he not do so, then the consequences for the person is as follows... Timothy McGee; must delete all his personal gaming files form the internet and start over again. This is all games from MMORPG to games saved to file. Tony Dinozzo: must forfeit his whole movie collection to charity. Anything that is not transferable (ie computer copy, memory chip, etc) must be deleted. At the bottom was Timothy’s signature. “Are you game?” Tim asked. Tony read it through twice. He then looked at Tim. He held a hand out to Ducky, who placed his pen in Tony’s hand. Tony signed the piece of paper and handed it back. Tim passed it to Ducky who signed it as a witness to their agreement. “Game on!” Tony growled. “Game on!”While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
